I have been seeing Dr. Jani for over a year now, and I find the practice very professional. Been very happy with the treatment I have received so far, I have had few (very old) replacements of silver to composite fillings and they are going strong. I was lucky Dr. Jani performed my routine cleaning on every occasion​, highly recommend this office especially after having a bad experience at another office nearby. Not only is Dr. Jani the best, this office is a dream to work with. Joe and Leslie in reception, and the entire staff, are truly amazing. Joe followed up for weeks with my last, not-so-good dentist to get my x-rays for me, and when they wouldn't cooperate due to internal suckage, he worked with my insurance to get me a new set, without any extra cost. Be forewarned, there's a long waiting list for new patients. However, if you're like I was, and haven't been to a dentist in 5 years, and are afraid all your teeth are going to fall out, then read on because I wrote you this whole long guide for getting awesome dental care: First, don't be embarrassed or scared. Odds are, I was WAY worse. The only other person I know my age who needed as many root canals as I did was raised in a developing country without access to consistent running water. OK, let's get started. INSURANCE -- Do you have dental insurance? If so, SWEET. Find 5 dentists in your coverage area. If you don't have dental, do you have health insurance? If so, go on your insurer's website to see if they have a dental option -- many insurers offer a dental plan (NOT insurance, but better than nothing) at reasonable rates. If you don't have health insurance (I've been there), try not to get hit by a bus before health care reforms take effect. Or after they take effect. Also, search for a dental plan like Aetna or Patriot. This isn't ideal, but it gives decent discounts for most services. FINDING A DENTIST -- After you have a list of 5 covered dentists, google and Yelp to find ratings. Narrow down your list to 1-2 really good-sounding dentists. Call them and see if they're taking new patients. If so, YAY ON YOU. If not, don't be discouraged -- you can do what I did to weasel your way onto the client list of an otherwise all-booked awesome dentist like Dr. Jani. 1) Find any covered dentist who IS taking new patients. Schedule an appt ASAP for a cleaning, consult and full xrays. 2) Go to your first dental appointment since the Clinton Administration and get a complete assessment of your dental health. If you have a cavity or two, or other minor issues, it's probably not worth it to shop around for a new dentist, so long as the one you picked is competent. BUT if you find out that you have more serious problems and want a better dentist to treat them: 3) Get specifics on what procedures you need, and on which teeth, by number (me and molar #18 are BFFs). The more details, the better. You can also use this info to call around and compare prices later. 4) Ask them to email you your Xrays. You may have to call several times, but be persistent -- it's worth it, and they're YOURS -- it's your right to have them. 5) Call the completely booked dentist and say, "Hi! I need a root canal on #18, 2 crowns on 18 and 19, and a whole bunch of other procedures because I have a lot of problems. Problems in my mouth. Hurting. May I schedule a consult with Dr. Jani at his earliest convenience? I can email my xrays to you immediately." (This is pretty much verbatim what I actually said.) Odds are that the dentist will be able to make time for you because you're no longer a new patient requiring xrays and cleaning and that fluoride bite tray thingy, but an EMERGENCY patient who needs a big expensive treatment, and needs it now. And after you get on the books, you become a regular patient. Congratulations! You let your dental health deteriorate to the point of needing emergency care, and now have an awesome dentist for life! This review does not relate to the practice itself, which I have heard from others is very good. When I called to make a new patient appointment, I mentioned that my husband had referred me, and it was then automatically assumed that I was on his insurance plan. I am, but not out of necessity and I did not appreciate the assumption. I contacted the practice to explain that it had upset me and I would stay with my current dentist. Admittedly, this was probably an overreaction. However, I don't think anything merits the kind of rudeness that greeted me when I checked my email for a response: "Thank you for the information and we agree we think it is best that you stay with your current dentist." read more

I called for an appointment and waited on hold for 7 minutes, then someone answered just to put me on hold and transfer me to someone else. They can put me on a cancelation list or I can schedule an apoinment 7 months from now! The over all tone was very rude, they hung up with out saying bye or thank you. This office had great reviews and I wanted to become a patient but not willing to wait 7 months for an apoinment and deal with rude service. read more

