Ok..... If you are paying for a bagel with cream cheese or butter you are paying for them to put the cream cheese or butter ON the bagel. Also they give 1 small tub for a good size bagel. Oh you want more cream cheese?? .80 for another small tub. FYI one small tub is good for one half of a bagel... Now for the worst part. They have a "bar area" with people that obviously go there daily which is great to have regulars but O M G one lady sat there yelling at the top of her lungs to every person that walked in. Peacocking to everyone that she knows these men by first name basis. She was laughing so loud that my 10 & 11 year olds asked me to please leave they can't deal with her. so while I was preggers I became a donut whore. they were like crack. This is good and bad. we'll take the good and say that I think I am now quite a good judge on a good donut. And, if you get the EXTREME Breakfast Sandwich, they will through a delicious HASH BROWN on top of your meat, egg, and cheese. They have a decor reminiscent of a donut shop from years past. They had a lovely young woman working the counter and cash register. A chocolate donut was only 95 cents!? Where the hell can you even get a donut for that price nowadays? Walking through the door you feel like you've entered a time machine back to the 50's. The inside is reminicent of an old fashioned donut shop complete with cushioned booths and bar stools. Even the employees, and their cheerful "What can I get you, hon?" bring you back to an era when people were genuinely friendly and kind. The donuts are large and fresh - I hear they're made each morning - and almost every variety is glazed with a thick, sweet delicious covering of melt in your mouth glaze. This is what a donut should be! Every coffee, latte or cappucino I've ever had from there is perfectly brewed and flavored. I'd honestly stop in just for the coffee. The muffins were just okay, but does it really matter? I mean they didn't name themselves Demet's Muffins - It's a donut shop! I'm dying to try the breakfast sandwich that everyone is raving about. Finally made it to Demet's after about a year of meaning to... and glad I did. More than anything, I really enjoyed the homey feel of the place. It's a true neighborhood spot and was filled with local folks having their morning coffee and shooting the proverbial sh!t. Like I mentioned in my tip, it's the kind of place you'd love to be a regular at. I went with a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on an english muffin. The sausage was pretty meh, but I love that they use real eggs and the english muffin was fantastic (lightly toasted, soft and buttery). I might opt to try the sandwich with seasoned hash browns on it next time if I'm feeling more adventurous... First visit: a half dozen donuts persuaded me that yes, donuts are alive and well...somewhere on earth. And that somewhere is Demet's. Although the Saturday morning crowd was nearly all just-over-middle aged blue-collar workers, and I did get the stare-down the ENTIRE time I was there, the donuts were perfect and delicious, although my friends' iced mocha latte was more chocolate syrup than espresso and milk. The atmosphere is Dunkin Donuts a la "Time to make the donuts" era, with orange Formica counters and stools. Second visit: not 1, 2, or even 3, but FOUR POLICE CRUISERS all parked outside to fuel up for the a.m. (not responding to a crime, whew!) Same morning crowd as Saturdays, plus a couple of younger blue-collar guys too. My hot mocha latte was perfect, and the sausage, egg, and cheese on an english muffin was yummy and the egg had that crispy fresh 'just-fried' taste. Skip Dunkin's for sure, and go to Demet's. A few months as a regular have forced me to up the stars from 4 to 5. Their consistency is amazing. The two women who work here in the mornings are absolute peaches and know everyone's orders. So far the municipal worker record I've seen is 4 cruisers, 1 firetruck, and a parks dept. truck. read more

