Took my family to del toro on a Saturday evening. Parking was kind of hard because it was busy for all the restaurants in the area. Once inside the ladies working at the front were really nice and explained how everything worked. You order and take the buzzer to let you know when it's ready. I had to try the birria tacos and a Texas Twinkie. Also tried the brisket nachos. There was plenty of seating with booths and tables. It didn't take long for the food to get done at all. My favorite was the brisket nachos with plenty of meat and the Texas twinkie was just as good. I've had better birria tacos. That was a disappointment. Del Toro is located off Main Street in the Historic downtown Mansfield, serving up great BBQ and craft beer from By The Horns Brewing that is located in The Backyard. We came through on a Friday night, and it was fairly crowded inside and out but managed to find a bench outside in The Backyard. There is free public parking across the street, also along Main Street, and behind the business. They have multiple benches and chairs to sit at outside with a heater to keep you warm in the cold Texas winter months. The ordering is pretty much simple as to where you order from the cashier, and they give you a buzzer to come and pick up your food when it's ready. We went ahead and ordered the 4 meat platter in which we chose brisket, pork belly, pork ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. As for the sides, we ordered the elote, mac n cheese, and loaded potato salad. We also ordered the nachos with queso to snack on for our appetizer. Within about 10 minutes, our buzzer went off, and the food was ready for us to pick up. The presentation of the food was beautiful indeed, and everything looked perfect in my eyes. The brisket was cooked perfectly and juicer than ever, while the pork ribs were bone fall off tender and seasoned to perfection. The burnt end pork belly was nice and burnt with a juicy finish that resembled a nice and sweet candy like taste. The jalapeño sausage was smoked right and had a nice snap back when biting into. The sides were a nice compliment to the main course and paired really well with the meats. My favorite was the loaded potato salad that tasted like a baked potato with all the toppings in a cold salad form. Overall, Del Toro was a great place to dine in with friends and family. My first time at Del Toro, but not my last! I loved this simple yet cozy spot. It's casual and has a cute outdoor area so you can take your dog and they have some kind of game for kids. We stayed inside but it was good to see they had something for kids. My curiosity was piqued when I saw barbecue tacos on the menu. That's not something I have had, but my husband has. I went for something I was familiar with, Birria tacos. Omg! They were filled with meat and cheese, and were lightly fried. Anytime I've gotten birria, there is some fat and juice involved, and theirs was similar. It lends to the flavor. The meat was tender and the broth that it is served with is SO tasty! It was a little spicy but a friend and I agreed the flavor is beautiful! I'm an intermittent faster and a light eater,so I was ready for this meal, but one taco and Mac n cheese was enough for me, but my husband ordered two bbq tacos and shared in on the Mac n cheese. Prices are definitely affordable. Hubby loved the barbecue tacos as well as the macaroni n cheese. Normally, I don't eat pasta, but I wanted to try it. The cheese was very flavorful and the macaroni was cooked between al dente and stracotto. We finished it, no problem! The service was good. I ordered the cherry limeade cocktail and it was light and tasty. Yum! The only negative was that they ran out of the blonde beer my husband really enjoyed. Del Toro BBQ So after fighting the urge to roll over and go back to sleep on this nice rainy day in Texas, we decided to get the kids out the house and get breakfast but or plans were foiled by long wait lines for a party of 5. A pound of brisket (lean and moist), a pound of ribs, the 1/2 pound of jalapeño sausage, some Mac n Cheese, and a couple of Texas Twinkies. Our server Jackie took our order. Bobby, the Pit Master, brought us a sample of their pork belly burnt ends. Great brewery atmosphere. Fast & friendly service. We went early but I can tell this place is popping in the evening with the bar and vibe. The Brisket was classic Texas style. Salt, pepper, and smoke. Nice and tender. The ribs were tender and competition bite. I can still see my bite and it held together nicely. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was simple and classic. Not too spicy. The kids enjoyed it. The pork belly burnt end was rendered really well to the point it crisp up with a nice chew. The Texas Twinkie was on the meaty side. Full of brisket, a hint of cream cheese. I came here for dinner with family. It was a quiet night and wasn't too crowded inside the restaurant. We don't eat pork and quickly realized that a lot of the non-pork proteins (beef ribs, quail) were only offered on the weekend. So I opted for the "ranch hand" plate and chose the brisket and turkey breast. My sides were the Mac and cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread. I'll get the negativity out of the way and say that the cornbread was not my favorite. There was one ingredient that overpowered it and left an aftertaste. We learned about Del Toro as a result of Legacy High School's spirit night. First of all, thank you to the owners/management for supporting community kids. We were excited when we saw the menu on Yelp as it listed beef ribs (a rarity in DFW). Upon arriving, we learned that beef ribs were no longer a menu item which was a disappointment. Our family adjusted and changed our planned dinner items. We had the brisket nachos, chips and queso, chopped brisket sandwich, sliced brisket, Mac n cheese, and the elote. We would return for the chopped brisket sandwich....and oh their bbq sauce!!!! YUMMY!!! Their nacho chips were DELICIOUS and stood up to the weight of toppings rich nachos and creamy queso. Their service was excellent - and we had the opportunity to experience their problem resolution as the cashier rang our nachos up as chips and queso. The waitress and manager promptly and courteously corrected the mistake, gave us the incorrect items, and wouldn't accept the difference in $$ from us - instead they were very apologetic for the error. Don't get me wrong, I like this place in certain ways, though I used to love this place more when they first opened. They are doing table service now instead of walk up ordering so add tip to the cost of it all if you go. The frito pie was intensely salty to the point I couldn't eat it. Their twinkies and birriw are still very good, the birria is insanely oily though, you dont even need consome, lol. I realize this isn't "traditional" BBQ which is totally fine by me, but the sides just aren't at the same level as the meats and ambiance. The BBQ is some of the best I've had in all of the DFW area. The pork belly/burnt ends were DELICIOUS, the ribs are good but not fall off the bone ribs, the sausage is AMAZING, and the pulled pork (while lots of seasoned fat is included) is absolutely FANTASTIC. The ambiance is really cool (indoors and outdoors) - there is a small brewery inside, a few tables inside and more tables outside, cool decor and very clean. I got the Vaquero combo (3 meats+2 sides), sliced brisket, chopped brisket, and burnt ends, along with charro beans and mac. -Sliced brisket was dry, didn't look like they had just sliced it, but who knows. I knew it'd be downhill after tasting the brisket. -Burnt ends...the bark was inedible. So incredibly tough so even trying to cut that part off and eat the rest continued the letdown. -The chopped brisket, was ok. Not terrible but not good either. -Charro beans were ok. -Mac was not good. It was mushy and turned into a ball of dough in your mouth. The service was good but man it was such a letdown. I am always skeptical of any new BBQ place because there are so many bad ones in Texas that people say are "good". However, I broke my own rules and tried this place relatively early and I was pleasantly surprised. This is in the place where Tacos and Avocados was before the pandemic. They still brew beer there but I haven't been able to try any yet. The BBQ was actually pretty tasty. I liked the chopped brisket the best. Sausage was pretty good. I didn't love the pulled pork. I find most places can either do brisket well or pork well and in Del Toro's case I think it's the brisket. There is limited seating room inside so if the weather isn't good, you might want to reconsider it. Burger place is still next door. read more