Though I enjoyed my visit with Dr. Jani In March, my experience this morning was the worst customer service I have ever had in dealing with a dental office. After I called inquiring about their billing procedures, the office manager Tom was so rude to me that he refused to keep me on as a patient, and after refusing to send me a check for my credit with the office, he then hung up on me after insulting my profession. Well after dealing with him, I would never ever return to this office, nor ever recommend anyone to either dentist (Drs. Milliron or Jani). As a health care professional myself, I was stunned that the person who treated me so poorly was the exact person in charge of their business operations. Okay, so I see Dr. Jani for all my dental work in this office and he's great no complaints at all my teeth are awesome, but the true gem in the office the reason to keep coming back is Joe. Joe works at the front desk and he is amazing, he makes you feel comfortable in the office, he knows everything about the office (from billing to exactly what the dentist was doing with that long metal object), he is also so much fun. Seriously, I have left Dr. Jani's chair and spent another half hour talking with Joe in the office about gossip magazines and whether to whiten my teeth. First time going to dentist in DC In general it was not bad at all. I didn't wait at all. However, there were two awkward things: 1.when I asked if they're in Cigna's network or not, the reply was not fully convincing. I trust they are, which I will confirm once I receive my paycheck. 2. I got my appointment a week ago because I had some severe pain which was coming and going from day to day. When I was at the dentist I didn't have any pain that day. I explained this. And he did x-rays etc. He saw the wisdom tooth which could be extracted. But no urgency he said. And he said there is not anything that could cause this pain. He said that my roots and crowns were fine. It could not be because of the wisdom tooth either (which I agree because the pain wasn't on that side). He advised that maybe I could get my teeth cleaned and use toothpaste for sensitive teeth etc and he wouldn't be surprised if the pain was because of a food getting stuck there for a while. Interesting, but I trust the dentists more than my own limited dental knowledge so until here, it is OK. When I was getting my receipt, the lady asked for my next appointment and what it is for. I said maybe he wants to extract the wisdom tooth but he said that it wasn't urgent and for the rest he said it was OK. The lady went inside to check and she said "he doesn't want to extract the wisdom tooth. He found many other things to be done before that. So next appointment if you want is for teeth cleaning and a detailed examination with detailed x-rays to see what is happening and what you need". What?!!! I asked "so what was this appointment for? Why didn't he check enough then. He tells me it was all fine and wants to book another appointment to recheck? I don't understand." She said that I went there with a specific complain instead of a general examination request and so they just focused on that and those x-rays are only for that area. How on earth would I know that they would do a simple check rather than a detailed one if I went there with a complaint? In all other dentists that I went all around the World, they check even more and in-depth when you have pain. So they couldn't find the source of pain and I need to have another appointment to go through x-rays and second examination with paying the same even more for the second time? I don't understand how this works, is this a US thing? Can someone explain it to me pls? It was not so logical to me. Other than that, they are fine. Update as of September 14: they double charged us and they haven't yet given the money back even though we called many times. They always have an excuse. The lady who is responsible for the insurance asked us to pay directly there as my husband got only one crown and we did. I so regret that because she sent the settlement to the insurance without flagging that we did pay our share. Since that day we are still waiting this to be solved. And no effort what so ever. so today I called the office around 12:30pm to get an appointment. The lady who answered did not sound to happy to hear from me and yes I heard the attitude in her voice (i had an insurance issue with my company; I can accept that.. the problem is now fixed... let's move on) She proceeded to give me a lecture on whether or not I should proceed with my dental work or should I just get a cleaning. Then she asked which doctor will be doing the work? (umm I don't know, that's why my file is there.) I told her that I would like to proceed with my dental work. She said she would leave a message for the doctor to give me a call sometime today ( I know they close early so I kind of knew I would not be getting a call back.) I think the lady who answers the phone and handles the billing should have followed up and gave me a call back with an appointment since I am a patient on file. I am now a lost customer and will no longer refer this office like I have in the past. read more

