I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.

Will edit this if merited but it's pretty hilarious at this point. They actually asked, 'where did you find us' to which I replied yelp and the gentlemen, said, "make sure you write a review." No problem! He took my name, number, email, address, and said, "I think we can get out today for you." Anyway, I got an email with a google calendar request for an appt between 12pm and 1pm today. I immediately wrote back to agree and ask when I should expect him. As I didn't hear back via email, I called around 1115am and said, are we on for that email request I received. The gentlemen on the phone, couldn't tell if it was the same person said, "I thought we said 7am tomorrow?" What? I told him, no, I got an email from someone named ____ ____, and that he said today; I also stressed the importance of today. The gentleman indicated, yes we'll get there. So, I left work to go home to wait for them (after he told me, go ahead, but the technician will call you when he's around 30 minutes out. You can probably guess by now, but I went home, no one called, made phone calls, emailed the email that I received begging for SOME kind of word about what was happening and for 2 hours I have heard nothing. You guys should really get on it. I'm now back at work just begging for a response!

Comely, indeed! The electrician was clean cut, friendly, and good! I recommend these guys.read more

The price is great for what you get in such a great location, walking distance to metro, bars, coffee shops, etc. I'm so glad I found this place, it was exactly right for what I needed. They are pleasant, organized and seem to genuinely care about the needs of their tenants. The apartments are older but well maintained, and the couple times I needed something fixed, they've done it efficiently and quickly. Also, the courtyard is nice and well maintained, and there are picnic tables around the back of the property. It's 0.70 to Courthouse metro from my building, and 1.5 miles to Georgetown. It's a fairly quiet location (despite being right off the exit), and it's less than a mile walk to bars and restaurants in Clarendon. The Italian Store, Giant and Starbucks are a couple blocks away, and Safeway (better than the Giant, which is not great) is 1 mile away. Trader Joe's & Whole Foods are also close by in Clarendon. Parking is good, and laundry for my building is in the basement and operated with a card you can upload money to easily online- no coins, thankfully. I was also very happy they allow cats and don't charge a ridiculous "pet rent." I live on the top floor, and the building/neighbors are quiet, but I've also never had any complaints if I play music or have guests over. The apts do have wood floors, and I cover the main areas with rugs, so it's less noisy. There is a nice mix of people living here -- younger/older, female/male, families/singles, etc.

I reached out via Yelp to five different plumbing companies in the NoVa area for quotes and an idea of when they could help me out. Arlington Plumbing Heating and Cooling replied to my inquiry within minutes. I received quotes from three companies and Arlington Plumbing's quote was competitive. I was sold by Arlington Plumbing's promptness to my request and their professionalism on the phone. It was 9am, and I was told I would have hot water by the end of the day. Arlington Plumbing Heating and Cooling delivered. I was given an estimate of the time they could do the work and over the course of the day I was contacted a number of times via phone that they were on track. Arlington Plumbing arrived at the agreed upon time, did the work with a professional manner, they did a great job of cleaning up, and I had hot water before my spouse arrived home from work. My spouse thought I was a hero, but it was really Arlington Plumbing Heating and Cooling that was the hero. Thank you. I will definitely use this company again when I have my next plumbing issue. Very disappointing experience, especially given their high rating…read more We signed an agreement with Blue Collar Scholars at the end of June for a new front and back fence and paid several thousand dollars toward the project. We understood that permitting could take time, particularly because our home is in a historic district, and our contract did not guarantee a completion date. My issue is not that the permit has taken time, it is how little they seem to have done during the time they could control. Before hiring them, my wife had already attempted to submit the permit application herself. It took her about two hours to put everything together, and the application was returned because an architectural drawing was required. We gave Blue Collar Scholars all of the paperwork from that attempt when we signed, so they knew exactly what was needed. Yet throughout July, we were repeatedly told they were "gathering documents" and "finalizing" the application. The architect they work with didn't come out to take measurements until August. Since coordinating their architect is within the contractor's control, we cannot understand why this wasn't done in July while they were supposedly "preparing" the permit application. It is now September 29, more than three months after signing and paying the deposit, and we have no fence and no approved permit. We've now been told there were comments on the application and that installation will take another 3-4 weeks AFTER the permit is approved. I don't blame them for DC permitting delays or historic-district requirements. I do blame them for failing to use the time efficiently and for providing vague, noncommittal updates instead of clearly communicating what was actually happening. After more than three months and several thousand dollars paid toward the project, having no fence and no approved permit is an extremely frustrating experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Blue Collar Scholars.