Then they DIDN'T franchise, and stayed in business for the last 30 years doing what they do perfectly. Demet's fresh donuts kick Dunkin's ass, and i'm not the only one who thinks so. They are sold out by 10am. They have an extreme breakfast sandwich that has hash browns ON it (genius). Plus they never lost the local connection or friendly service. This place is great if you want an alternative to Dunkins. I used to know the owners, a Greek family. They arrive every morning at 3-4 am to make the doughnuts and they are very fresh. I hate to admit it, but the blueberry doughnut there is delicious, haha. Also, their extreme breakfast sandwich is delicious.. It has of course, your choice of meat, egg, cheese and hash brown (which makes it extreme). The sandwich is fresh and the egg does not taste like it was blasted by a microwave. The bagels are also nice and fresh. I have not tried the coffee, but it sure keeps the Medford Police as well as State Police coming back for more! There is almost always cops there hanging out, they pretty much all know the owners and have their backs. Donna's Donuts in Tewksbury is, in my opinion, makes the best donuts I've ever had in Massachusetts. So in comparison, Demet's is only slightly better than Dunkin's (which I dislike). Haven't tried Linda's or Ohlin's, but I will go there next time. Demet's donuts were not as fresh as i would have liked (the Boston Creme had a waxy chewy texture), they were not as large as the donuts you get at Donna's (but they were the same price), and they seem to skimp on fillings (Boston Creme had a squirt of creme in it). Usually I would re-review a business to take off stars for a disappointing delayed result following a seemingly good service. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH DEMETS. As I was sitting at a booth in Demets the other day, eating my 2-3x weekly breakfast and scrolling through reviews of the place, I was shocked to see that I had given a mere THREE stars!!? Well, I am happy to report that after almost three months living nearby, Demets truly earns the highest honors of Yelpdom - the coveted 5 star review. Everyone that works there is great in their own way: the light haired girl who is usually there is SUCH a sweetheart and always gives great service. The guy thanks us EVERY time for coming in and always makes polite small-talk with us and everyone else in the place. The dark haired girl remembered our order after the first time we saw her. What I originally thought was a pre-made egg patty is not; it is a freshly cracked egg cooked in a round container, which is why it looks the same every time. The sausage is perfectly seasoned -- not too spicy, not bland at all. The bagels are SO soft. I haven't given in to the urge to try the breakfast sandwich with the hashbrown on it (I can call it "healthy" because of the egg, but add a hashbrown and I really have to admit that it ain't all that great for ya..). The iced coffee -- perfect every time. Never old, never burnt, never over- or under-flavored. I lovelovelove Demets. I walked in and noticed a bunch of older folks talking and lounging at the booths lining the walls. They seemed to regulars, which I took as a good sign. I bought 3 donuts for just under 3 bucks, a glazed, a raised sugar (the last one), and a jelly donut. The woman at the counter was friendly. The jelly donut was pretty damn good. The glazed donut was spot on and very much worth the drive. The raised sugar both looked and tasted good, and it also made me feel a little nostalgic. It's nice that are places that still buck the cookie cutter baked goods standard set by most fast food places. Next time I will order a breakfast sandwich. read more

Stopped here for coffee and breakfast. I am not a doughnut fan, and can't usually tell much difference between one bakery and another. These are cake-style doughnuts, not the style that are more delicate and best when fresh out of a fryer. I felt these were similar to Dunkin and sturdy enough to travel well, so I would recommend them if you're doing takeout. But I do care about crossants. I asked if they made their own croissants and they said yes, so I bit. I would say it was a B+ croissant which puts it in the top tier of Greater Boston croissants. It is the first croissant I've had in a long time that didn't taste like the inside of a freezer. I also had an iced latte that was acceptable. Very friendly service, it's clearly an institution where the staff know the customers, and that gives it a great vibe. There are usually cops in here too if you need one this is the place to find them! Though it is cash only, there is an ATM in the convenience store next door. read more

Typical order for me is a large coffee (great selection of flavors), as well as a sausage, egg, and cheese on a croissant. My friend just moved to a place close to a couple of donut places of some regional renown, Demets and Donuts with a Difference.. so we decided to hit them both up and see how they held up. We pulled into Demet's around 10:45 am on a Sunday, their inventory had been mostly demolished at this point. We went for a honey glaze, and a cinnamon. We were informed that they were out of innamon. Rather than offering me the information, I was forced to ask exactly what donuts were in the "Cinnamon" bin. "Those are blueberry nugget." OK, that was good, better than good, gotten. Both donuts were fresh. The honey glaze was light and pillowy, perhaps could have stood for a little more glaze but freshness matters more than sweetness and that it was. The blueberry nugget had a nice crunch to the inner ring with a good cakey interior; a good balance of flavors all around. I don't know if I'll ever encounter a donut that screams "5 stars!' but Demet's is a good place if you like donuts (which, thankfully for my waistline, I don't feel all that strongly about). read more

