It's been a few years since my last visit to this location & the experience is just as good as I remembered. It's located across from Sleep Number and near the movie theater. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for well marinated meat & fresh food. Think of it like Korean bbq + Japanese street food. Came here to give this spot another shot and it still wasn't was good as the first time. The lettuce in the bowls was soggy and didn't seem fresh. The meat wasn't as lean either. Everytime I go to Koja Kitchen, it's bc I'm craving some Kamikaze fries, or the pictures of it pull me in. I decided to fulfill the craving and also try the umami fries, ahi tuna bowl, and signature spam musubi. Kamikaze fries: 5/5, will always recommend. Umami fries: 5/5, had pork instead of beef. Ahi tuna bowl: 4/5, sauce had a lil more wasabi taste than preferred. Signature spam musubi: 3/5. Basic, your usual musubi w extra tamago and avocado but lacking special/signature flavor. Also mine didn't have any bacon in it as described. Will always return for a waffle fry craving! The other items are okay. Plenty of parking, walk in and order at the cashier, hold onto your vibrator number until it goes off, self serve, fast food. I did try to squirt some sriracha into a small paper cup but then the whole lid blew off and it was just me and a cup's worth of Sriracha on the counter for me to clean up. Tasty snacks - check! The flavors are popping. Serving sizes are exactly what we should be eating. And living the variety offered. Wasn't expecting quite as much as there was so it was hard to choose, but I went with some spam musubi, a braised, pork taco and a braised pork bowl. Light bite dinner and lunch tomorrow. Huge fan of the spam comes with making an avocado, which was a nice surprise. I didn't read the details of the menu so it felt extra fancy. Braised pork taco was a little oily and I wish there was just a smidge more spice to it had some bites with flavor and some kind of lacking and the pork bowl was a nice size and comes with wider brown rice and the kimchi mixture. I put a couple dabs of hot sauce on it and took a few bites and for me that made it. It was good by itself too. I just needed a kick of spice tonight. I got distracted at the Sleep Number store across the street from them so by the time I went in for my order it was ready to go at their online order pick up location. I ordered two appetizers the Kamikaze Fries & Spam Musubi for myself. The Kamikaze Fries were as delicious as they looked in the pictures. I was not satisfied with the fries though since they were soggy, cold and not seasoned but it is understandable taking consideration of the long distance. If you're not into the rice patty, you can also get a normal bun. Also if you're not super hungry, you can get it taco style. They also have a few other smaller items like fries, musubis and chicken wings. This time around, the rice was kind of mushy which is a bummer, but hey it's okay. I typically get the braised pork because it's with coconut milk....drool. I had my mom try the short rib and the braised pork and she did like the braised pork more. The kim chi that comes with the bowls is more pickled tasting than spicy so it's not super spicy. From my mom who cannot handle her spicy food. This was something she could handle. We came on a Friday evening and the place is almost empty. What a difference! But we're glad we gave this place a second try because their rice bowls are delicious and really should be the star of their franchise (not the burgers). You get a choice of white or brown rice, a green salad, small amount of kimchi, and meat of your choice. It's a well balanced meal, and the portions are quite large as well. What we ordered: + Korean buffalo wings (5/5) - Unlike Korean fried chicken, these are not crispy, but they have tons of flavor, are juicy, and not too spicy at all. + Short Rib bowl with brown rice (5/5) - The short rib is so tender and has a slightly sweet flavor. CAL COMBO ITEMS I've been to the Dublin location. The one item I loved was the beef short rib whether it was The Original Koja or rice bowl. The beef short rib is meaty while absorbing the flavors. I went to the Fremont location around two years ago for pickup where I ordered a short rib bun burger, crispy chicken bowl, and Korean Buffalo wings. I liked all three dishes and planned to come to the Fremont location again. Four weeks ago I came to this Fremont location. To my surprise there was a new type of menu Cal Combo that consists of four items. As a Cal alum since it's college football season I thought the Cal Combo menu was intriguing. I decided to order Item No. 3 - Short Rib Cal Combo. For that combo I decided to get the rice bowl. The short rib was flavorful and moist. With the fried egg along with the kimchi this rice bowl a hearty dish. The Cal Fries are similar to waffle fries. The sauce on the Cal Fries has a creamy texture. The next week I came here Saturday night after Cal beat Arizona State. From the Cal Combo menu I ordered the Item No. 4 - Taco Cal Combo. I was thinking about getting pork for the taco. At the last moment I choose chicken for the taco along with a side order of soy garlic wings. Basically I made it a double chicken meal. The chicken tacos were disappointing. The chicken tasted cold. In addition the tortillas weren't warm and soft. This sounds weird, but if I had decided the pork tacos I wouldn't have ordered soy garlic wings. I've ordered from soy garlic wings at other eateries. Those soy garlic wings I've ate in the past weren't great as the sauce was too sticky and the meat was over cooked. The soy garlic wings I ate at Kojo Kitchen were probably one of the best I've had as the sauce wasn't too sticky and the meat was moist. Even though the soy garlic wings were a side order I enjoyed them better the chicken tacos. Despite that one dish I've enjoyed all the dishes I've ordered at this location in Fremont. Whether the items are from the Cal Combo or Koja section if I'm craving for a beef short rib I'll come to eat at Koja Kitchen. read more
