03/2025 my husband and I both had appointments for an eye exam and prescription. We waited over an hour before they took us back for our exam. Then in 06/25 I took my prescription to the eyeglass section and asked for my pupillary distance and the girl was extremely rude and said they do not give that out. Ordered glasses Dec. 20 my old ones were broke. I have been calling to see if the new ones are in, I called several times, I ordered them from the Milford office. I called again today Jan 15 and they are in Dover to be sent to Milford on the 17th. I asked can I come to Dover and pick them up there, they said okay. I drive to Dover go in no one greets you. I turn to right and I see an optical dept with a lady sitting at a desk with glasses on it, I sign on the sign on the podium and check mark to pick up glasses. I sat and waited while they waited on four people who came in after me. Another lady who works there came in and asked If she had taken care of Kathy, which is me, so I thought okay the original lady is gonna get me, nope. I waited for the lady who came in second to finish with her customer, I walked up to where she was sitting, she said sign in and take a seat! I said I had signed in, she said sign in and take a seat! I said I did sign in an hour ago and no one has called my name. She sternly said take a seat. I turned around and when I did she came up behind me and said what do you need? I did not know she was talking to me as she had just rudely said take a seat, I turned around and she was in my face and I said are you talking to me! I am a 66 year old woman and never ever have I disrespected anyone like that. My glasses were over a grand without exam. You need to listen to how your staff is talking to customers. Your office needs to check its self. There is a 3 to 11 rule. For every one customer that is happy they will tell three more and those three will tell three more and so on. However, for every one customer who had a bad experience they tell 11 people. Those 11 people tell 11 more people and so forth. I have been going there for over 20 years. My insurance changed. I was early for my appointment the receptionist could not bring up my info. I went to my car called they suggested they call and get confirmation my insurance is active. Mind you, I still had 10 min before my appointment I was told I had to reschedule my appointment . Why because they did not want to call . I live 45 min away. But I did notice they were very much able to accommodate a man that did not have his check book to pay his bill and no worries I will mark your account check in mail. Another man came in it was 1:00 pm he told receptionist his appointment was at 2:40 he was tired and needed to be seen. So nice he was taken care of . I'm new to dover and needed an eye doctor but I have been in glasses/contacts for 20 years. When I was a teenager I had some issues taking my contacts out at night and manage to put a few scars on my eyes because of it. Luckily, not in any spots that would compromise my vison. I was told that because I had issues in the past that they would not give me a script for monthly contacts. At first I didn't think anything of it until I saw the price difference. I told the Dr. that I was young and dumb when I had issues and understood the importance of taking care of my eyes now. I let him know could not afford daily's as they were close to $500 with a rebate; vs. $190 for monthly contacts. The Dr. said "you are more then welcome to get fitted somewhere else." This is after I paid 125 dollars for my "first visit" on top of what my insurance paid ($279). Not only did I waste a month and a half in order to get this appointment, I wasted my money. Side note: I have never had an eye doctor who personally takes out and puts in the contact for you. That was gross and uncomfortable. 100% would not recommend. read more

I should have known this place was subpar from the horrible customer service received from the inception of the process (e.g., sighing, clucking tongue when making an appointment). The office allows a 10 minute grace period. To their credit, to start, I WAS 5 minutes late to the appointment. However, what they failed to tell me during the confirmation call is 1) which door to enter... I parked, got out of my car, proceeded to the door...only to find a handwritten sign stating that the entrance is on the opposite side of the building. 2) There is a strict 10 minute window. When I arrived at the opposite side of the building, there was another handwritten sign with instructions to call before entering. I called, the phone rang FOUR TIMES before I was greeted by a lackluster voice. Once I entered, I was told I had to reschedule because they only allow a 10 minute grace period. IT WAS 10:11 a.m (after waiting an entire month for an appointment). If I had been told where to enter, to call upon arrival, and the strict 10 minute grace period -- DURING THE CONFIRMATION CALL -- the confusion and missed appointment could have been avoided. As I was writing this review, a lady next to me, returned to her vehicle, equally as annoyed. She complained that she couldn't get anyone on the phone to even allow her entry into the office. I WILL NOT reschedule at this location or any other location. I will find another optometrist to provide the services needed. This establishment, apparently, needs new management. This was my first appointment with a My Eye Doctor establishment - and was my last. In my opinion, this office has single-handedly tarnished the face of the company. read more

