Just a quick update. Again, just after hiking Mission Peak, I decided a nice tonkatsu curry would be good to satisfy the tummy. I also picked up some karaage as a side. Well the containers seems to have been upgraded to a metal tin and the karaage in a boxed container. I think since we brought it home, the top of the sauce container for the karaage kind of melted which was quite surprising. The tonkatsu was again quite good. The curry was flavorful. Again wished there were chunks of potatoes and carrots, but it's fine. The karaage was also delicious and chunky and the dipping sauce not too spicy. What was unexpected was the menus shown at the tables at Demiya. Basically it didn't reflect what they had to serve. So you couldn't just look at it and then used the kiosk to order. They basically didn't have any of the curry udons and it was about 1/3 of the menu. Maybe it was just that day? But an update to the menu would've been nice to look at instead of having to go to the kiosk to look at what they really had. Serving time did take the same-ish amount of time but I was walking to get boba and other things so time passed by quickly. Overall, it's a good spot to get your Japanese curry fix. I love Demiya Saratoga and stopped by their Fremont location since I was in the area. I ordered my food but after 30 minutes, I did not see anyone working. The kiosk was still on and accepting orders and the online ordering was still active. A couple of delivery drivers came by and also left since no one was there. The restaurant did not have any signs it was closed and there were still unwashed pots/pans and ingredients out. Looked like someone just left mid-shift. I had to file a dispute with my bank since no one was there to give me a refund. They do not have a working website and the phone number listed shows a Palo Alto location (but didn't even work as the line was disconnected) I will be sticking to the Saratoga/SJ location from now on. I never write reviews, but this experience was terrible where I felt obligated to write one. Do better, Demiya! read more

The staff was very courteous, polite, and efficient. Order via kiosk. Self serve complimentary ice water. Chicken Katsu Curry (+fukujinzuke or Japanese pickles): deep-fried chicken cutlet served with curry and steamed rice (3/5). The chicken was breast meat, so it was a tad dry. But the curry was flavorful and rich. Tonkatsu Curry Rice (+fukujinzuke or Japanese pickles): deep-fried pork cutlet served with curry and steamed rice (4/5). Amazing Japanese curry spot conveniently located inside a 99 Ranch Food Court! I got the Tonkatsu Curry Rice. The Curry is very rich and thick, with a consistency like stew. It has both sweet and savory notes. I requested spicy level 1, which gave a warm tingle. It goes so well with rice, I couldn't stop eating it! The Tonkatsu is a fried pork cutlet with a golden, crispy exterior and tender interior. I also added Takoyaki on the side. 3 little balls of yummy goodness, filled with octopus and veggies. Drizzled with a savory sauce on top. Tonkatsu Donburi Rice is similar, but topped with egg, mushrooms, onions, green onions, and dashi sauce. The portions looked sizable but ended up being a lot of food. It is a bit pricy for lunch, $20/dish with add ons. This stall is inside a grocery store but the noise level wasn't that loud. It took a long time to get the food, so only go for lunch if you don't have any more meetings for the day. Extremely pissed and disappointed; I bought items for takeout and the contents looked right from the outside so I didn't bother opening to check the quality of the food before going home. The katsu donburi doesn't even look like katsu donburi. This is the pictures and proof of what I ordered. This was very poorly cooked and I demand a refund. The drive wasn't short either there and back. I tried calling multiple times but no one is picking up either. Very poor service as well; when the food was ready, I went to grab it and there was no one at the counter. We waited 10 minutes before deciding to just grab the food from behind the counter and notifying a different worker who was about to start his shift I think and on the way out, I see the cashier who took my order taking a smoke or something. So I'm always in search for omurice and we don't have any in the area. There's on the Oakland but I'm not out there often. First time I came to demiya, it was disappointing since they didn't make the eggs right and extremely overcooked. And the sauce was horrid because they use too much worcestershire sauce so it was so sour. Even after a year I can still remember how it tastes. Today I decided to give them another try because I saw someone's ordered came out and it looks right. After the first bite I am definitely had to do an update review, the eggs came out right and so fluffy. What really caught me off guard as a pleasant surprise is the sauce, it was very balance and savory. Delicious as hell. I love to see when restaurants improve, good job ! read more

