I called this company, and they sent a technician out the same day. Within just a few minutes of arriving, I was told that my system was old and needed to be replaced. Today, I received a bill for a "service call" that was never disclosed, discussed, or authorized when I called for assistance. At no point was I informed there would be a charge just to evaluate the system. I had several other HVAC companies come out and provide replacement estimates at no cost. Because of the unexpected and undisclosed service charge, I will not be using this company for service or replacement work in the future. read more

We had issues with our air conditioner and called Blake's HVAC for service. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. The technician, who appeared to be a new hired, arrived about an hour later than the scheduled service window. He replaced the capacitor (a part that costs roughly $30) and also recommended replacing another component that he said was nearing the end of its lifespan, even though it was not causing any issues at the time. We were billed approximately $220, which we paid. However, after the repair, our AC was still blowing warm air. Instead of feeling like the problem had been diagnosed and resolved, it seemed as though the technician was more focused on selling additional repairs than fixing the actual issue. When we contacted the office to explain that the AC was still not working, we were told they could send another technician--but we would have to pay another $97 service call fee, in addition to the cost of any further repairs. After I explained that the original visit had not resolved the problem, I was told that only the owner could approve waiving the additional service fee. Two days later, we still had not heard back from the owner. That lack of follow-up reflects poorly on the company's customer service and professionalism. Based on our experience, we will not use Blake's HVAC again and cannot recommend them. There are many reputable, honest, and professional HVAC companies serving Davis, West Sacramento, Winters, and Dixon. It's disappointing when a successful business appears to lose sight of the importance of customer service and standing behind its work. read more

I called this company and was told they needed a credit card number before they would even schedule someone to come out and look at my AC. Not a single other HVAC company I contacted required that. I wasn't comfortable giving my credit card information just to make an appointment, so I took my business elsewhere. Based on that experience, I would not recommend this company. Blake's was fantastic. I had a loud HVAC and two other companies told me I'd need to move the furnace, redo the gas and freon lines, replace existing ducts, etc. One quoted $3400 (Rendon) and the other $6500 (Rey's) for all this unnecessary work, trying to rip me off. Blake's was honest and told me it they only had to cut a new return vent intake and run a duct to it, $1125. It's much quieter now. Very trustworthy company. read more

I did a lot of research before settling on a HVAC company to install a whole new system in my 1927 home. These houses are old and have a lot of uncommon issues so a professional service was required. I really was skeptical and asked lot of questions. Blakes Heating And Air went above and beyond to educate me on the system and the quality of the system. I was very pleased that I went with them, when they came to my house there was a team of approximately 6 to 8 guys! They did such a great job. I can't imagine going with anybody else! Others were only going to have two people do all the work!! These guys were so professional and so clean, I absolutely would highly recommend! Unlike the rest, Blake was not trying to sell us on things we did not need or convince us to get rid of our previous ducting system. Instead, they worked with our existing ducting (the other companies did not), and they recommended a new AC and furnace that fit our exact needs. My allergies haver been awful, mostly INSIDE my house, so I had Blake's clean the ducting which had not been cleaned in at least 30 years. Amazing service!! Our 25 year old furnace went out the week before the holidays. I called on Tuesday morning, and had a tech out that day. The technician was incredibly knowledgeable and talked through the issues and the possible repairs, as well as pricing for replacing the furnace. We received a bid for our options of repair or replace the next day. Given the informed walk through of the unit with the technician we were able to decide that day. THUMBS (WAY) DOWN: BLAKE's HVAC Used to use their work a lot, to support local business. Unfortunately, their practices now are too subpar now to be trusted with something as important as HVAC- in short, they install/use suboptimal equipment, which gets them a lot of site visit charges but is frustrating as heck for the customer. Example: they replaced a 'faulty' HVAC thermostat w/ a new one (5-yr warranty) in late 2020 at $193 total cost. Less than 4 yrs later, the new thermostat doesn't work (Blake is asking for another $100 to 'site visit' and more $$ to fix this problem/create new ones) while the one they replaced just needed batteries and is now working. Better yet- the owner and a secretary in the office laughed off the whole thing: "it worked for 4 years, what's your problem?" It didn't bother them that instead of putting batteries into an existing thermostat that worked, their tech charged $193 to put in a new thermostat that stopped working about 1yr short of warranty. That tells me that this wasn't just one tech; it's the whole business model. read more

