We love Dr Yang! We called him before I gave birth in August. He was very thorough. He went through what we need to know for the insurance process for our baby since my husband and I have different insurance coverage and the timing of our appointment for our baby after I give birth. Once I had my baby, it is Chinese tradition to stay home for a month to recover. Since I was not able to be there with my baby during the first checkup, my husband facetimed me with Dr Yang during the whole appointment. As first time parents, we have so many questions. Dr Yang would answer all my questions patiently as I go down the list. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin which is very impressive! We have been taking our daughter to see Dr. Yang since the day she was born. She is about 13 month old now. So I figured that we have seen Dr. Yang long enough to give him an objective review. We absolutely love Dr. Yang! His bedside manner is great. He is patient and well spoken. He takes the time to answer our questions and explains the procedures (vaccination, blood test, body weight/height measurement). For first-time parents, this is extremely important. He even took the time to answer our emails when our daughter had some food-related allergy once! His office can get busy at times, which is totally understandable. We always make sure to schedule our appointments during the weekdays when the office is less busy so we normally don't have problems with the wait time. His front desk receptionist (Joleen?) is excellent and friendly as well. We would totally recommend Dr. Yang for any first-time parents. Dr. Yang was highly recommended by my OB. With that awesome of a recommendation, I didn't even have to interview him, I was sold. Dr. Yang has seen my son since the day he was born, and he has yet to let me down. He is knowledgeable, patient, efficient, and best of all, my son is comfortable with him! Even if you don't know a thing about taking care of a baby, you will feel way more confident in taking care of your child after talking to him. My wife and I were a bit lazy (and a bit overwhelmed) so we didn't get around to interviewing pediatricians until she was 38 weeks pregnant. We didn't know where to look but I found Dr. Yang on ZocDoc (the OpenTable for doctors) and made an appointment. Going on a Saturday, we expected it to be crowded, as my mother in law mentioned that she heard of him and seen his ad in the Chinese newspapers multiple times, but I was a bit shocked. The waiting area consist of 2 long bench seats up against the walls and every inch was taken up, and there were kids and parents standing around. Ever since I started working I switched all my doctors, which were all in Chinatown, to midtown so that I can go see them during a lunch break. None of my doctors are ever this busy. It was a bit disconcerting for me but my wife said that its a good thing that he's busy like this. She's more familiar with doctors in Chinatown, and she knows that a good doctor will have a overwhelming amount of people waiting to see him, especially on a weekend. So even though it was super-crowded, Dr. Yang took out time to see us. We were there almost an hour early so we didn't know if he was able to see us then as my wife had to go back to see her OB. But we waited about 5 minutes and we were able to interview him. We peppered him with questions from a 3-page questionnaire that we found online in addition to all the questions I have about 'chor yuet' (its a Asian tradition for the woman to stay home for one month after giving birth) and he didn't rush us and spent the time answering every one of our questions. After the interview, we pretty much decided to pick him as our pediatrician for our unborn daughter. So it was to our surprised that she decided to come out literally the day after we interviewed him. But due to some hospital mix up, he never visited us in the hospital. The pediatrician that was called (another one that we interviewed and I don't want to name) gave us a minimal amount of advice on how to take care of our baby. Being a brand new parent, that's not comforting. My wife considered staying w/ that pediatrician because one of her friend's daughter goes to that doctor. Fortunately, I was able to convince her to go back to Dr. Yang. On the first appointment, he gave us the "head-to-toe" on how to take care of our baby, something the other pediatrician completely left out. He once again was very patient in answering all our questions, and we were really comforted by his knowledge and his encouraging words. We also had to call him during off hours several weeks later because we were worried and thought our daughter was having a fever. He was there again to instruct us and guide us (and fortunately my daughter was just gassy from being overfed). I would highly recommend Dr. Yang as a pediatrician to any soon to be parent. He was extra helpful to me as an Americanized Chinese person in helping me understand and deal with the Chinese traditions that my wife had to go through. P.S. Make an appointment on a weekday if you want to avoid the crowds. Unless you like crowds (and many crying babies), his office is not 1/2 as packed during the weekdays. read more

We decided to make Dr. Yang our pediatrician after interviewing a few practices (which included a few well known practices in Park Slope). I felt like Dr. Yang was the most down to earth. A lot of pediatricians come off as condescending - especially if you're an annoying new parent like me constantly asking questions about the littlest things like why is my baby making those weird grunting noises. He always takes the time to go over things with us in detail - like what types of food he suggests that the baby can eat and when. Too many pediatricians today use the 'group practice' mentality and hold learning sessions that are formal and not child specific and you don't get the benefit of working with a specific pediatrician. Another reason why we picked him is because he makes himself extremely assessible to his patients-a must for any parent! He gives his patients his cell phone #, which has been a life saver for me especially during those late night fevers or the random rashes that just always looks so scary to me. At all the other practices we checked out, not one of them did that. They all said that we'd have to call a number and someone would get back to us. Call me needy, but it makes me feel better to know that I can call the dr directly if anything happens. The wait room (which isn't very impressive - but hey who cares) gets a little full in the afternoons, so your best bet is to go in the mornings. read more

He is one of the few doctors I've met who really cares about his patients. Even though he is quick during visits sometimes, he will answer all your questions. The best thing about Dr. Yang is that his on-call number is his cellphone, and he ALWAYS picks up! I wanted to move to a male pediatrician since my son was going through puberty and his earlier female dr was not taking his insurance anymore. Very glad we chose Dr. Yang, very straight up guy. He relates well to my son and addresses health proactively such as diet, sport safety and STD awareness. Good with parents too, has some evening and weekend office hours, takes blue cross health plus insurance, made a new immunization card that was much clearer than the earlier Doctor, and usually fills out school and camp forms at the time of appointment. Wait times not long though we do not go at the busy times. Sometimes have to schedule multiple visits because insurance won't let him charge for two different kinds of services in one appointment, but that's life in 21st c. Dr. Eddie Yang is the type of doctor you want taking care of your precious bundle of joy. I want to provide the best of care for my baby so I've spent many hours on the Internet and asked many of my friends with children for recommendations on a good pediatrician. I've read great reviews of Dr. Yang and I wasn't disappointed. Being a first time mom, I don't have much experience in taking care of a baby so I don't know what I need to know and not really sure what I need to be asking. Dr. Yang actually takes the time to explain everything and address every little concerns I may have on every visit. Just learned today that Dr. Yang has started his own practice at 11 E. Broadway, 12th floor, 212-374-1103. It was a bit hectic as it is only his first week there and it's a weekend. However, Dr. Yang was his usual self. He did not rush us and showed genuine concern. His new staff was courteous and worked very hard to accommodate the large crowd that had amassed behind us.