This places stresses me out. They overbook so you are left sitting in the chair forever waiting for them to get to you. When they do, they are so rushed because they are running behind that it's wham, bam, crush your lips against your teeth, stretch your mouth until it rips, fill the filling to high so my mouth doesn't close now, and thank you, see you, pay your bill and no apologies for making me sit and wait in the exam chair for 40 minutes doing nothing but waiting for the wham bam. My time is important too. I don't like having to sit around waiting, waiting, waiting, then sudden flurry of brutal treatment where they only have finish the procedure, forcing me to come back several times for one filling because he keeps running out of time and stops half way through. Start my appointment on time so I only have to come one once. My boss doesn't think my constantly being gone to do 15 minutes of dental work at a time is cool, and I really don't want to spend all the time commuting and waiting for the job to not get finished. Their billing staff may be great, and maybe even their cleaning staff is great, but any real work is painful and takes a ridiculous amount of time with numerous repeat appointments. what dentist only half does a filling?? read more

Incredibly great service. I had moved to the DC area a couple years back, but refused to change my dentist from my hometown. In fact, I'd plan that every time I went home, I would make sure to get a cleaning. But I forgot about the fact that if an emergency happened, I'd be out of luck. Fast forward to this spring, when half of my fake front tooth just popped off. It was monday...and I had a decision. Drive 8 hours home to get it fixed, or find a dentist in DC that could do the work. Yelping dentists in the area, it looked like this was a good one. So I took a chance and called. And behold, they had some room for me monday afternoon. Perfect. Came in, and the dentist was great in assisting me in my transformation from hill-billy to normal. However, once I got home, I decided that I wasn't completely satisfied. So I called back. And you know what they said? "No problem". I came back in the next day, and got it fixed. And they didn't even charge me. I thought that was pretty great for being a first time customer. I'll definitely return to this dentist. So glad I've finally found someone reliable in DC to get my dental work done. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Milliron since 1995. I hate dentists, but I have to admit, Dr. Milliron's approach is incredibly calm, comforting, and professional. He explains things, makes me laugh, is patient, and doesn't make me feel silly for asking questions. He always, always makes sure I'm comfortable when he is working on my teeth (and I have needed a lot of work). It is because of him that I go to the dentist regularly. I have recommended him to everyone. At one point we used to joke that half of my co-workers and that of my partners were seeing Dr. Milliron. He has even checked up on me during the weekend and once while he was on vacation to make sure I was okay when I had an unexpected infection. The hygienists are superb. On my last visit, one if them took the time to teach me about biology of the tooth and gums to explain sensitivity, for example. The office staff is also great to work with. They handle emergencies and last-minute requests professionally. I can't say enough about them. Over the years, I've gotten to know the whole staff and really appreciate how much they care about their patients, running an efficient and welcoming practice, and ensuring that we all walk away with a positive experience. Dr. Milliron is an amazing dentist. I procrastinate when it comes to making dentist appointments, because no matter how many times I brush my teeth, floss, or buy the next "greatest" electric toothbrush, I always have dental work to be done whenever I go in. The great customer service begins when you call to make an appointment. Joe always does the best he can to accommodate your schedule. Then when you go for your appointment you never wait more than 5 minutes to go back. Dr. Milliron is always very thorough and gentle when doing any dental work. He is honest and instead of being one of those dentist who does full oral surgery when a filling would do, he is conservative yet realistic. Then you check out and Joe reassures you that if there are any questions about your insurance, he will let you know. Instead of you having to wait for hours on hold trying to understand dental codes and what is and is not covered, their office takes of everything. I feel like bringing all my friends Dr. Milliron's office just so they can meet the great staff, much less suggest him as the best dentist ever!! read more

