The best smoked barbecue me and my boyfriend ever had. Excellent home cooked food that's made to order. We split a full rack with a baked potato (def add the cheese) and baked beans. The meat was so tender and fall off the bone. The smokey flavor was not too overpowering and you could honestly eat it all without sauce. The bbq sauce was just too yummy to not have in the equation. The beans slapped and the baked potato was excellent. They just moved to this new location so they had a limited menu and we couldn't try the fried Mac n cheese (). We met both of the dedicated owners and they were so kind. This new spot has limited indoor seating and some outside seating. No frills, just straight ol' good BBQ. The Sampler Dinner was a perfect choice and for the 2 of us was enough food to share. The pulled pork was absolutely the star of the show. In photos it looks kind of dry, but in person it was way more moist and wet. It didn't even need any sauce which is a great mark of fantastic pulled pork. The ribs were great as well. Tender and flavorful. I think they ran out of chicken and substituted it with what I believe was pork belly and that was also really great. The layer of fat was perfect to balance out the lean meat. The meat could have been more moist however, it was a tad dry. The sausage was just alright. And the brisket was definitely the most disappointing cut of meat. I will give Delauders the benefit of the doubt since we did arrive close to closing. The cut itself had little to no fat and so it was not just a lean bite but also pretty dry. I am glad we got off the main strip in Gatlinburg to head to Delauder's for dinner. I always seek out BBQ since we don't have a lot of great BBQ in SoCal and Delauders was just what I needed. We shared a sampler plate with brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and ribs. The ribs were very tender, fell right off the bone! Pulled pork was juicy and the bbq sauce on the table was not too sweet, perfect addition. The brisket could have been a little more moist, but it could be that we were there an hour before close. This unassuming BBQ place is doing everything right when it comes to food! After reading the reviews, I knew to not judge it by the outer appearance, and I am so happy I went for it. If you are looking for fancy digs, this is not it. But your belly will thank you. The ribs, brisket, sausage, fried macaroni and cheese, and potato salad were the tried items. They have soft drinks and iced tea (sweet and unsweet). No desserts were available, but I was told they generally offer banana pudding. They had a big catering event this day, so they weren't able to make it. The staff (also owners) were fantastic and friendly. Of note: there aren't many tables, but we didn't have a long wait. I can't believe that I forgot to Yelp this place! On our last trip to Gatlinburg we tried this "local's" bbq joint. Do NOT be fooled by its unassuming appearance. It looks like an auto shop/filling station. It is not flashy in hopes of drawing tourists in. Because frankly, they don't have to be. The food in this humble, no frills restaurant is so good that it packs people in. You order and then they call you to pick up your food at the counter. Styrofoam plates and checkered vinyl table cloths set the "down home" feel. Great Mac n cheese to accompany AMAZING pulled pork and ribs. The perfect amount of smoke but, still moist. How to rate this place, hmmmm....... If you think a good BBQ joint is measured by the quality of its meat, this is the place for you. All five meats on the sampler platter were obviously smoked on site and worth the brief wait! And the sides were notable, too. We got the recommended fried mac & cheese and collard greens - both were spicy and had a little kick! On the other hand, if you expect polite accommodating service without a snarky attitude - at least on the numerous signs on the front door and several spots inside, you might want to slip Delauder's, refurbish if you're already having a tough day. From the funny sign on the front door about dogs not being welcome - which I strongly agree with, by the way! - to the sign advising restrooms are for customers ONLY and the other sign on the front door that says no teams or large groups and then proceeds to give a lengthy lecture about why, the mood is set before you even walk in the door. Next, you encounter the signs blocking the dining area directing all guests to wait here - both those who want to sit and those who just want to place a drive-thru order - and challenging you not to approach the order counter until someone comes to get you! Then, 10 ft further inside are the signs about vaping (don't or you'll be immediately directed to leave!) and something else. And that wasn't all! When I went into the men's bathroom, i saw another sizable sign that said don't even think about flushing your paper towels down the toilet because the other restroom across the hall isn't currently working for the same reason (it was open, in fact!) and warning that the last time it happened, it cost them $1,250! All of the content was understandable, but the attitude behind it means they either: (1) have been visited by lots of really spoiled, cranky customers who were over the top and drove the restaurant owners of staff to become dramatic, or (2) the owners or management needs a break from customer service. I thought about leaving as I waited for a few minutes but ultimately decided to try it out anyway...and glad I did, but pretty sure I wouldn't go back unless I were in just the right mood! They need to stop giving so many orders and look for a bigger place where they can spread out because the food is worth sharing with a large audience, but the snarky attitude would turn away most guests. FYI - they were friendly in person, which made the signs seem even more out of character. Worth a visit for some good food - just don't cross them or you might get yelled at, or sent packing! The irony is, if they replaced this small, dumpy old building with a newer one, they could probably attract and feed 3-4x as many customers and create many more raving fans! But the attitude would need to change to avoid running off all of the e extra people they might attract! read more