They have dine in options in the food court with some bar chairs at the wall across from the store. You order from a kiosk next to the counter and get texted for your order when it's ready. I got the Tonkatsu curry rice and i loved how perfectly crispy the cuts were!! The curry itself was really tasty and I got Level 3 (out of 3), the spiciest and it had a little kick. (I'm good with my spice so I preferred more spicy) One downside was the pork cuts having a lot of fat content. A lot of pieces had mostly fat. Not sure if it was just the meal I got of if it's like that all the time. Would prefer more lean meat than fat or it feels pretty greasy. It's a food court restaurant inside 99Ranch Grocery Store. Service can be improved... ordering via standalone self serve tablet screen. Quite easy to do order & paid via CC. As for pickup, the two workers are always having their back turned from customers and facing cooking equipment. I suggest to them that they need a mirror or camera to view the store front so customers like me don't have to wait 5-10 minutes before picking up my to-go meal. Menu has many appetizing choices including special ones that costs about $10. Tonkatsu with curry sauce was my order. Surprisingly, very good. The crust on this pork chop is very crunchy without being heavy in batter. And the pork chop is moist & tasty! Tastes above its grade; more like restaurant food than food court food. At $15.50, it's a bargain! Of course, they can improve on some condiments like pickle cucumbers and some veggies, which are missing. It's a 4.5 stars experience. The food doesn't taste right, the service is awful by these two tall guys (maybe brothers) that acted like they didn't wanna be there always sitting down and not appreciating the customer who is ordering. I been to know not only this location but also the one up in Walnut Creek area and that was also a bad experience with undercooked food when I sent it back the cook threw it back in the fryer and then ate it. Katsu Curry: It's nice that they put the curry on the side and not mixed in with the rice. The curry was super flavorful and not too heavy or salty. The katsu was juicy and crunchy. Even though I waited about 30 mins before eating it after picking it up, it was still crunchy and fresh tasting. 2. Karaage: Super juicy and fresh. Overall, lots of parking outside. Heard there was a new location out here so had to try it with some friends recently. Glad to see I wasn't disappointed. This location is located inside Ranch 99 on the left side. This is more of like a togo location ad there is very limited seating room if its a busy day. Luckily we lucked out and were able to get some seats behind where you order. Our order took a little extra than it normally would and the dude cooking recognized that by giving us an extra helping of Chicken Katsu which we graciously accepted. Super happy demiya open in fremont, but is true that this isn't as good as the one in san jose. On one hand is expected as it is inside a ranch 99 food court, on the other hand the price isn't cheap either. They key difference I see is the katie is always a bit "darker", which mean either the oil use isn't as fresh or they over fried it. The food still tastes good. When I ask for the brown sauce for the katsu, the guy said they charge $1 extra, but he did gave it to me for free at the end. I would think katsu should come with brown sauce, even if it is a curry udon. I don't know does ranch 99 food court rent charges a lot or what, but I feel like some of these extra charges is a bit much for food court. After trying the brown sauce, I sorta get it, as it is not your run of the mill bulldog sauce, taste better and look made in house, I get it if it is extra if you want more, but at least come with a single portion. read more

