My family has been using dependable heating and air for close to 30years. My dad served the us military for 30years. We had the annual tuneup. When I received the invoice, I noticed that the prices had jumped up dramatically. I contacted their office and they confirmed it's because they pay higher union dues to their technicians. I mentioned to this operator, "why would you pass the union dues onto the customer then?"She said that's what they do. I later asked if we were still getting the military discount. We weren't and she added it to the invoice. But when I askedif we had been recovering the military discount she said we hadn't for the past 8+ years. I asked if our account noted that we were military and she said it was. Then I asked why did you not issue the discount if you noted that we were military family? She said she would check on that and I never heard back from her. I've emailed a few times asking if we were going to be issued the missing military discounts for the years that the year missed and she has not gotten back to us. Shame on this company for not honoring their military discounts to those who serve and for taking advantage of the elderly. read more

We had them come out today, and they were so rude to my wife. The technician Shawn called her "hun" several times and demanded to be paid even though it was a warranty claim. He threatened to charge her more if she did not pay him immediately. He refused to explain why the part broke, and would not allow us to keep the part to get it examined. The only reason they don't get a 1-star is because they didn't try to do a cash grab on fixing our HVAC system. We called them to do an assessment, which they said costed $135. Pleasantly, a guy showed up a couple days later. I don't remember his name and he wasn't super friendly, but he told us what was wrong and said that we would be hearing back from them with an official quote. Off the top of his head he thought the repairs would cost between $5000-$6000. Almost 2 months later and we haven't heard from anyone! I guess they're so busy that they don't need more customers. Excellent service! The tech who came out to my home was prompt, efficient, and knowledgeable. I'd highly recommend Dependable for diagnostic services; however, do NOT purchase parts through them. Thankfully I had already done some troubleshooting before the service tech arrived and knew the problem with my AC was likely the capacitor. The tech confirmed that the problem was indeed the capacitor. I was told that the replacement cost through Dependable was $280. After a quick online search and a phone call to Grainger I was able to locate and purchase the same capacitor that was recommended to me for $16, saving myself $264! Do your research. If the service tech recommends a replacement part, don't jump in head first and buy it an astronomically high price. In all likelihood you'll be able to find it much cheaper yourself online or through a larger distributor like Grainger. That said, Dependable has excellent service techs! read more

Contacted our Home Builder for an issue with AC not blowing air in two of our rooms at our new home and they sent Lino from Dependable Heating and Air Cool. He went upstairs peeled a piece of sticker from his ladder and put it on the tip of his finger while facing the sticker at the vent (1 inch away from vent). He said sticker is moving so air flow should be normal. I said "are you shitting me?" I asked him how can you tell me everything is normal you haven't even checked anything yet if temperature was at least same as the rest. Just plain laziness. I had to tell him to go up in the attic to see if there's any leaks or blockages in our air vents. Do not waste your time people. read more

