I brought my 2022 to Neighborhood Car Care - Elma after noticing a bulge in one of my tires. Since…read morethe vehicle was already there, I also authorized an oil change and left my vehicle overnight to await the inspection. After inspecting my vehicle, I was presented with an estimate of approximately $4,500 in repairs, not including the cost of replacing all four tires. The estimate didn't seem right to me, so I declined the repairs and went up to pick up my car. I watched the technicians pull my vehicle out of the garage following the oil change, paid my bill, and drove about 30 miles directly to my regular mechanic for a second opinion. I'm incredibly glad I did. After a thorough inspection, my mechanic determined that the extensive repairs recommended by Neighborhood Car Care - Elma were not needed. The only repair my vehicle actually needed was a new set of tires because of the damaged sidewall. Even more concerning, he found blowback oil from an improperly installed oil filter upon lifting the car to do an inspection when I arrived. He explained that the oil filter and O-ring had not been installed correctly during the oil change that had just been completed. He corrected the issue, and I was fortunate he caught it when he did. Left uncorrected, it could have resulted in a catastrophic engine failure. I called Neighborhood Car Care - Elma immediately and explained what my mechanic had found. They apologized and stated they would refund the cost of the oil change. Between the approximately $4,500 repair estimate (before tires) for repairs that my mechanic determined were unnecessary and an improperly installed oil filter on a routine oil change, I have no confidence in the quality of the work performed. A routine oil change should be just that--routine. Based on my experience, I believe it's better to steer clear.

The guy who called told me I could go to their location on McKinley if I wanted to get it done that day. However, there was a good bit of a wait, so I ended up going home and rebooking online for a weekday appointment. I got to my appointment about ten minutes early and when I walked in, the man at the counter asked me, "You here for an inspection?" and called me by name. I confirmed he was correct. It felt good to be expected. They took my car back immediately and were done very quickly. Their waiting area is comfortable and clean. Parking was easy. The location is convenient at the corner of Southwestern and Camp - easy in and out if you're making a right turn!

BEWARE -- I will no longer be taking my vehicle to Pep Boys…read more I brought my car to Pep Boys for what should have been a routine rear brake and rotor replacement. After leaving the store, I immediately began noticing scraping and clunking noises coming from the rear of the vehicle. After inspecting the car myself, I discovered that the brake caliper was scraping against the inside of my wheel, causing visible damage. I brought the vehicle back to Pep Boys the very next day and explained the issue to the manager. After they took my vehicle into the shop to inspect the situation I was repeatedly told that when he looked at it, "everything was fine" and that "maybe something got wedged in it." I showed him pictures I had taken on my phone clearly showing the caliper scraping against the wheel and the resulting damage. Even after seeing the pictures, the manager continued to insist that everything was fine when he looked at it and responded, "What do you want me to do about it?" When my vehicle was returned to me, the caliper had been moved back into the correct position, and the damage to my wheel had been spray-painted over. The manager refused to acknowledge any problem and made no attempt to compensate the situation. The complete lack of accountability and the way my concerns were dismissed is extremely concerning. What else will they lie about? I will never bring another vehicle to Pep Boys again.

This will be a little bit long because I just dealt with this shop for the first time ever and have…read morea lot to say about my experience with them. I work in the diesel industry so I know what makes a shop good and what makes a shop bad, and I definitely have high expectations for shops that I have to go to as a customer. The short version is that I cannot recommend them enough. In all aspects, my experience was fantastic. The long version is that I brought my truck in for some work that I've been neglecting to have done for awhile now. Before even starting the work, they did find a very big and urgent issue with my truck. I had budgeted for the work I wanted done with a little cushion because my truck is old and rusty so I wanted to be safe specifically in the event that they did find additional issues. That being said, the issue they found was much more than I was prepared for. (And yes, when Halie called to tell me about it, she did have pictures on the way to my phone so I could see it myself and confirm the issue.) Halie sent me a quote for everything I had wanted originally + the newfound work I needed, and she specifically quoted me the worst case scenario version so that way I knew what I could be getting into as opposed to her having to call me with more bad news every hour and pushing me past my budget when they were already halfway through the work which I appreciated a lot. They also did their best to do the work right while saving me money where they could, and as a result, my bill did end up coming in a few hundred less than the worst case scenario estimate which was fantastic news. I didn't get a chance to speak with the technician(s) that actually worked on my truck, but me and a mechanic friend of mine peeked at everything afterwards and it does look good! Halie, specifically, was the only one I got to speak to, and she was an absolute delight. Super friendly, on top of the whole preparing me for the worst while looking for the best ways to help me... I was very happy working with her. There was also a delay in the work that they couldn't have prevented, and Halie notified me immediately. So, all around, she's fantastic!! And, finally, I also got an oil change. I wasn't due for one yet but figured I'd get it done now while my truck was down for several days. I find that most shops, whether it's a quick-lube place or an actual repair shop, rush through oil changes. On one hand, I do understand that; they don't make money on the oil changes so it's best to get them in and out as quickly as possible. But I really value shops that pay attention to my truck. The big issue they had found and repaired was something they couldn't have missed if they were blindfolded, but they also took the time to top off my wiper fluid (that's such a small detail but I can't remember the last time I had the rest of my fluids topped off during an oil change service!) and I am about 90% sure they even lubed up my door hinges. This was incredibly long-winded but I just want to make it clear that this shop is fantastic to work with, and if you're looking for somewhere to get work done, this is definitely the place to go!!