I will say that I went with the expectation of it being a sit down restaurant but it's not. It's in a food hall of 99 Ranch, which isn't a problem. However, it was very self service with just two workers who often have their back turned so we would have to wait for them to turn a bit to catch their attention. Even resetting my expectations, the food was just not great. We ordered the beef shabu curry rice which didn't have much meat. Fortunately, we figured that might be the case so ordered the pork katsu on the side, but that did not taste right. It was rubbery? Potentially was frozen. We also ordered the chicken katsu curry rice which also did not taste that great. The chicken was super dry and over fried which also made us think probably frozen. I enjoyed the potato croquette because I love potato and cheese and fried food but my partner commented that it lacked salt/flavor and was more fatty tasting than anything. We weren't very hungry, hence why we shared, but these portions would definitely be individual sized in a normal meal for us. The tonkatsu was tender and juicy, able to be cut through with just a spoon! The breading was crispy and fresh, honestly a textbook tonkatsu cutlet. The curry spice level was perfect with a kick without being overpowering, and I think the overall ratio of curry to rice was good as well. Located inside Ranch 99. I've never been here but I like that they have onigis ready to order. You don't have to wait for them to make it. About $4 each. My only complaint is that instead of the classic triangle shape this is a hand roll so opening it was a challenge. They put a sticker over the "1 tab" for when you need to pull to get the removal going so the flavor sticker was blocking it. You have to peel off the sticker first and then pull the "1 tab" all the way through and then "tab 2 and 3" pull to the side. It's also wrapped completely but for some reason a few contents spilled out so be careful! Also, the label on what I ordered wasn't what was actually inside. I thought I got miso beef but when I took a bite it was actually unagi. I confirmed with the worker that there indeed was an error. It didn't bother me since I was down to try any flavor but just a warning if you have any specific allergies or picky with certain seafood. I know you can't really tell or check when it's packaged up but easier to notice when you're unraveling the wrapper. There's a counter all around their kitchen where you can sit or tables in the food court. The workers were very nice! I'd come back to try more of their food. read more

This review change form a 5 to a 1 star. The tonkatsu I had is SPOILED.... It tasted sour.... I used to love this place and love their Manchi.... I try to call ahead to see if I can get a replacement before driving 10 mins. But phone number they have don't work or mail box is full. So I went ahead a drive there and arrive to get it replace, they just toke my food and told me 5 mins. So I waited 10 and yet the replacement is not ready...... I just wasted 30 mins of my lunch time not eating lunch at all......and the price isn't cheap already. Please we don't have much curry place around already and the menchi is good too. Demiya has been (and still is) one of my favorite Japanese curry spots in the S.F. Bay Area, and I'm glad that the Fremont location opened so it's now a 15 minute drive rather than 30+. It's a little hidden in the food court of Ranch 99, but that makes it convenient to sit down for a meal and then get groceries afterwards (as they say, never shop hungry haha.) Personally, I rotate between the chicken katsu curry rice, the menchi katsu curry rice, and the vegetable curry! It's not a Kanazawa style curry - it's not as thick, and has a more complex mix of flavors (in my opinion), which means you don't get tired of it. The fried toppings have been consistently juicy, and the price is very amenable as well! Service is decently fast, and overall is a good choice when you need a quick meal out! (The onigiris are also good for a snack at home too. I've taken to getting one or two now and then to enjoy later) read more

Im so happy Demiya opened up a location in Fremont. There was no decent Japanese curry spot in Fremont, it was mostly just a sushi joint Japanese curry, I had to make it myself everytime. In the middle of busy food court inside ranch 99, you cant miss it. I've tried most things on the menu, "except for udons", (i usually get rice dishes and add my own udons to the leftover sauce), all were great. "Pay attention to your Receipt" I ordered a take out from the Kiosk and realized that Demiya Fremont charged $1 delivery fee, even it is take out. I asked the staff why I was charged $1 delivery fee when i was placing the order here and pick up in person. The young man told me it's the container fee. If the Demiya Fremont is charging for container for to-go, it should clearly labeled as "container fee", not a "delivery fee" since no delivery service is provided. I felt I was being deceived, so I told him this practice is dishonest and I would share my feedback online. He did attempt to give me $1 back with his own money, but I declined. I was super excited that demiya was opening in Fremont. I've had the one in San Jose and loved it so much. Unfortunately this location just doesn't taste the same. I'm not saying the food wasn't good but the location in San Jose was better. Located inside ranch 99 they have more of a food hall setting and your food comes out fairly quick. There's plenty of seating and other food options around in case you want to grab something else to add onto your curry dish. Overall not a bad place I think I just need to try it again. read more