When my implant came loose, they got me in the next day and were able to figure out what kind of implant it was (had the work done years ago elsewhere) and how to fix it. I have been going here for 6 years and would not even consider going anywhere else. All of the staff are very helpful, very friendly, remember who I am, and go out of their way to help. The cleanings are always thorough and I never feel rushed or like they are just squeezing me in. I've had a few small emergencies (a crown cracked off once, and then I have really severe TMJ that flairs up)- and they always try to get me in right away. My TMJ has been bad and I even spoke with Dr. Milliron on the phone, right away, to get some quick suggestions for relief before coming in the very next morning. They are busy so if you have to cancel a regular check-up/cleaning, you might get bumped several weeks or even a few months. But usually I can get another spot when someone else cancels. Overall, it's a beautiful, clean office that is convenient to the Foggy Bottom metro. The customer service and care is extraordinary! I also like that they seem to retain their same staff-- low staff turnover-- and that is really nice to see. You get to know and get to see the same people which is helpful. A GREAT place. read more

Absolutely the best dentist's office I have tried in the DC area (I've been to around 3 others). Beautiful, clean office with relaxing classical music and a neat and roomy waiting area. Extremely nice staff and the best hygienist I've ever had (Masha was very knowledgable and did a thorough job). I've been here twice, a year and a half apart (I was traveling and missed a few appointment in between) and it was a great experience both times. This time was especially streamlined as they had me checked in already between the time it took me to call up to be let in the front door and the time I entered the office! If you are looking for a dentist in DC, look no further. I go to Dr. Jani of this practice and he is absolutely terrific. He takes his time, makes sure to answer all of my questions, and is very friendly. He also remembers issues we discussed in previous appointments and makes sure to follow-up on those. Everyone on the staff is professional and friendly...from the woman at the front desk (who makes sure to leave a cheerful appointment reminder message on both your work and cell line and who is forgiving if you are late) to the person who does the billing, who makes everything very clear and is extremely efficient. The office is beautifully decorated, modern, and spotless. You know the kind...with orchids, Vogue magazines, and modern art on the walls. Everything is the latest technology. Their computer system for keeping track of your dental health is unlike anything I have ever seen. The dental hygenists are all terrific. They do such a thorough job. All-in-all, I can think of not one negative thing to say about this practice. It's a quick 5 minute walk from the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. I know for sure that they take Blue Cross and Aetna, but I am sure they take other forms of insurance, as well. read more

I went to Dr. Milliron's office for the first time today and want to provide an extensive overview of my experience. MAKING AN APPOINTMENT: I called the day before my appointment. Lucky or not so lucky for me, having a dental emergency [broken tooth] may have pushed me to the front of the line. After reading the reviews on Yelp that stated 3 month waits, that is what I was prepared to hear. Thankfully that didn't happen. THE OFFICE: It is true that this office looks more like a spa than a typical dentist's office, or at least not any dentist's office I have been to in the past. The staff is very friendly, and efficient. For those who may be afraid of dentists, the atmosphere is immediately calming, right down to the soft lighting. MEETING DR. MILLIRON: Going in I knew from a previous dentist that I would need some serious dental work - root canal, crown, maybe some gum work - and I expected Dr. Milliron woud do a preliminary once over and schedule me for another appointment. To my surprise I got a same day root canal, not because it was urgent, but because he was willing to do it. It was as simple as me asking, and him saying, "Oh, I think I can move a couple things around." About an hour later I was done with the root canal. On top of that Dr. Milliron and his staff were a joy to deal with. They explained everything I needed to know, and were espeically helpful at breaking down how much my insurance would cover and how much I'd pay out of pocket. In addition, they were very clear about explaining what my options were. I could have also opted to remove my tooth, but I didn't want to deal with that. On top of all of that, they were great about giving me information on additional resources, like websites where I could get even more information about the procedures I would be having over a series of visits. THE DENTAL WORK: This was my first root canal and it was practically painless. I don't know why I got so lucky, but I did. I'm sure it had to do with the fine work Dr.Milliron and his assistant did. Each step along the way, he explained what almost every aparatus he was using was, and what he was using it for. I really feel that I have a learned a wealth about the process of conducting a root canal. Once it was over, he gave me some prescriptions for antibiotics and painkillers, but I havne't felt any pain yet. The work also looks really nice. I am still waiting to be fitted for a crown, but the temporary filling was nicely done and I don't feel self conscious about my dental work. Overall, Dr. Milliron is great and I can't wait to see him and his staff again! read more