Upon reading the reviews we decided to check this place out. It was slightly out of the way but I was drawn by the "neighborhood" local business feel. I got a sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel and it was fresh and hot and so tasty! It's not your fast food breakfast sandwich. Been here twice in early mornings (before 8). The staff are friendly, patient (as I am trying to pick out a whole dozen and can't decide) ... the Donuts are two kinds - the traditional, and the kind that tastes almost "cake" like ... both very good. This place is truly a hidden jewel an industrialized section of Main St. My roommate and I ordered two homemade donuts, two extreme breakfast sandwiches (sausage on an english muffin), ice coffee, and a blueberry muffin. The donuts were amazing! They had much more consistency and texture than krispy kreme and DD. The donut was a lot more dense and substantial than a typical donut. The breakfast sandwich was super tasty. The hash brown topping was delightful. The blueberry muffin was also above average. The only down side is that they only accept cash and I ended up covering my roommate's meal for a total of around $17 for both of us. Demet's is a no frills little donut shop. At first glance it looks like a Dunkin knockoff. But once you eat their food you realize that Demets is insanely better. The donuts are delicious. Especially if you get them earlier/fresher. I dare you to compare a glazed donut from Demets to Dunkin. I can assure you that you will never turn back. I go to Demets for the egg sandwiches. A little pricier than Dunkin but I will gladly pay extra for real eggs and good ingredients. Demets is one of those local businesses you can feel good about supporting. Great place to get fresh coffee and donuts. I lived in Medford for about 6 years, I am sad to say I did not know about this place until the last two years living there. My first time going there I pulled in and noticed that there were about 3 Medford Police cruisers there. I wasn't sure if there was something going on or not, but I was happy to find out that the officers were all enjoying their breakfast. I now know why they were all there. They have great donuts and coffee. The donuts are all homemade, in fact if you drive past the store at night you can smell them cooking. I enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches. I noticed that the sandwiches all had real eggs on them and this made a HUGE difference. Like others I will pay more for better quality. The one downside is that it is a cash only place. wow is all I can say about this place. Their donuts and breakfast sandwiches are absolutely amazing! I have lived in the area almost 7 years and driven past this place probably a hundred times and never given it a second glance. Wanted to try a new breakfast place today and found this GEM with the help of yelpers. We each had a delicious breakfast sandwich which is made with real eggs :) We then took 6 donuts to go to try a variety. We got chocolate coconut, Boston creme, honey cake, original, blueberry and apple cider. I am a chocoholic yet liked the chocolate one the least. The Boston creme was the soft type of fluffy doughnut. The others were all the crispy on the outside and dense inside goodness. If I had to pick a favorite it would probably be the original... although they were all sooooo good! Cant go wrong checking out this place :) Enjoy!! read more

Went to Demet's Donuts on Friday 2/11 to buy a dozen donuts for the people at work. I asked for a dozen donuts, and the counterperson pointed at the overhead sign behind her without saying a word. Not knowing what that meant, I indicated that she should proceed. Before filling my order, she rang it up and pointed the POS display toward me. The total displayed was $28.20. It was 5:45 A.M. and since I did not have time to go anywhere else, I said okay, all the time thinking I could call later in the day, after the morning rush, and clear this up since this must surely be a mistake. When I called, I spoke to someone who I assume was a manager. He informed me there was no mistake. Donuts are $2.35 each no matter how many you buy, and they no longer sell donuts by the dozen. There was no signage of any kind to explain this new practice. It was left up to the poor counterperson, to explain the new pricing, and to handle any complaints. I have been going to Demet"s for many years, often on a weekly basis, until covid hit. I had planned on resuming this practice, but that is no longer the case.
