The campground is great full hookup and parked right on the sand in 2nd row. Plenty of room between sites. Each site has a nice fire pit and a table. The draw back was it took over 2 hours to get a background check and clearance to get on base. They said because it was our first time. That was the reason I rated it a 4.0. But we will be coming back since we got our clearance. read more

Pro: Location is excellent - beach front and easy access. Charcoal Grill was a great addition to the cottage along with your designated wood burning Fire pit. Front porch with outside table and chairs was also nice to have for outdoor dining. Con: In-line for over 3-4 hrs, some longer, just to get registered at the Visitors Center. Power went out Saturday morning then water went out in the afternoon. Very dated units - utensils looked unsafe to use, so bring your own. Saw a lot of bugs throughout. Shower had drainage issues. Need better lighting and housekeeping need to do a better job cleaning the cottage. read more

Always fun here IF you can get in reservations. Online is ok at times but can be inaccurate. Driving up and asking about late cancellations is always a great way to get in. But that is not a convenience that many people have if you're planning while on the road. Customer service can be so so. Sometimes it's great and other times the staff can seem overwhelmed and rigid. These beach villas are nothing like they were when newly renovated about a decade ago. They are now dilapidated and disgusting. There is deferred maintenance everywhere. If permitted, I will attach a photo of our bathroom door that wouldn't close, the patio door handle is falling apart, hair covers the shower drain, most of the walls have something splattered on them and it looks like the cabinets and door frames have never been cleaned. When we woke up before sunrise and flipped on the kitchen light to make coffee, bugs covered the countertop and sink. The office sent someone over right away to spray but he left a shiny, slippery coating on the entire floor. They said someone would clean the floor but they didn't come until we asked again the following day after we had already wiped up the floor with towels. We were told we could only get one "light" housekeeping during our four night stay but that never materialized either. I understand a couple hundred bucks a night is cheap for a cottage on the beach. However, this beach is on a military base, used by the military for a variety of purposes, and paid for with tax dollars. This review is about the villa, which is no better than a third-rate motel. The last time I was here was during my military duty--oh my goodness, that was such a long time ago! This place always has a calm vibe whenever I visit. On the 4th of July, it gets packed, but thankfully they let me in to relax after my morning skydiving jump in the neighborhood. I truly love it here; I feel so safe at this beach. It's like stepping away and knowing that my belongings will still be there. Everyone at this beach is respectful, unlike other civilian beaches where you have to be watchful of your things because they might go missing! This place really is a gem. read more

We had an amazing time camping on the beach. Close to the loud crashing waves. Sometimes we had great sun, sometimes fun fog. The facilities are fairly clean. They have warm showers. The beach is clean and wide. We were here with a YMCA group, so we didn't need to be associated with the military. We did get background checks. It's a special place. read more

Such a beautiful day at the beach! We feel so grateful to have this on Camp Pendleton. Access to this beach is one of the perks as a retired Air Force veteran. We hadn't been here in years. We were aware that there are cottages that could be rented here but we did not realize there is a Ramones Cantina and rented cabanas. We ordered margaritas from Ramones and then shave ice from a food truck. So refreshing! The cabanas can be rented for $50 per day through Beach Services. Lots of folks boogie boarding & families enjoying the day. There's a nice playground for the kids. I can't wait to bring my grandson here. There is RV parking and ample vehicle parking. We saw a lot of tents throughout We're pleasantly surprised at how nice it truly is here. So glad we got a good dose of Vitamin D and clean air! We're making plans to rent a cabana one of these days! read more

Beautiful campground! Unfortunately, when it rains it does flood a lot, so if rain is in the forecast be prepared to have waterproof shoes. Beyond that we were in spot #33 which was located at the far end of the campground (the last site on the beach) so neighbors only on one side. The WiFi at this spot was pretty spotty so we used our hotspots to stream a movie during the downpour. I think you probably wouldn't have this issue if you were at a site a bit closer to the office/router area. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. The beachfront sites ($90.00 X night) have spectacular views and access to the very large beach area. However, for $80.00 x night sites the walk to the beach is 30 seconds, so no real bad sites. Everyone was very friendly. The grounds also have a walk up cantina you can get alcoholic drinks and bites. There is also a kid friendly cove which is a really cool thing if you have kiddos (really safe since there really aren't any crazy swells). In all, a great experience and looking forward to coming back when the suns out so we can have our buns out! lol. Happy camping! read more