My family has been patients of this practice for decades. The staff is very friendly and professional. The doctors are good and knowledgeable. However, I dont think I have ever gotten out of there in less than 90 minutes! I find this to be unfair to the patients. Their time is important too. I believe this is caused by over-booking of appointments. Today, I have my 93 year old father here for his 6-month check up. We have been here 2 hours. I went here in 2015 because this was a "premier provider" with VSP, my benefit provider. The place is filthy, the service atrocious, and they didn't even "have time" to discuss glasses. After all, it was only 45 minutes until close when I was FINALLY done. Seriously?! This place is a total mill, expect to be moved from place to place like an assembly line. The best, August 2016, I call to get a copy of my prescription, they can't email, but they will "Fax". Who has Fax machines anymore? Anyway, I tell them I will pick it up. Well, it won't be ready until tomorrow? Serious? It takes 24 hours to copy something that you could Fax in 5 minutes? Mind you, the staff is SO rude on the phone, I am again dreading having to go into their disgusting facility. Walk in....after about three minutes listening to the three women behind the counter talk disparagingly about another women, who may either work there or be a customer, I am met with a very curt "YEAH?!". I tell them I am there to pick up a prescription, a woman grabs it out of the file cabinet and does not even bother to look at me as she shoves it in my direction. I have NEVER had an eye care provider not try to sell me glasses, nor give me a copy of my prescription without attempting to sell to me. I guess, that IS a positive in that you don't get the hard sell, but I cannot get over the horrific conditions of the facility, the rude personnel and just lack of "care" provided. ***UPDATE SEE BOTTOM I went to the Dover Center in December - While I was on vacation - so I didn't have to use time off from work! I saw one of the Doctors. THE POSITIVES: The assistants who do your initial eye exam (not sure of their title) ie. "Cover your eye & tell me what the letters are that you see" are always super sweet and so are the front desk associates. THE NEGATIVE: The doctor that I seen. First the lady comes in followed by an associate who doesn't even speak nor is she introduced. I have been having tearing out of my right eye for months and I explained that to the doctor - it was abnormal and I was at the point of having to keep tissues to wipe my eye constantly as it was getting worse. The Doctor insisted nothing was wrong with my eye and that perhaps she could prescribe me some eye drops for allergies but she saw nothing. Her initial look through of my eye was apart of my normal exam. After stressing to her the severity of the issue and the gradual increase in tearing AND that a bug subsequently flew in my eye possibly making it worse she made no attempts to look at my eye further and determine the cause of the issue. Is it really allergies? Is it dry eye and my eye is exerting additional tears to supplement? Or is it something else? Who knows because she made no attempts to figure it out. She came in with no pleasantries which is fine if you want to get down to business but I realized in the end her only intention was to get in and out to her next patient - they must have really tight bookings to my detriment. I did a survey after the appointment and described my grievances but of course no response.. The front desk associate apologized though - as I mentioned they're professional. TODAY: 2 months later guess whose eye issue escalated *raises hand* - MINE. Now instead of just tearing, the tearing first of all has escalated to non stop, my eye is stuck closed in the morning when I wake up and I have cases of blurred vision in the morning and blurred vision from time to time through out the day out of the one eye. I had to call the emergency line and leave a message on Sunday because of the severity when I woke up and thankfully the on call Doctor which happens to be someone different than whom I saw at the appointment called me back in 3 minutes. I was very appreciative as I didn't expect to be called back especially not that soon. It was 7:30 in the morning and as a result or that kind of professionalism I will be giving this place one more shot. I hope this proves to be fruitful. My issue is that I now have to use 2.5 hours of sick time from my job and pay another $25 co pay for something that should have been handled in December. Come on now - not fair - I was proactive - and no one tried to make it right with the survey I submitted. A simple apology would have sufficed. ***Update - Yesterday's experienced was completely different. The front desk associates and assistants who do your initial eye exam were amazing per usual. I was able to speak with the person who overseas the customer service reviews and she was understanding. She realistically has to do research to determine the root cause of my concern so without taking sides she apologized for my individual experience which I appreciated. The Dr. I saw this time also stated he didn't see anything abnormal with my eye even though my symptoms escalated (thank God) but the difference is he actually looked (again to be fair the other doctor looked but it was a routine eye exam look not a look that pertained to the issue I expressed with excessive tearing) and he addressed my concerns answering my questions and explaining some potential causes in the environment and with the work that I do all day. I left with an understanding and that was absent my previous visit. All in all I wont hold this entire place accountable for 1 - 2 ppl (I also had one other experience a while ago but ill leave that one alone). Horrible, terrible, un carrying, you are a burden on this company. These people are not customer friendly, they are never on time. You never get in and out of this place on time, you don't get seen on time. It's always an hour or more by the time you get seen from the time of your appointment. My family purchased glasses from this place, we were told our glasses have a 1 year warranty, on the glasses. With the insurance, we still pay over $300 for our glasses. Closer to almost $400 for each pair of glasses with insurance. My wife's glasses got chewed up by the dog, so I brought them in. They said, they could send in the lenses, but the frames weren't covered. We would have to pay another $300 for frames. The warranty on glasses is manufacturer defect only. Come on, this is utterly disgusting. Also, it would take 2 weeks to get them back because they have to send them out. Who the hell buys glasses with a manufactures warranty only. Lense crafters doesn't care what happens to your glasses, they just replace them. I'm just putting my 2 cents worth in this, but as the people working there just don't care about you. I won't recommend them to anyone. Rude people, long waits. Deception in sales and warranty. Who can afford all this on top of overpriced services and products. read more