Service tech came out to service our A/C unit. Friendly but a little lackadaisical. Took about 45 min to complete. I also told him about a problem with our thermostat controllers loosing power and continually blinking. Told me he was unable to fix it as it could be anything and that if it still works just leave it. If the digital units stop working altogether then call us. I thought it sounded a bit lazy. I moved into a new house and wanted to get the AC checked. I found these folks on a contractor rating service. Scheduled a standard checkup, the tech showed up on time and was done in 40 minutes. He gave me some advice about using cheaper filters instead of the expensive ones and changing them EVERY month, which I've come to agree with. I did sign up for the annual service contract for $150, but on further consideration I wouldn't do it again. You can "depend" on this company to be ridiculously overpriced and quick to suggest things you don't need! We own a couple of rental properties in the Vacaville area, and the outgoing tenant reported that they just started experiencing problems with the Thermostat. After trying to replace the batteries a few times, I read online that the most-likely solution was the replace the Thermostat. I called around 9:30AM and surprisingly was able to schedule an appointment the same day between 10AM and 1PM...GREAT! I didn't have my tools with me and was happy to be able to take care of the problem while at the property since we live more than an hour away. At 12:40PM, the technician Chris arrives, I tell him of my findings and that we need to replace the Thermostat and he cautions me that we might have to replace the entire unit!!!! Ya Right! I assured him we were certainly not interested in replacing the unit since everything I read pointed to a simple thermostat replacement (which I would have done myself if I had the tools). He say, "OK...if you want to start with that, fine with me." I ask him how much it will be, and as he's walking out to his truck, he tells me it will be $250 plus his $65 "Diagnostic Fee". Never mind the fact that he spent no time nor effort diagnosing anything other than my willingness to be a sucker and pay to put in an entire new unit...$250 was 5X the retail price of a mid-range thermostat available at the local hardware store. When he came back with the tiny box most surely plated in gold to justify that price...I told him to hold on a minute. I asked if he would waive the $65 diagnostic fee, and he refused. I asked him to confirm the price since I felt it was extremely high, and he pulls out some ratty old pricelist showing me that it was the cheapest option and some of the other models were $400 and $500!! I asked how much of the $250 was parts versus labor....he couldn't tell me that. Before I got irate, I decided to call my husband as a sanity check and he agreed we should just find a way to do it ourselves, because supporting such unethical business practices was just crazy on our part. I told the Tech we were not going to have him do it, and I would take care of it myself - he just looked dumb-founded. He even asked if I was sure since he was already there. As he was writing up the invoice for his "well deserved" $65 fee to grace me with his presence for about 10 minutes, he goes on to tell me that I should be sure not to get a Thermostat that is made for Heat Pumps since they can be complicated and confusing to program (he probably had to hold back addressing me as "little lady" while he tried his fear tactic). As I was signing the CC receipt, he then has the audacity to ask me if I want him to call in to see if he can get the $65 fee waived!!!! IDIOT...I just signed the receipt...HELL NO I don't want you to call now! Instead of going off on him, I simply told him "no thank you," locked the door and pulled out away from the curb - waiving at him, drove to the Depot, purchased a new "COMPLICATED" thermostat noting its compatibility with Heat Pumps, plus a set of screwdrivers needed for the job, returned home, shut the power off, re-wired the module, mounted it to the wall, filled the visible screw hole from the old module, turned the power back on, tested it to confirm it worked...PLUS programmed set times and temps for the new tenants all in about 40 minutes and for about $70...including fuel there and back! Later that day, I called the office to talk with a manager, and was connected to some rude, arrogant jerk who went on to tell me they have plenty of people willing to pay and good for me that I was able to fix it myself and he guessed I never should have called them in the first place!!!! I learned about Dependable via Solano DIRECT, full front page ads. $65.00 for A/C Tune up. First the service person tries to sell me an annual maintenance package, within 10 minutes on the job. I said I was not interested. Then he said me coolant was low and my system was over 20 years old. I asked him how low. He said he didn't know. However, it would cost me about $250, to do the initial recharge. I took him that I only run the system for about less than 10 hours per year. He did later look at the unit and said I need to replace the system. I have a bad circuit board and coil. It would be more efficient to replace the whole system at about $3-4K. The service person did nothing and charged me $130.00 for the checking the AC and Heater. And schedule for a consult for replace the whole system. Does this sounds like your experience? When they sent someone out for routine service he immediately tried to get me to commit to a long-term contract, then claimed there was a leak although the system was working. He wanted me to commit to an open-ended leak search starting at a minimum of $385 plus $65 etc. But what really raised a red flag was when I asked about the deal I was originally offered for servicing the unit he said "I can say I serviced it and you can get the rebate." That sounded wrong, so I just asked him to do what he was originally supposed to do and charge me what he was supposed to charge me. read more

