Many years ago I was a young mother living with my husband in Manhattan.
I can't say that Dr. Allendorf ever gave me bad medical advice (although allowing an infant to cry all night to train it to sleep may have been cruel and a bit much--though it did work) BUT his manner, his personality, in my opinion, was so terribly cold, arrogant, condescending and off putting that I was intimidated and was not happy.
A year later we moved to Westchester and lo and behold, I realized that doctors could actually be nice! It was years ago when the medical system in this country was still good, and I found an older pediatrician that was so kind, took so much time with you, was so warm and loving to babies that it was exactly like the doctors you see in old movies and cannot believe that they actually existed!
Then I met my new obstetrician and he was much nicer than the horrible, 'top notch' one I had, and I realized that (again: my opinion) Manhattan doctors have horrible attitudes and are too full of themselves, think too highly of themselves to have souls and be down to earth, kind and sensitive human beings.