I have been going to DE eye Care's Governors Ave office for the past 10 years. I have received nothing but excellent service. I must admit that the process is long because I have my eyes dilated. However, the staff/doctors have been nothing but courteous. Once, I visited their office on Rudnick Lane and the service was subpar. It was a one time mistake that I will not repeat. We as the patients come first and all work and help pertains to that: The paperwork I brought in as a New Patient was appreciated and gone over with me by the techs/all professionals. Any effort I made to print up my allergies and prescription meds with all physicians associated with that information was also assuredly appreciated. This I reassure the staff, here, is a RARE occurrence elsewhere. This is a terrible eye care facility. I've had problems with my eyes my whole life and I am very sensitive to changes in my eyes and my prescription. This is the first time going anywhere that I can say I do not think my prescription is correct. However, when I went to get them rechecked I was treated like an idiot who should just suck it up. I had to prove for over 10 minutes that I could not see as well with my new glasses. The doctor I saw also had terrible bedside manner and practically stuck a lense in my eye. My glasses were also well over $400 which is insane pricing for the area. I would not recommend this place. My family and I will be looking for a new eye doctor. read more

After my eye exam I proceeded to purchase glasses from their provider (big mistake). The glasses were ordered in May, I received miss-information from the person I ordered the glasses from to begin with & the confusion gets worse....I did not receive the glasses until late June. Then I started receiving incorrect payment statements (3 to be exact) each time I called they said it was a computer error, their records showed "0" balance. After the third mis-statement, I asked that they send me a statement indicating "0" balance and they told me to call their statement office.....poor customer service & follow thru. As you can see this is the end of August and my first review was in mid June. Hopefully my zero balance statement will reach me by September!!! read more

The quality of customer service at this office has deteriorated greatly over the last two years. Plan to wait at least 40 minutes past your appointment time on most visits. I was told by the staff this is due to over scheduling and under staffing. I've experienced ordering problems, billing problems, poor customer service, etc over that last two years. I had a thick cataract in one eye and a smaller one in the other. Dr. Markowitz removed both, and my vision is now perfect in each eye without glasses, both at middle and far distances. It's a life-changing miracle! He and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable at all times, and they easily coped with my anxiety about the operation. In reality, the procedure is wholly painless and not unpleasant at all; I should have had it years ago. I ordered glasses Jan 10 2017 and was told the glasses would be ready in two weeks. I waited two weeks then called and found out the glasses had to come from overseas. The sales person stated my glasses should arrive in three more day. I waited another week and was told they are not in yet. I drove to Governors Ave and was told my glasses were on back order. If I could give this place negative stars I would. This is the Governor's Ave location. First Markowitz sold this business a year and 1/2 ago, his name is still on the building, I actually made an appointment to see this doctor, surprise, not him. I just wanted to have an old prescription read and put into new frames with too strong of a prescription from a full exam end of November. I just need light reading/computer glasses I was forced to get another exam, the tech was a young girl who had no idea what she was doing, kept thinking I was there for distance, I finally asked her to write on top of her page reading glasses. I was there for over 3 1/2 hours while this child was playing Doctor. Shalawar storms in and I said I just need prescription from this pair into these new frames, that's it, he tells me I must submit to a slit lamp exam, I say no, I'm very light sensitive, he says if I don't I don't get my prescription, they will escort me out and charge my insurance and then I will have to pay for another exam out of pocket, round we go for 10 minutes, and I should have walked out and just called my insurance company to file fraud against him, but I needed my reading glasses, the frames in the old pair were broken. This man burned both of my corneas by taking a long time and not knowing what he was doing. He also stated that I had cataracts in both eyes, I said your lying, I just had an exam, I don't have cataracts, he tells me I need to make an appointment to get them out. I said your lying, I know for a fact I don't have cataracts, is this what you do pretend people need cataract surgery. My eyes were burning and tearing while he was still in the room, I told him, OMG what did you do, he says, oh, you'll be fine, I handed my new frames to optic department, and my eyes were now blurry, I got myself home and a short time later I called and was very upset as my eyes were now puffy, red, tearing, they hurt very bad and felt like sand paper had been rubbed on them. Shalwawa refused to take my calls. I went back to this place the next morning, cancelled my prescription and told them to give me back my frames, the Office Manager is a nasty piece of work and held onto my frames for 3 weeks before she mailed the UPS only after I threatened to file theft charges against her. Do you think you can harm a person and not be held accountable for it. Do you think you can lie to your patients and make them have surgeries when they don't need it. I came in just needing light reading glasses, and I came out with an incorrect prescription, burned corneas, blurry vision, and my eyes still hurt. I am having them checked by a specialist, and then I am going to file charges against Shalawa with the Board of Medical Examiners. read more

Absolutely the worst place to go! My fiancé and I waited 45 minutes, 35 Minutes past our appointment. She went in there to have her eyes dilated and each nurse picked up her file and put it down because it wasn't the usual exam. We were the last people in the waiting room before the were forced to call us and once they did it took about 5 minutes to have her eyes dilated, to then sit in another waiting room for 25 minutes. They nurse who took her back complained about how she was stuck doing this instead of someone else and she didn't have time for it. Very very unprofessional environment.
