This weekend, the short girl that works here in the front (I think makes drinks), did in fact give me the worst iced coffee I've ever had from this establishment. I ordered a large iced coffee with cream and sugar and, Oh Boy, was I disappointed. I received a coffee that had absolutely no sugar and was absolutely disgusting. It tasted bland and watered down. Words cannot explain the frustration that was bestowed upon me. Not to mention, the same day, and same order, my friend ordered an iced tea with lemon and sugar and received a watered down iced tea-- Zero sugar, might I add. I've asked my girlfriends if this has happened before; they've all confidently said it has-- with the same young lady who made these disappointing drinks. We need change. The Frenchee (pictured) is one of the best deli sandwiches in the state of New York. It consists of ham, egg, and cheese on french toast that must be made in heaven. Even if you live an hour away from Deli Central, it is worth traveling to get on a weekly basis. Other than the Frenchee, this place has a wide selection of other great sandwiches like the hobo, sobo, or turbo. The menu is extensive and delicious. Easy parking, but this place is usually pretty packed. There are lots of staff on duty to take your order and the food is worth any amount of wait in line. I highly recommend this find establishment. While the food is excellent (both breakfast and lunch sandwiches), their customer service needs to improve. Maybe it's a generational thing but the kids they employ there need some lessons in how to serve the public. They need to be taught to hustle, to not be preoccupied with their cell phones and to say "Thank you" and not "No worries" or "No problem". I called with multiple orders, I asked the guy on the phone if he could split the payments to pay with 3 cards and cash. He flat out told me no that I had to put it on one card and get the money from the people ordering. Imagine a busy, modern McDonald's running on original cooking equipment. That's what this deli reminds me of. If they are even a little bit busy, most of the time I've visited I would walk into a mass of confusion from both staff behind the counter and customers. Orders would be yelled out by staff, customers would be standing around either waiting for their order or wondering if they are next to be served. Of course, this last point is hard since there's no organization in ordering, you just walk in and approach the counter and hope one of the numerous staff member makes eye contact and serves you. This brings me to my next point. There are consistently around six people manning the counter (I don't know how many people are cooking but I can guess it's around five) and it always seems like they all have the same job of taking orders, processing the orders, and bringing out the orders when done. Operations would run much smoother if they had specialized tasks and there was a method of organizing the customers (kind of like "Take A Number", something they have in a lot of delis) and orders with something more complicated than a Post-it note. Besides the confusion, the staff is very friendly and polite. Now to the reason you're visiting this place: the food. The quality of the food is very inconsistent. Some times you will get freshly cooked meats with fresh toppings almost perfectly crafted. Other times you'll get thrown together sandwiches with overcooked meats- like bacon in the morning on your Bobo. If you're lucky, especially with larger orders, they'll forget parts of your order. To prevent this it is best to call in your order because they also print out of the register the order for fulfillment. The breakfast sandwiches they are so famous for- Hobo, Bobo, Sobo, Obo, etc.- are not all that special, in fact, you can get them at any other deli serving breakfast in North Rockland if not at a better quality. It seems most of the customers patronize Deli Central for the same reason they patronize McDonald's: convenience. Whether it's due to the location being on US-9W in the heart of Stony Point with a large parking area or patrons know that every time they'll receive a quick and consistent meal, customers keep going back because it's fast and easy. There is so much potential for this deli including better food and more efficient counter service. read more