Several years ago, we hired this company as a second estimate on replacing a complete HVAC system. We were very happy with their price and the quickness of installation. One year later, the coil unit they installed went out. I called them, and because the installation was still under warranty, they replaced the part free of charge. Two years later....the same part went out again. We called another company (more local to us) to inspect. They determined that not only was the part faulty, and that this model has a long history of complaints, but that the workmanship done in the attic was so poorly done that it was a hazard, and the entire system would need to be overhauled at nearly the cost of a complete new unit. I called Dependable to see if there was anything they could do. The woman on the phone was very rude and emphatic that the warranty was expired. I told her this is the second time this part has completely failed in 5 years. We had confirmation there is something wrong with the part they installed, AND the workmanship, and shouldn't they at least give us a credit toward repair, or actually replace the part, knowing now that they replaced the broken unit with another faulty part? She said no, they would not. I indicated to her that they had just earned a bad review if they could not stand by their products and service. I have now had a second opinion by another company, which not only concluded that the part itself is still under warranty and could be replaced for only the cost of labor (still several thousand dollars), but that the workmanship done by Dependable was indeed shoddy and basically a complete hack job, now costing us more money to remedy. read more

I should have looked at Yelp first. However, I went with this company because they were the installing company of the original AC system. My AC is not working. It was obvious on my AC system, something burned out. I contacted Dependable and spoke with Amanda, who was not the nicest person, when I made the appointment and could explain how I could decrease the 5 hour window she gave me. That was clue #1, this was not the company. I asked how much does it cost to install and replace the thermostat. Amanda said I HAD to pay $65 for diagnostic, because they would need to figure out why it burned out. Fine! This guy/ technician took 90 seconds to tell me it's the thermostat, it burned out... I said that and pointed it out to him! He put his "jumper cable" on it and said yeah it starts when I override the system. Next... He said I could pay $375 for him to replace it and install it, which include his 90 SECOND diagnostic. I asked, well how much is the actual system... He couldn't tell me. I asked well if I bought a system how much will you charge to install? He said another $50 for him to come back out and $80 to install it. RIDICULOUS!!! So, I said then its safe to say your charging $270 for a non-programmable AC thermostat. Mine is currently programmable and one of those are $69 at Home Depot. The non-programmable is $41, which is the most expensive one. I call Amanda back, to inform her they did not tell me anything new, and could they charge a cheaper rate, she pleasantly responded "no, you can decline the service and go with someone else." Thank you for your unpleasant customer service and price gauging. NO ONE should utilize Dependable Heating and Air. My husband wants our money back for the so called diagnostic, he was at work... Dependable Air is not so dependable. We purchased a new furnace/AC unit from Dependable just over 3 years ago. The AC stopped working. Since Dependable is not opened on weekends and the daily temperatures are now over 100, we called another company. They advised the unit is still under warranty. We spent the weekend without air. When we called Dependable on Monday, it would not be until Wednesday until they could come out. CAUTION - They do not have the resources to assist you when you really need it! We have a disabled family member at home and having controlled temperatures is important. They also quoted me the unit was under warranty for 4 years which does not line up with the paperwork which states 5 years for parts, 10 if you submit timely registration with the manufacturer. CAUTION! If I were purchasing again, I would check if the company is available on weekends and what their average response time. Again, Dependable is not so dependable after all. read more

I had a 25 yo system and the fan motor was going out. I got 3 quotes and Dependable was the most competitive. They did not try and sell me a system that was too large for my condo and explained everything in detail. They were even able to add a crew to come in the next morning so I did not have to wait through the Labor day weekend. The crew was on time and did a great job.I could have fixed this system myself, but why! I had to replace a AC unit in my other house 2 years ago and thought I was saving money by repairing it. The new system worked twice as well and cut my bill in half. Same here. I know AC systems are expensive and cash is tight but I have learned that if your system is old get it out of there! I had service for an ignitor replacement. Service call $60 Service man very professional. When he was replacing the ignitor asked him the cost he said $306 I about died on the spot. He was already putting it in. Total bill was $366, I should of looks at yelp first. After looking up prices on line can replace the part for under $40. I now have an ignitor with no heat coming out.
