Stopped for dinner tonite around 5. Ordered T-bone dinner... they were out of T-bones. Wanted nachos, they ran out of nacho meat, wanted baked macaroni and cheese, out of that too and out of French dressing. Coffee was very old and barely Luke warm. Could hear our poor waitress telling each table around us what items they were out of, with everyone very frustrated. Horrible experience last couple visits. This last one is the reason I will never return. Husband ordered the Lumber Jack slam and what the sent to our table was a complete joke. You used to get a good portion for your money and now it's the size for a toddler (literally). We have came here forever. It's our favorite late night spot to eat, my boyfriend and I. We have had some skeptical times there and some weird encounters but we never really let that change our feelings for this restaurant, however, tonight changed everything. The unprofessionalism, the unconsideration, the entirety of the atmosphere of this place is horrendous. My husband and I were at Denny's on Tittabawassee Rd, in Saginaw, Michigan. Our waiter was Jose. We were so totally impressed with him. We never saw anyone work as hard as Jose did. He was at the cash register, taking customers money, giving people their food, cleaning tables he was just running and taking care of everyone. He the best waiter I've ever seen at a restaurant. We asked him if he was getting paid for working 5 jobs at one time. We told him his boss is so lucky to have an employee like Jose! He is a very nice young man. Dresses well and very polite. my husband and I are 82 and 72. we have gone to this Denny's for the 55+ breakfast on occasion. I will. have a couple of sips of my husband's coffee because I don't want to drink a whole one by myself. Today we were told by a rude waitress that the rule is no sharing coffee. I ordered curbside today, just a breakfast deal and a couple pancakes, and I called when I got there and the lady said she needed to look for it... 20 minutes later I still haven't gotten my food so I called again and they wouldn't pick up. Finally got through to them and the same woman answered and said she would tell them I was waiting for it. No apology or explanation. Had two bad experiences here, refuse to stick around for a third. First experience that went bad, ordered nachos for a meal, asked not to have onions on it as I have allergies. They send it out and I started eating, I noticed I wasn't feeling well and realized that they had put onions on my food anyways. They tell me, manager included after I specifically asked to speak to him, that it is because of the mix they use. And they still made me pay for the nachos even though I ended up sick. Second experience was years later and ended up with BAD sodas, even my son wouldn't drink them. They dishes were filthy, the hash browns were grey, and almost soggy. Sunday evening (8/22/21) experience was very good, considering that they were dealing with short staff, and had a sign so stating on the door. We were seated right away by the cook, and there were only two servers. Nichole was prompt, got our order in quickly & it came within a reasonable time and was hot & good.  She was having to deal with several tables, including a real jerk on a power trip in the booth next to ours. He was showing off for his family by being unreasonable & demanding -- sent his meal back and berated her because "it didn't look like the picture in the menu," not because it was otherwise wrong. I've heard several locals complaining about the look of this place, but they have recently remodeled so it looks fine now. That evening I went with the new Honey Jalapeño Bacon Slam with Cheddar Cheese Hash Browns and Whole Wheat Pancakes. The jalapeño bacon was lovely but the eggs were slightly undercooked with a little of the clear albumin still rolling around. It's worth noting that I didn't get sick at all. Unfortunately the pancakes didn't fare much better, but that was my own fault for going the whole wheat route as they were very dry. Pretty good food at a decent price. Portions have gotten smaller than I remember. The decor is darker & makes the place feel more enclosed that it had in the past. I never thought the day would come, when I heralded a gasp...Denny's. But this place served a KILLER breakfast. They had a huge menu with plenty of veggie options (Amy's veggie burger on the menu, hello???), light fare, small portions for Seniors, etc. My omelette was packed with perfectly sauteed veggies- crips and bright. The hashbrowns were crispy, and topped off with a fresh squeezed juice smoothy. And the service pleasant and attentive to boot...not the typical tweeker or ol betty waitress trying to hustle you in and out. Yes, Denny's...who knew? Went in at 2am. There were MANY people waiting to be seated, but it seemed as if there were no servers, so wait times were extremely long (even though there were over 10 empty tables) Security guards were plentiful though! That doesnt give anyone a feeling that they're safe, just that they must need a lot of guards. I think Dennys needs to rethink their staffing for 3rd shift and the image they are portraying. Well, it's Denny's, but since the recent refresh of most of their restaurants, Denny's is pretty damn good. Their menu has expanded from just diner food to really fabulous salads and lighter fare, and it's pretty consistent from location to location. We've had some odd experiences at this one, including a manager yelling at kitchen staff well within earshot of diners (in my professional HR opinion, discipline by means of shaming in front of customers is not cool), but overall it's a good place to go for cheap but tasty food. read more