Dr. Jani is the best, and the hygienists are great as well. The office is well-appointed and feels cozy. Never a hassle as far as billing my insurance goes (not the case with some dentists!) Also, as one reviewer mentioned, one of my pet peeves is when dentists try to upsell (braces, nightguards, etc.). I, at least, have not experienced any sense of upselling in my conversations with staff. Now, if they recommend something to me in the future, I know I'll actually need it! read more

I've been a patient with Dr. Jani for almost 2 years now. Everyone here is really friendly and goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Jani might be one of the calmest, laid back people I've ever met. He's very non-alarmist and will answer any question you need to ask him. I really like that I've never felt pushed into anything here. He even recommended against an in-office whitening and told me exactly why. I had such a wonderful experience today that I owe it to Dr. Milliron to write a review. This dentist was recommended by a friend, seconded by Yelp Reviewers, and confirmed by me -- First, the office: Clean, comfortable, welcoming. Equipment is modern and appears more up to par than my last dentist. Large viewing screens for the dentist to closely examine teeth. Even the bathroom is nice! Second, the staff: Friendly, polite, informed, pleasant to speak with; they treat you as though they have known you for years. They value opinions and care about the client. Third, Dr. Milliron: Very knowledgeable and patient to answer questions. He told me exactly what he was looking for to determine the health (and problems) of my teeth as we viewed the screen together. He told me which of my supposed "problem teeth" needed to be worked on soon and which could wait (or had no real issues). I had four problem teeth (I had just seen my previous dentist a few weeks back, who was no help and I thought may have caused the issues). Two teeth were causing me pain. Looks like I need to come in for some minor work, so I will be back soon. Looking forward to it. He also perscribed a special mouthwash for me -- to help with one type of issue I may have. His assistant Anna is very competent and pleasant to speak with. Additional pluses: The office was able to see me on such short notice. I have been going here since about 2007. I absolutely love this dentist! He is very friendly and professional, and I love that his name is Dennis (the dentist...ha ha). I trust what he says and he doesn't try to prescribe unnecessary procedures. I have always had dental phobia and this practice makes me feel relaxed and respected. The dental hygienists are also very nice. I recommend Marcella. The waiting area feels like a hotel with nice art and classical music. They are always right on time. Jose at the front desk is also super friendly. I have sent 5 or 6 friends to this practice and they all tell me they love it too. It is popular so it can be hard to get in with them for the initial appointment and if you have to reschedule they sometimes don't have anything available for a month or more. I didn't think it was possible but I actually ENJOYED my visit to the dentist today. I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled after my visit with Dr. Milliron today. I walked into the swanky office in foggy bottom. The waiting room is tastefully decorated with really eye-grabbing art pieces. The coffee table was filled with fashion magazines like Bazaar, Vogue, etc. (I love leafing through these mags all the while internally hatin' them for highlighting shoes that 1% of their readership can actually afford.) I hardly had a wait. Within 3 mins, I'm was in the reclining chair. BTW, I called a week in advance of this appt so they saw me really quickly. Dr. Milliron entered and he is the sweetest man with a gentle smile. And get this, he did the cleaning himself! This is UNHEARD of! He explained everything he was doing. He balanced the line between advice and comfort. I felt safe. My old dentists were tools who made up issues for the sake of charging more to my insurance company. This wasn't the case with Dr. Milliron. He did my cleaning all the while checking for abnormalities. He didn't push unnecessary procedures on me. He was just so sweet about the whole thing and I got the sense that he actually likes cleaning people's teeth. Who knew one could be inspired by a dentist?