First time staying at the literal end of the Summer season. My first night was summer prices, and the second night was winter prices. The Good: The cottages are nice and functional. You have two reserved parking spaces in front. The bed was comfortable with 4 pillows. The bathroom provided soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The kitchen had a coffee maker and toaster, plus a full-sized stove and refrigerator. There were two large screen flat TVs. It's pretty much right on the beach. And this beach is well-maintained, as I saw them on early Monday morning with a bulldozer making sure the sand berm was in perfect condition. There wasn't a ton of people on the beach. I remember coming a few weekends earlier and the beach was packed. Each cottage had a patio table, a weber type charcoal grill, and a fire pit. There is a marine mart (for retirees, military, etc) that sold a ton of snacks and firewood. They do check IDs. There is always the commissary on Mainside for meats and more detailed supplies. Or not far in Oceanside, there is a mini Walmart, 99 cent store, etc. On the weekend, there was a Dunkin Donuts food truck in the parking lot in the morning. The Bad: The DirectTV went out on one of the TVs. Covid19 changes meant no daily room cleanings. Covid19 meant that you were given some paper plates, bowls, cups, and plastic flatware. I used the plates as kindling for the fire. There was nothing to cook with: pots, pans, etc. The WiFi was out the entire weekend. Indifferent: Most of the other people staying in the cottages are families and retirees. Some of the marines use the beach for runs and workouts early in the weekday morning. The Del Mar gate closed at 8 PM and reopened at 6 AM Conclusion: If you want a clean beach experience for the cost of the nicer hotel rooms in Oceanside, this is the place. I think I'll be back but on a busier weekend or July 4th if I can score that week. read more

Hard to beat a single bedroom beach cottage with a kitchen and patio to enjoy an almost private beach! Perfect place to enjoy sunsets and destress as you listen to the waves. Great watching point too in the morning of the surfers. Due to Covid the cottages are providing a few paper plates, bowls, cups and utensils instead of the kitchenware they used to be stocked with. They still have pots and pans for patrons to use in the cottage. Staff at the office were friendly and accommodating. read more

Looks good from the outside and inside. After being there the facility had a smoke smell and the hot water never got hot. Called guest services and maintenance came to reset. The next day after working out went to take a shower once again no hot water and shortly there after no water at all! No compensation for my inconvenience!! read more

We have done the cottages it's right on the beach and fun getaway. They have a ice cream truck that drives thru the site. Great location and beautiful beach. However, the house keeping staff is not friendly or courteous. Check in is ridiculous. This facility charges you for items allegedly used or missing without your knowledge. The cabana I was in could not be secured as the lock was broken. I left multiple messages for management and not one return phone call. My stay here was in July of 2023 for an active duty family event. Had I known I was going to get taken advantage of, I would have just returned home. I do not recommend this place. read more

First time at this beach. Have to have a military base access. Super nice beach. You can camp off the beach. They have a small restaurant off the beach. There's a kids play area in the beach. The beach is open to about 8-6 and base rules are that you can't go into the water after those hours. No life guard in duty. If you are able to get on the base and like benefit of having less people on a Cali beach then you can't go wrong here. read more

I've stayed at other military beach camping spots and this by far is the worst. They won't let you check in a minute early and told us to come back. Arrived 10 minutes after check in and had to wait over an hour to check in. The receptionist was super short and borderline rude. The beach was nice and the cottages are a close walk to the beach. We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage in the back of the marina. It looks nice from the outside and even when you walk in. But these places must be dirtier than the eye can see because as soon as night appeared so did all the cockroaches. And I mean you couldn't turn the lights off at all because five seconds dark and they were out. So we had to leave all the lights on all night. They were mainly in the kitchen coming out of refrigerator/stove. But I bet they would have crawled to rooms if we didn't leave every light on all night. Did sleep with bed lights off and was okay. Washed every bit of laundry and blankets when we got home. I'll never ever go back. Stay in an RV on beach, much better. Of even at the Pacific hotel, that place is nice. read more

Our experience from JUST ONE NIGHT.... We were gifted a stay here as a late honeymoon trip. Full transparency, our party had our days wrong and we fully take ownership of that mistake. We had a 2 night stay that we showed up a day late for. However, when we checked in, the receptionist did not acknowledge the dates or any other details of our stay, so we did not personally find out until we were past check out that we needed to leave. We checked in before going to dinner and came back to the room after 11pm. We could not see the cottage numbers and entered the wrong section. We quickly realized we were in the wrong section and drove to the right cottage. Once parked, security came up to us and treated us as if we were trespassing - even after showing them our parking pass that had our room number and departure date on it, they still were hesitant to believe us. The next morning, we wanted to do a fire in the fire pit. We were advised by the rental store that we needed to go to guest services to get fire wood. We went to guest services and talked to Jeanie (older woman with short light red hair) we asked how the fire pits worked and she told us that they were only for guests. We told her we were and throughout our whole interaction, she questioned us several times about being guests there (although she never once asked our name or room number). Once she took our payment for the bundle of fire wood, she sent us to the back patio to get it ourselves (with a stroller) and didn't tell us there wasn't an exit - all because she was too lazy to get the bundle herself. Right after 11, house keeping came to clean and this is when we found out about the mix up with the reservation. The house keeping attendant was very nice and called the front desk about extending the stay and came back and told us that we just needed to call to have it extended. We went to the front desk and talked to the manager, Richard, and he was extremely arrogant and stand off-ish from the very start of our conversation. We tried to explain our experience with the staff to him and he found it all to be "normal" and told us several times that the staff was not allowed to discuss the reservation or talk with us because we were not the names on the reservation. Not one time did a SINGLE staff member ask for our name OR room number... he still insisted that we didn't have a bad experience. When I told the manager that his tone was not good, he was appalled and tried to deny his attitude problem. His demeanor also lessened once our sponsor arrived - he was still rude, but not as bad as when our sponsor was not present. This was a horrible experience and the staff is not on the same page about anything and apparently they aren't trained on proper procedures. read more

