My friend and I decided to have a nice dinner at Delmar last night and it was an excellent choice! :) The restaurant closes at 8pm and we arrived at 7:30pm, but no one rushed us and the food came out really quick! My friend got one of their sandwiches and I got the fish and chips. The fish was lightly battered, with just the right amount of crispiness! The fish also had a ... "fish" tasty to it :P Which some people hate, but I'm fine with because it is fish after all, it'd be awkward if it tasted like mushrooms or something :P The fries were also amazing, and I love how they include a free salad for the fish and chips! Also, both the fish and fries were not greasy which was a big and wonderful surprise, because after a big meal like that, I didn't even feel guilty! :) Delmar is quite large, and it is very clean and tidy. It opened in the 1950s and although it has a nice 50s vibe, it doesn't feel "old". The one and only reason why I gave this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 is because of their menu. They offer all-day-breakfast which is nice, and a regular lunch/dinner menu. Their menu is not "small" but limited. For example, they offer 10+ types of sandwiches, but no hot dogs. They offer 7-8 types of omelettes but no skillets. They offer lots of varieties for 1 item, but they're not diverse when it comes to other classic diner and breakfast foods. They also have a small dessert and beverage menu. Overall though, I enjoyed my visit very much and my friend even gives this place a 5/5! So check out Delmar if you're driving by :) read more

Went because it's a "landmark". Food was "meh". Standard diner grub but it was just off and bad. The lemon meringue pie definitely came out of a box, which just topped off such a "meh" meal. Service was even more "meh". Took forever to get our coffees. Ordered a grapefruit juice as well. They were out, which she didn't tell me until I finally asked her if I could get my juice. Ordered apple juice instead and got orange juice. At that point I gave up and drank the orange juice. Probably won't go back. There are so many good diners out there that there's no need to subject yourself to a mediocre experience from this supposed "landmark". read more

Strong 3 stars. What can I say, the place is a dive diner in the east end. The dust on the overhead lights have probably been collecting since the early 80's. Expect a Goldie Locks and the 3 bears situation, when it comes to finding a seat at a booth that's just right for you, they need some work. The bathrooms are, well, maybe just go before you go... Ya know. You'll also know when the owner Gus is in the house, because you can smell the dude from across the room. Love their burgers, for the price you can't go wrong, and they're homemade. I probably just don't want to see how they get prepped. The cooks however always, skimp out on the fries all of the time. If I'm dropping an extra few bucks for a side of frozen fries, I better see more than 10-15 of them on my plate. The service, I love all the ladies that work there, they work their tails off. My coffee gets refilled before I can even think to ask. They pretty well know what I want, when I come in, which is usually once or twice every couple of months, and they always put up with and appropriately handle my constant silly gripe about the lack of fries. They're the reason I come back, I have ate at the majority highly rated restaurants here in London, and others all around North America during my many business travels, but the Dirty-Del, is the joint where I continue to receive some of the best and what I consider ideal service. You won't find any young self entitled brats serving here, just some sweethearts with life experience, who really earn their money. read more

Giving the Delmar two stars makes me sad. I used to (not that long ago) love this place. It was a perfect little old school diner. Until recently. The quality and service has slipped drastically. So much so that we stopped going. I suppose if you were a new customer one would be satisfied with the fare, but you wouldn't rave about it. It's worth trying and maybe some time soon they'll find their magic again. read more

Was not impressed with this place. Showed up around 10 am on a weekday and were told to sit anywhere. There were maybe 8 or 10 tables free, so we figured we would have an easy time finding a spot, but every single 4-top had yet to be bussed, so we ended up at a very small table for two. Our server brought us one menu and said she'd be back with a second, but that didn't happen. Luckily the menu is your standard greasy spoon fare and we didn't need to take too much time pouring over the menu. We ordered the special - bacon, eggs, home fries and toast. The bacon was crispy, the fries were tasty, and the toast was of a decent quality; however the eggs were really greasy and didn't sit so well with me. We were there for about 45 minutes and only once, at the end of our meal, did someone come by and offer to refill our coffees. There are many choices for greasy spoon breakfast in the area, so I don't think I'll be back to this one. read more

They used have great service and awesome food but recently they lost 2 long time wait staff (Darlene and Beanne) who were awesome staff and hired a new cook who's not a very good cook, I don't think Leo has clue how to run a restaurant , most of the regulars have moved on, way to go Leo maybe u should take lesson on running a restaurant from Gus.
