Came in on January 3rd, around 2:00 pm. Waited to be seated in an empty restaurant, maybe 4-5 tables ocuppied. Waitress serving coffee, saw us. Busboy cleaning table saw us, another lady that was previously at the front, just walked back to room or bathroom, cooks just stared at us. I was staying in a hotel around the corner, so I thought I'd have Denny's for dinner. I read a previous review saying that it smelled bad inside and was that person right! Peeeyoooww. But if you can withstand the smell and order your food to go, it's the same as any Denny's out there. I ordered a Country Fried Steak w/Egg's and everything came in one box. I thought it may have been separated, but the country fried steak was stacked on top of the hashbrowns, the Egg & Toast were crunched on the other side. Came to this particular Denny's on the first day of a Baja trip before crossing the border. I haven't been to Denny's in a while, and I've only been a handful of times, but let me tell you... this meal hit the spot. Usually I'm the type of guy who prefers a mom and pop diner, but this came pretty close to tasting home cooked. The eggs were a perfect over easy, sausage tasted good, hash browns crispy and soft. And the pancakes, my goodness. They have a fantastic flavor and texture. Somehow they are so soft and ever so chewy, but a nice chew, like a perfectly baked slice of bread. I will say, the syrup was not the best quality, but it was a nice compliment. I did not try it, but my dad had that roasted jalapeño in the corner of my photo with his breakfast and he loved it. Also let me tell you about the service. Nancy was our waitress and she was quite possibly one of the best waiters/waitresses I've ever had at any diner, heck any restaurant. She was super sweet and helpful. She came around and recommended things to us, just overall great service. You could tell she has been doing this for a while and knows how to interact with customers. So thank you Nancy, and the staff at this Denny's for restoring my faith in this classic American Diner Chain. I hope to return one day. read more

Customer service absolutely sucks. The place is empty and took 15 minutes to be seated, even acknowledged for that matter though the manager continuously walked up to the booth to grab things and walk away, never we will be right with you. Just to order we waited another 15 just for the waitress to advise she can't tend to us because she has others in the back she's serving and walks away mid order, returning 5 min later to take our order. Food came out cold and tasteless. we left within 20 minutes of receiving the food, barely eating. They seen how irritated we were and then sent other waiters and the manager to check on us at the table and try to box the food for us to take it, we declined and asked for the check, in which I had to request items to be removed due to them never being brought out and then he tried to give us coupons to return. I live in Calexico and love Denny's! Their staff is friendly and service is great. It is understandable when busy service could take a little longer and yes, we have experience when service was slow BUT they had an employee called in sick and another had a personal emergency. My daughter and I go so often that they now know us. They come to our table to say hi even when they are not our server. Never had they charge me for food we did not order like it happened in Applebee's. There was one time when we ordered delivery and I got a call from the driver saying our order was not ready, and guess what? They were not serving salads due to a recall but the lady in charge of internet orders neglected to call and let us know so we could order something else. The delivery guy don't work for them yet he called to alert us of the problem and waited while they prepare our food. That speaks of the service quality from Door Dash! So for those saying Applebee's is better.... I don't agree. Denny's is the place to go! read more

Every time my boyfriend and I visited Calexico we stopped for breakfast at this restaurant. This time we left very disappointed, first the service was very, very slow. My boyfriend ordered waffles with ice cream which came to the table super cold bread or waffles. A waffle has to be fresh and hot with the oce cream seen above melting. I kindly asked the waitress to please change the waffle to a warm one and she just stared at me and said ok. (She took it to the kitchen and I guess I just put it in a pan) Once again my boyfriend asked for his waffle ... And same process ... cold bread and ice cream on top without melting. He das so polite. The food came for breaks. I made an order online, when I pulled over to eat notice order was wrong. I did not wanted to drive back since I was already on my way to Arizona so I decided to call restaurant. The transfer me to the manager, (Joel Diaz) which he explained it that he could not refund money since it was an online order but he promised he will compensate next time I was around Calexico. Disgusting place. Last time I was there found a paper sheet stuck to my burger's patty. From the start I assumed it was a frozen patty that I was eating, but it's quite disgusting to realize I was also eating paper with my overly expensive burger. Waiter merely said, "oh, sorry". Still had to pay full price for paper burger. At least McDonald's has the decency to give you a full refund or free items from their menu, or both. read more

I was on dennys restaurant today april 13, and i would say it has the worst service i had been, i got to the lobby and then they seat my party on the table and wait for about 30 mins and no one came to take any order not even the drinks, we get out of there and when to denny by the iv mall and the service was the best , the one on calexico was almost empty i understand why, and the one by the mall was full and the service was faster and there the service was great. I have been there many times. A month ago we were seated rapidly but waited 15 minutes and no server approached our table. There were 5 employees visible near the kitchen. We walked out and went to the the Denny's in El centro where we were helped right away. We came back to the Calexico Denny's today. As we were walking in I noticed 2 employees smoking cigarettes by the front door. I pointed out to them that in California it is illegal to smoke within 25 feet of the restaurant. They pointed to the ashtray near the bench they were sitting on as to justify their actions. I pointed this out to the person who welcomed me to the restaurant. My wife wanted me to be quiet because she was afraid that the employees would spit in our food before it was served. The server came right away and asked if we wanted lemon in our water . We said yes but the water she brought us had no lemon. My wife ordered a salmon plate and I ordered a club sandwich. The server asked me if I wanted french fries and I asked her what were my options. I chose onion rings. The server asked my wife if she wanted garlic bread or whole grain bread. My wife chose garlic bread. The food arrived as ordered in about 10 minutes. The salmon plate was perfect. My club sandwich was soggy on the bottom. i should have sent it back but we were in a hurry. Soggy bread is not good. I was honestly thinking about employees spitting on food before it is served. When we got the check we were charged an extra .99 for the garlic bread and another .99 for the onion rings. The server never mentioned that there would be an extra charge for these. I brought this up to the manager and he did not reverse the charges which I told him amounted to fraud.
