The Rose Garden at Delaware Park is a "must see" in the warmer months. The array of roses are just eye-catching and beautiful to look at! You clan even get married on the rose garden stage and we actually took some photographs there with our bridal party for our wedding. The fountain in the middle is a nice touch but is wasn't working last time we visited recently. Some of the roses smell sweet and nicely fragrant. Well, it was a Beautiful day today, so I packed the doggos in the car and made the short drive to the other side of Delaware Park to the Rose Garden... so glad I did! The spring flowers were blooming, kiddos were on the playground, so lots of happy noise! I haven't taken both of my dogs here at the same time because they can be a bit of a handful when other dogs come too close, but they've been in intense training so I thought I'd give it a go... We took a long walk all around the upper park, the trees are just showing buds, the grass is green and the winter remnants are totally gone. The gardens are ready to show their stuff! There were some off leash dogs, so if that isn't ok with you, steer clear of the Rumsey/soccer field area, we had to leave a bit sooner than we wanted because of a particularly barky dog... (just so you know... some dog owners seem unaware of the leash law and that some people and dogs are fearful of their unleashed 'friendly' dogs) Around the lake, there were lots of people enjoying the day, with a good mix of folks, young and old, with and without partners, groups of friends... it was really pleasant! It's pretty. It's insta-worthy. What more can you love about it? I usually find myself checking out the Rose Garden whenever I'm in that part of Delaware Park. It's actually one of my favorite areas to walk in/explore when I'm spending some time around there, mostly because of how gorgeous the flowers get when they're in full bloom. It's definitely season-dependent. Our super chilly spring this year has only yielded a couple of purple flowers (I am not a plant expert) here and there, and nothing else. In warmer springs, I'd expect we'd see some gorgeous flowers growing by now. But, I'm sure by the summer we'll have some pretty blooms like we do every year. I've seen many weddings going on here during my visit, and it's easy to see why! There's a beautiful pergola acts as a perfect altar for couples to be married at, with reception at the Marcy Casino building after. Olmstead Parks System definitely does that right! All in all, it's probably one of the better (and more taken care-of, cough) areas in Delaware Park. There's nothing better than a pretty public garden. Enjoy it when you can! read more

I attended a June wedding. I thought this was a Rose Garden. Not a rose to be found. That was the initial disappointment. The entire site was gravel, even the path the bridal party, and bride and father walk down. Really? Guests attending with canes, walkers, and wheelchairs have a difficult time negotiating the gravel. A lawsuit waiting to happen. Now, the atrium where the ceremony is held. Birds nest, chipping paint, to say the least. Where are the people that oversee these issues? How hard would it be to clean up and paint the atrium? Remove the gravel, and pave the paths. I would NEVER approve this venue for my daughters wedding, no matter how much she had her heart set on this site. For the amount they charge to use this site, it's a shame they don't have the integrity to address these issues. Am I being too critical? Perhaps. That was my experience. read more

How can you not like roses? The rose garden is beautiful and thinking of walking though it this spring and summer and smelling the flowers is inspiring, especially on April 1st 2019 - when it's practically zero outside! I can't wait for all the roses to bloom and for spring and summer to arrive. The Delaware Park Rose Garden serves as the entrance during Shakespeare in Delaware Park too and it's a nice small public space to walk through when you're close to Hoyt Like. I enjoy walking through and then doing a jog or walk around Hoyt Lake is well (which is one mile around). It's a great little way to get some fresh air in! read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Delaware park and it's so pretty. I always enjoy a stroll through the Rose Garden to see all the different colors, varieties, and types on display. The garden is very well taken care of and maintained and they have more variety of roses than I ever knew existed. There are benches located throughout the garden so that you can sit and enjoy the view of the flowers and relax. On one end there is a large marble stage/raised area (I honestly have no idea what it is) and on the other you are close to the road and parking area. There are multiple pathways into and out of the garden and down to the rest of Delaware park. read more

It's a public garden with plenty of flowers and seating. The fountain in the middle is a romantic touch. I like going to sit and smell the roses, literally, because the scent is really pungent when all the flowers are in bloom. There are other flowers that grow here when roses aren't in season, but the garden is designed with rose bushes in mind. There's a wide variety of color variations. Pinks, yellows, reds, whites, apricots. Visitors respect the flowers. People don't pick them or damage them, so it always looks good. There's a playground for children in the vicinity, so there's the chance that you can hear them play. It's far enough away that it shouldn't bother too many people. Depending on the time of day, it's pretty quiet. read more

We stumbled upon Hoyt Lake and this rose garden after visiting the Albright-Knox art museum. It was a beautiful afternoon, and even though it was early September, there were some beautiful roses in bloom. This rose garden is just one small section of Delaware Park's 350 acres. Delaware park is the first of three parks in Buffalo created by Frederick Law Olmsted. Olmstead is known for being the father of American landscape architecture. Delaware Park serves as the focal point of the Olmsted system. The park was completed by Olmstead in 1876. This is definitely a beautiful spot to check out and explore. I want to rent a bike and explore the entire Delaware park next time I am in Buffalo. read more

Looking for that cliche flower close up? You've come to the right place! Gorgeous variety of plants along peaceful paths to stroll down with a loved one or to think some thoughts by yourself. It's located between a restaurant and playground, but it's surprisingly kept in good shape. It seems any time I'm there during a weekend there's wedding photos being taken. Cousins wedding 8/26 5pm with reception to follow. Parking seemed limited, although we were always able to find a spot within walking distance. Everywhere was beautiful, no trash in site, and glimpses of the water. Transition ran smoothly from wedding into cocktail hour, into reception and after party. There were employees everywhere, so service was really amazing here. There were bees all around the bridal party while standing, and I assume the guests as well. I'm not sure if it's usually that bad, or just the warmer days. This day was hotter than normal, I was told. read more

Such a shame that that garden is in the state it's it's since it's the entrance to Shakespeare Hill, and next to the awesome restaurant The Terrace. I go every summer to this section of the park, multiple times, and every time I am saddened by the state of the flowers. The layout is beautiful and it has such potential, but I don't know if it's not having the right gardeners or botanists on staff - but the bushes are always anemic, empty, not full, not blooming or if they are, there's very limited flowers. It doesn't look well maintained. I looked at this location for our wedding and opted for the botanical gardens because of the sad state of the flora. Another pet peeve is the hoses are never buried and there is hardly any mulch in the group to either keep in moisture or hide the tubing. It's always super dry looking soil and it does not appear well maintained. It's such a shame because it's a real focal point - it has so much potential!!! I hope they change their care plan and maintenance plan for this neglected area of the park. If not, it would do better as a zen rock garden - not much maintenance and it would be clean, polished, and classy instead of this dry, disappointing half dead garden. read more
