The hermit crabs are facing a severe case of neglect. Temperatures are low. No salt water. Malnourished diet only popcorn. No humidity to breath through their gills. Dead crabs. Missing limbs. Stressed. Toxic Painted shells. I wanted to help offering jungle bedding and food and they would not accept. The sales woman was rude and rolled her eyes at me. I offered my number in case one got sick and another employee ripped the number when I walked out. I have been polite. Changes Color In The Sun - How Fun!! Dol Sol sells clothing and accessories which change from white/clear to a color in the sunshine. Monterey tourist T-shirts, board shorts, tote bags, frisbee, hats even nail polish. This shop is fun to just play in as there are little UV "charging stations" all around the shop so you can run around and hold each item up to the UV source and watch how and what color each item morphs into! Black and white ladies board shorts = pink flowers ooooh . . . clear glitter nail polish = sparkly red nails sweeet . . . clear child's headband = multicolored red/blue/green ahhh! After playing with just about everything in the store ended up with a couple $3 key chains and some hair clips for $8. read more

SO COOL! Everything there can change color in the sun. You can choose from T-Shirts, ear rings, necklaces, many other accessories and even nail colors. The style are kinda limited. Their prices are not cheap but it is reasonable for something that can change in the sun!!!! The staffs there are friendly and helpful. Stopped in here cuz my daughter wanted to go check out this store. She said that everything they sell changed color in the sun. I didn't see anything I wanted except for their $9 nail polish. I have NEVER spent so much on nail polish but I had to get it. It's a light blue and changes to a light purple in the sun. I haven't tried it yet. But they were having a special I think. It was buy 3 bottles get 1 free. The guy working on this day 6/6/10 was very helpful and friendly. He explained how every item turns a different color in the sun. He picked up an item and put it on their UV machine and you can see what color it changed to. Their plastic bag changes color too. I failed to get one cuz I just put my items in my purse. I didn't even hear him when he told us it changed colors too. Hubby told me when we got outside and I didn't want to go back in and ask for it. :( Oh well next time. Oh and when I was paying for my purchases, I saw little forms that you can fill out to win something. I think it was a gift card or something....I forgot! The stuff in here is extremely interesting ! UV light toys. Shine some UV lights and they will change colors. They have all sorts of cool things in there. I wanted to get a sun glasses, but like it was very bad quality. because the shades were almost ripped off the rims. but i would definitely get a shirt if they had a cool design. 4 stars for having great creativity ! and having life time warrant. read more

The shirt shopping experience was great. My brother in law, son and I had a great time on the 26th of Dec shopping there. Bought a shirt and a cool frisbee. But, when checking out were told the we just show our receipt at the Louie Linguini's upstairs for 10% off our bill and that was a total fail. Embarrassing to be in a situation where you are asking your server for a dining discount and she has no idea, nor does her manager, of any such deal. All three of us remember very specifically what was said so we were all bothered by the misleading info. The clothes are great, but this type of wrong information can lead to embarrassment. Make sure all the facts are straight. I will be back, as the products were creative and fun. Stopped in with the kids during vacation. They left crying. Dead, dying and tortured hermit crabs everywhere. We have hermies as pets. What's being done to them is torture. Poor food and water. No heat or humidity. They're being slowly tortured to death. And no one cares. It's just about the money. Certain will not return next vacation. read more

The cashier was super friendly. I had visited the Del Sol in Catalina Island, but this place seems to have a better stock. Del Sol is a tourist-trap shop, which specializes in color changing apparel. Mostly limited to the standard white shirts and such, but I ended up purchasing one of the grey strapless dresses for $30. They have one fitting room where you can try things on, although it kind of smelled a bit like b/o. read more

I recently visited the Monterey area and was staying in the Days Inn. Printed on my room key was a promotion for Del Sol which offered a free tote bag for visiting the store. My roommates and I made a special stop to get our free tote bags which are really nice quality bags that change color in the sun. I would have given the store a better review if the girls working there were a bit nicer. I know good customer service, and this was far from it. Why is it that people in their teens/early 20's who work customer service jobs seem to have a problem with everything and everyone? Well, Del Sol was no exception because when my friends and I went to get our bags the girl working was very reluctant to give us the offer indicated on the room key. She was rolling her eyes and giving us a hard time about where we were staying and didn't want to give us each one. I insisted that we each receive the bag that the store was offering free of charge, especially since we bought $9 bottles of nail polish which is very steep even for a color changing product. Needless to say, this wasn't a highlight of the day despite the great merchandise. It's a shame. read more

Touristy place, but the gimmick is cute. My sister and I went in here and I ended up purchasing a t shirt for myself and a keychain. Both change colors in the sun. The t shirt was the most expensive I purchased while in Monterey, but not an exorbitant price. I saw a t shirt in another store that was just a t shirt and it was almost twice the price as the one I purchased here, which changes color in the sun. The key chains are cute and they are only $4.00 each. Great souvenirs! I will go back when in the area again just to get souvenirs for family and friends. read more
