I'm convinced that Kipps is one of the best choices for fish and chips in London. It's so popular that when I decided to buy for the first time 2 hours before closing, they had already closed orders for the day! I knew better for the next time and pre-ordered for pick up a few hours after opening lol. The place felt local and the short customer service we received at pick-up was kind and courteous. We ordered the Saturday NZ blue cod and chips special (doesn't come with coleslaw) and shore dinner (halibut fish and chips, coleslaw, 4 scallops, 2 oysters and 4 fantail shrimp). Everything was fried to perfection - not too greasy with the right crisp. The fries are my fav kind too - cut large, crisp on the outside and soft and potatoey on the inside. The coleslaw was also good. I would recommend just buying the fish and chips and skipping out on the other stuff I got because although good, it wasn't anything special. I only got a really quick snap after eating half the meal because we were so excited and hungry to dig in haha. So trust me - it was yummier than what my picture might show. :) My only comment (and it's a big one for me) is the tartar sauce. It's very bland and not tart at all - almost like mayo. We had seafood sauce for the fantail shrimp and that was more tart. A big part of fish and chips for me is the tartar sauce so unfortunately I won't be ordering from here again. This is not as big of a dealbreaker for my boyfriend on the other hand so he's definitely going to be going to Kipps more in the future haha. read more

This was my first time trying this restaurant and I ordered through DoorDash. I went with the cod fish & chips and wasn't completely satisfied. The fish was so greasy I wish they let it rest on a towel or a drying rack for a little bit longer just to get some of the oil out. The batter was also not cooked through on some of the ends. Not sure if I'd try it again, but it might be different if I had ate at the restaurant rather than getting it delivered. read more

Basically a London institution for some of the best fish and chips you can find. I'm in my forties now and have been going here regularly since I was a little wee kid. Pleased to see that it's still the same family that own and operate the place; quite the legacy. I decided to try a new fish-and-chips place in town; this one had very good reviews. As suggested by Yelpers, I ordered the special of the day. My order was ready at the time that it was promised. There is a notice on the website that they sometimes have to stop taking orders mid-afternoon on Fridays, so bear that in mind. The fish was fine; the coating was the same style and thickness as other places. The daily special came with two good-sized pieces of fish and fries. The fries are thick-cut, so you get a substantial hunk of potatoey goodness. The homemade tartar sauce is tasty. It's a bit of a hike for the same quality of meal that I can get closer to home. I can see why Kipps Lane would be a draw if you live in that part of the city, but I wouldn't make the trek next time. read more

The crew at Kipps Lane are friendly and fast. There's always a fun buzz with the staff and any customers who are waiting for their take-out orders. After a few orders you're recognized and greeted like a friend. The food is exactly what you want fish and chips to be; the fish is fresh, moist, flavorful and the coating crispy, the fries and onion rings fried to perfection. The best fish and chips! That's not just in London but I truly believe this is one of the best fish and chips spots. It's primarily a take out restaurant and it is recommended that you call into place your order. From my experience your food is typically ready in 20-30 minutes but I have experienced longer on busier days. I've tried the halibut, cod, haddock and captain's choice, all of which I would highly recommend. They do have specials during the week so I pay attention to those to get the best value. The service here is also great. The original owner's daughter is usually at cash and she's always warm, welcoming and genuinely happy to serve each and every customer. You have to dig deep in London ON to find an eatery whose food is not, in a word, terrible. This place is a total anomaly for London, in that it is the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. Anywhere. Hands down. Including in Ireland and England. This place is so popular that people just step through the door and the proprietress knows their order. The phone doesn't stop ringing from regulars calling in. The owner, Jacquie, takes great pride in this having been her father's place for 40 years and mentioned that fact, and him, frequently as I sat and dined. It is truly a labor of love, and that shows in the amazing, delicious homemade food. Don't do anything but order the halibut meal with the house-made tartar sauce. Overall it was a good experience. About $11 for a plate of fries with a nice piece of fish. Great service as well. My only complaint is the plating. They have good portions at a fair price and it is all so good, even their homemade sauce is delicious. Very inconsistent. If the owner is there it's not bad. I had halibut and chips in the middle of the afternoon and she was not present. Yuckkkk! The fries were a mixture of mostly re-fries that were burnt and inedible. The halibut was difficult to find amongst the plethora of batter. I tried this place 3x in the past year and my opinion is this: Too much batter, too greasy, cooked too long and too crunchy (fries burnt) and their home made tartar sauce is ok but a little less celery salt or seed would be welcome.