I am an anxious person when we have people in our house. That being said, I thought that Blakes provided stellar service. We had our entire system replaced. 1979 was a good year, but having an A/C that age meant that we didn't have an efficient or well controlled unit. Blake's came out, gave us an estimate, included everything we asked for and made an appointment to return. It was a day long process, but I'm so happy with the results! The system, the filtration and adjustability of airflow all are amazing. I want to mention the two technicians that installed what turned out to be a monster system were amazing. My dogs, even the Chihuahua, loved them. Every time one of them passed my beagle or the super pug, they patted heads or gave a quick ear scratch. The dogs were at ease with in minutes, and so was I! I had a brief conversation with the guy who had a 2 pound Chi. This was hands down the least stressful service I have ever been through. These guys, I wish I had written down their names, were fast, professional, neat and tidy, and very nice. I felt so much more comfortable with them, especially watching them interact with my dogs, then I have been in a long time. My wife and I recently bought a home where the home inspector found the heat was not working so our realtor suggested we have the seller pay Blake's to fix it due to their good reputation and customer service. We agreed and Blake's completed the work (costing the seller over $2500). After moving in, we found the house to be frigid constantly and finally decided to call Blake's to re-inspect their work in case something wasn't fixed correctly. Two people came, spent less than 5 minutes in the attic, and told me the heating unit was working fine but I needed to install a dual-zone system if I wanted proper heat downstairs. Later, I get a bill for $95 dollars for this inspection. I complained saying no one told me about the charge and that this was just to re-inspect the work that had been done only weeks ago. Blake's customer service rudely suggested it was ridiculous to re-inspect work (hilarious considering what has since happened) that was just completed but took off the charge because I wasn't forewarned. Here's where it gets interesting: We contacted another company (Coaches HVAC, would definitely recommend them over Blake's) to give us a competing quote for Blake's dual-zone bid and within 5 minutes the technician says that even though he wasn't here to diagnose any issues, he found major problems with the heating unit in that the burners were not igniting all the way and the system was short cycling (and showed me videos). Further investigation by this company revealed a crack in the heat exchanger and carbon monoxide levels at 20ppm coming out of the vent and so he shut down the heating unit entirely (and showed me pictures of this). A little confused and annoyed, I called Blake's about this issue and they stated that if they missed these issues they'd "take care of me" but threatened that if they did not find anything wrong, they'd charge me for the service. Well, guess what happened, they said nothing was wrong with the heater, actually turned it back on, and said they'd charge me for coming out. Confused by the discrepancy between these two companies' accounts and not knowing who to trust, I had PG&E (a neutral party suggested by Blake's) inspect the unit the same day the Blake's technician came out and they said that sure enough, the heater was broken and short cycling (and that I needed a licensed contractor to fix it). PG&E technician says they cannot tell if the heat exchanger is cracked as they don't inspect that. Once again, much more pissed now, I called Blake's asking for an explanation of how the original technician repairing the unit, and then 2 subsequent technicians inspecting the unit were unable to find issues found by both Coaches' technician and the PG&E technician. I was informed that technicians have a specific list of things to check and that unless they were looking for it, there is no way to know about them (and that unless I specifically instructed them to look for a certain problem, they cannot say anything is/isn't working). According to Blake's, my heat exchanger isn't cracked and the heating unit is working fine. I am not an HVAC specialist, I have no idea what's working or not working. I can only trust the companies to tell me the truth. The simple fact is that PG&E's neutral technician echoed exactly what Coaches' technician said and contradicted what Blake's has repeatedly told me. I've since decided to get this fixed through my home warranty and Coaches HVAC (costing me over $1600 out of pocket, in addition to Blake's service fees which have done absolutely nothing to fix my broken heater) so I no longer have to deal with Blake's. The only thing I have to say is thank god I wasn't the one who paid the original $2500 to have my heater "fixed." TL;DR Company A (Blake's) supposedly fixes my heater. Company A inspects heater saying it's working fine. Company B (Coaches) says heater is short-cycling and heat exchanger is cracked (not working). Company A re-inspects heater and says it's working fine. PG&E says heater is short-cycling and not working (what Company B said). Company A takes no responsibility for any of this. Stay away from Company A. read more

Initial review: We called Blake's to make an appointment, and were told that a technician would arrive between 2-5pm today. They seemed like a great family company and were located right by us in Davis. We called again to specifically ask that they give us a call when they were on their way (given we work full-time so a heads up would be great). At 10am, we get a call saying that the technician had arrived. What? Their response was that they had no idea who gave us the 2-5pm time window. Apparently we are on a long waiting list and they don't know when they could get to us. Follow-up review: We got a call the same afternoon that they were coming by. Our technician was incredibly professional. He did a few checks, which needed a follow-up diagnosis. He was patient with our dog, too. They fixed the AC, but trashed my house. 4 men came out to fix the AC and tracked dirt throughout my house. They left screws and pieces of insulation everywhere. I'm glad I don't have small children or pets because these men were careless! They used my bathroom without permission and left dirt everywhere. Called Blake's this morning at 8:02 am, and told them about my furnace issues. I was told that someone would be out this afternoon and would call me in advance, since I was at work and live about 10 miles away. I received a call from John G., my service technician, and I told him I'd be there in 15 minutes. He beat me to the house, and he went right to work. Within 5-minutes he identified that it was a bad blower motor bearings, and and axle wheel movement of 1/4". I furrowed my brow and nodded my head like I totally understood...but really didn't have a clue. John was so pleasant and professional and I trusted the reviews about Blake's, I gave him the thumbs up to get it fixed and left him to do the job. About an hour later, I keep hearing the fan and heater clicking on and off...which to me, was a good thing. And then I heard singing coming through the duct work. I strained to hear what he was singing, afraid that it would be "I'm in the Money" or "I'm so Paid", but couldn't quite figure it out. John came down the stairs, and said he'd gather the paperwork, and I awaited his return and my fate. I was pleasantly surprised that it was very reasonable!! And I got a song thrown in for free.
