Dare I say best local cup of coffee? I stopped in today thanks to my friend, and I'm so glad did. I got a small Cappuccino and my friend got a large pour over. I'm a wannabe coffee connoisseur and my friend is a complete connoisseur. We were both surprised by the quality and boldness! Arguably the best mocha I've ever had (most of the time, I did have a weak one a few weeks ago, but I'll chalk that up to someone new behind the bar). The mocha is usually heavy and complex, but not too sweet, just the way I like it. The drink menu is small, but they are willing to customize your order based on syrup availability, house-made syrups would be a great addition. My go-to last fall was a pumpkin mocha and I'm already thinking about October. The pastries are also very good. read more

Denim Coffee is a wholesale specialty coffee roaster based in Shippensburg, Pa. About two weeks ago they opened their first retail coffee shop in downtown Carlisle in a location where many coffee shops have come and gone over the years. When I first entered the Denim Coffee retail shop, I was impressed to see that the inside looked completely different than the previous coffee shop. Gone was the slightly crowded, Friendsesque setup. In its place was a clean, simple shop that seems to be less interested in fitting a multitude of people inside and more concerned with the comfort of those who care to come by to sit and work or meet or whatever else people do in coffee shops. The furniture inside, especially the wood tables and bar, look like something that someone handcrafted. The aesthetic of "handcrafted" really fits well in a shop designed to sell locally roasted coffee. As far as the product goes, I ordered an iced latte with almond milk for myself and strawberry smoothie for my daughter. I liked the latte, although it came out really layered. The top was more almond milk, the bottom more coffee. Probably my fault for not stirring better but most places I've been take care of that for you. I thought the flavor of the coffee was really good. I was surprised to hear that the beans were roasted locally because I didn't know that was something that was happening in this area. Roasting coffee beans is something I've only come across in larger metropolitan areas. My daughter liked her smoothie, which she got without whipped cream (I like that they asked instead of just putting it on). I should've paid more attention to whether the berries used were fresh or frozen and what else the smoothie consisted of but the two of us were too busy staring out the gigantic window that Denim has overlooking the square of Carlisle. Denim offers bags of their roast for sale on the wall. It looked like they priced them at slightly over ten dollars. This is a full four dollars cheaper than the roaster I buy from in Tampa. I'll definitely be stopping by to pick up a bag to take back with me. Denim Coffee's retail store is so new that they have not yet filled out their menu. They are currently offering a bare minimum of drinks and smoothies and, aside from a few yogurt looking things in a case, appear to have no food. They do have a note that says they are currently working on things so I would anticipate over the next few weeks/months that their inventory and the products they sell will increase. I look forward to seeing how things have changed next time I come through central Pennsylvania. read more

Recently visited Denim again. My son has been experimenting with coffee/expresso and he wanted to try theirs. We've eaten here several times before but he's never had their coffee. So I took all three kids. We order beverage, the person taking our order was not very helpful with suggestions or details about what we were ordering. And we ordered one of each of the bakery items. We only really liked two of them but they all seemed to be well prepared. Our beverages were delicious and my son went back to order hot chocolate (someone at school told him that they have the best) which he enjoyed. read more

My first experience was hit and miss. The service was pretty good, and the corn cookie was a pleasant surprise (think cornbread meets sugar cookie in a romance for the ages). The roast beef sandwich was also good, save for the excessively large onions. Please dice them a bit smaller! The only item that was not quite up to par was the chai tea. It was perhaps the sweetest tea I have ever had. In fact, it was so sweet I could only drink about half of it. Overall, it is a good establishment worth a repeat visit. A few months ago I stopped here for a smoothie and a grilled cheese sandwich with a friend. I didn't think it be anything special but I was wrong. I've had smoothies here before and they are so good. Sure it's just a strawberry smoothie you could make yourself but something about it just seems so good! They have some sort of special ingredient that makes it taste extra good! Overall the best coffee (for coffee people) in Carlisle. I live here and go often. Owner is great and hires really great staff. We tend to get the slow drips, with Guatemalan being my favorite. They also have the best seat in carlisle, overlooking the square and watching the world go by. My only negative is personal preference on the chairs. I love the look, but don't find them super comfortable. I do think some folks have an expectation (thanks to Starbucks) that all coffee houses have big plush chairs that you can lounge in, which I think is a hard sell for folks who loooove the starbucks type vibe. But if you love coffee, it doesn't matter. read more

Best coffee and Cafe in Carlisle. Staff were extremely friendly. Provided two choices for drip coffee, both of them most excellent. Not usually into darker roasts but their Uganda dark roast was deep and chocolatey that crescendoed into a sly tartness on the back end. Cold brew coffee here is also excellent. They do cold brew the right way. Wonderfully mellow and smooth, with a whisper of earthy spice working diligently in the background.
