Thai Serenity Spa used to be reasonably priced with very good massage therapists. Recently, the…read moreprice is much higher now and the therapists are horrible. I asked for a relaxing Swedish Massage, and the therapist was not listening and kept hurting me as she treated my body like bread dough, as if she was hurriedly 'kneading bread.' She had no technique, no finesse, just kept rubbing in a random way as if she'd never had professional training. She was causing me pain and I kept telling her to go softer and slower, as I couldn't relax and would stiffen up my body since she was hurting me. She even forgot to do some areas. I tipped her anyway because of the time she spent on me, but certainly didn't deserve it. the whole thing was a waste of time and money. Never again going to Thai Serenity Spa, it's anything but serene.

Be careful! My…read moresecond appointment at La Suite was with a different esthetician named Iwona today at 3:00pm. Before she started, I informed her of my super-sensitive skin that reacts to everything, so I told her I could not have any harsh peels/exfoliations or electrical treatments performed on my face. I informed her that my dermatologist told me to use Cetaphil for sensitive skin as my skincare. Ywona said "okay, I will only do exfoliation treatment which is non-electrical and very good for your skin". I got hesitant and said: "let's not have any devices at all", but she interrupted and assured that "it is not a device, it is number 1 exfoliator on the market" and that she has been working for 29 years so she knows what she is doing. Ok. Ywona started the treatment and only then decided to inform me that it was not a regular step of the facial, but "oh, by the way, it is $125 extra". It is extremely unethical not to inform your client of this beforehand, especially when they do NOT ask for it! I told her that I came with a limited budget today and next time I will prepare better. She told me she would not charge me for this, so FINE. The rest of the facial felt rushed, the extractions were extremely painful to the point that I told her "it is okay if it is not ready to come out, just leave it, I don't mind". I have never had such painful extractions in 10 years that I have been getting facials. In the end, she put a warm towel to clean the mask off my face and my face was so irritated that it was burning from the contact with a towel so I told her that. I came home with leftovers of the cooling mask on my face. However, the WORST PART is that I spoke to my dermatologist and found out that this exfoliation should have NEVER been performed on my skin! First of all, it has to be performed by a qualified, experienced board-certified physician and the treatment has a list of contraindications (attached) which obviously did not concern Ywona. She never told me about them, never asked me if I take any blood-thinning oral medications (which I DO!), never told me it was bad for people with rosacea (which I DO have), or for people with moles (which I DO have on my cheeks), neither has she shared ANY of the details of the treatment, which turned out to be a SCRAPE OF A SCALPEL on my sensitive skin!!! Is $125 really more important than health and safety of your clients? Hope my unfortunate experience will help people be better informed before they come to this place.

I requested treatments at the desk, by phone and over email. They said they didn't know how to book them or perform them as all of the staff was new. Do not come here. I had been coming here for over 20 years. After their management changed, the location went downhill quickly. I go to another local spa that is much better. You have one in your locker (hopefully) and that's it! They don't have a rack of towels anywhere. Hooks are equally hard to come by. There is no place to hang your robe or clothes while you are in the showers or sauna. The quiet lounge area isn't that quiet. It's small and some don't really abide by the whisper zone. You are allowed in 30 min prior to appointment time and have 90 min from your appointment time. The towels were initially behind the desk but now are out on the floor and in the locker rooms. You have to get your temperature checked before you enter. The locker rooms have plenty of lockers but I didn't notice any social distancing signs or blocked lockers like other clubs. The steam room isn't open yet but there are showers available. You are encouraged to wipe down the equipment before and after you use it. The space in the gym is pretty large especially with limitations. They are blocking other equipment, and the only thing that bothered me is people doing cardio with no masks, in every other equinox I've been in you have to wear a mask at all times except when taking a sip of water. I'll still be coming here, likely doing my cardio outside instead.

I want to start off saying that I generally really like Equinox. I have been a member here on and…read moreoff, probably going back to 2010, but decided to part ways with it for good recently. For why that is I will get into further in the review but I want to point out some positives first. The gym is very clean, and organized, the staff are wonderful and friendly, and the people that go here, mostly follow gym etiquette and are fine. So what's the problem? Well for starters the gym has not really changed much going back 15 years. Yea, they updated the gym flooring recently, but the equipment is still the same. There used to be coolers of cucumber or lemon water that you could use that no longer exists. The gym recently had a $15 price increase a couple of months ago, and I know what you're thinking. A rich guy like you making a big deal over $15? No, but when I pay close to $300 a month I want to be able to exercise when I go to a gym, and therein lies the problem. This place is packed, SO PACKED that I don't care how much I'm paying a month for a membership I want to be able to exercise. I generally go around 9-10am on weekdays but it's a zoo. I just love going to a gym and having to wait forever for equipment, thus making a normal workout last 30-60 minutes longer due to waiting. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother going on Saturday mornings around that time, or on a holiday weekday where everyone has the day off. I've walked in on days like that and you can't even see the gym equipment with all the people floating around. There have been multiple times after walking into that I just turned around and walked out. How can anyone exercise in that kind of environment? At that point it becomes more of a social scene, much like Lifetime in Harrison, where people don't actually go to workout, they go to be seen and mingle while their nannies are taking care of the kids, and their chauffer is dropping them off in their Bentleys. Even going in the afternoon at around 3pm is much busier than it has any right to be now and I can't imagine what the rush around 5-6pm would be like. There is a lot of good to be had in this gym if they actually capped their memberships or maybe expanded their gym into the super secret $10k a year private fitness area that absolutely no one uses, but as of right now for the price I can't recommend it if you actually care to work out. As it stands this place is only good for exercising your patience.