Through the years, the reservation service has been declining and as of late completely unacceptable. As a retiree, we don't have the one day advantage. I understand active duty has the priority. However, when someone calls to reserve a cottage during the designated time for the future date and is electronic placed on hold for hours upon hours without ever speaking to a person is completely ridiculous. My family and I have been going to Del Mar beach resort for many years. It is a great location for family and friends. We have never had any issues with cleanliness or any other potential problems the beach may bring. Over the past two days we have tried to reserve a cottage for August. Before I was place on hold electronically, it took over 100+ tries only to be put on hold for hours. I was not even given the opportunity to receive a callback. There must be change. read more

Nice beach and clean. Sadly though, the 6 feet apart and small group restrictions are not enforced. Many families come here so I was disappointed when a man was smoking a cigar only six feet away in front of my kids . Lifeguard truck must not have seen it or it's not restricted from smoking around children and families. We have been here for 2 months and it's been heaven! Literally right on the beach with the most incredible sunsets at your door. Everything you need... laundry, commissary etc: Oceanside is minutes drive... cute town with restaurants/shops. If you don't like sand.. maybe not your kind of place! Sand in your rig, bed is a constant chore but oh so worth it! Fire pits right on the beach. We are very sad to leave... can't beat California living. read more

Perfect spot to enjoy a nice cold beer on the sand without being bothered by authorities, which is awesome! Two different children's playground area both on the North and South end of the beach. So if you have kids who would rather be sliding and swinging, it's helpful. It was not that crowded during our visit being that it was at 4pm when we arrived. There are tiny huts equipped with two beach chairs to relax on if you have not reserved any of beach cottages and cabanas on the beach. Overall, nice and clean beach to enjoy a cold brew. Absolutely love this semi-private beach. As expected, from a military standpoint, it's clean, organized, professional, and fun! You don't worry about trash or glass in the sand. Restrooms are clean and spacious. Parking is free and right next to the sand. Lifeguards are in full effect. Snack bar and restaurant are on premises. You can also rent cabanas, beach cottages, or use the RV area if you make reservations. Of course, you must be military or be sponsored by a military person to gain access and/or make reservations for some accommodations. The best part to me is not worrying about getting in the water and returning to pilfered belongings. Even dolphins love this beach! We saw a big pod of them yesterday! Our beach of choice always when it comes to San Diego or Los Angeles. read more

Unfortunately, even with the pandemic, this was not a good place to stay. Due to the Covid, we were unable to stay anywhere else that had water. (Pool, hot tub, all closed due to the Covid, etc.) This "Resort" was within 1,000 feet of the Pacific Ocean. We had to change cottages 1/2 way through the week, and that cottage was only better as there weren't any ants. Cottage #1 had ants, thousands and thousands of ants. My DIL and I had to clean the kitchen and then call for help with the rest of the ants on the floors. The stove was dirty with ants. The counters had a sea of ants. Under the microwave was also dirty with ants. Makes me wonder if this kitchen was sanitized/cleaned in the setting of a pandemic. The roll-out bed in the spare room-ants. The floors were disgusting throughout the cottages-pictures below. This is in both cottages. The shower was busted in the Primary suite. All faucets were old and greenish. There weren't enough toiletries for 7 people: in both cottages. The main complaint I have - is there wasn't any AIR CONDITIONING!!Had I known about the no AC, that would have been a deal breaker for me. The TV was smart. We stayed at the RV campground on the beach as our last stop in our PCS from Illinois. This was the fourth stop for us and by far the worst and yet most expensive. Reserved spots weren't spaced out because several of the spots' electric wasn't working so we were packed next to our neighbors. There are two bathroom areas and they were both disgusting- one of them looked like some pigeons had fought to the death in a few of the stalls with blood and feces and feathers everywhere. Cigarette butts and trash are everywhere. We were supposed to stay two nights and then get our house but we are actually getting out of here a day early and checking into a hotel- we'd rather lose tonight's reservation money than stay here. What doesn't make sense is this is the most staffed, most expensive campground we've stayed in and yet there doesn't seem to be any maintenance going on, or perhaps the other guests are just disrespectful of the space. read more

Every RV spot is great and gives the beach vibes with quick access to the beach but the front row is the only that provides a direct view from the site. Recently had to downgrade this since I bought my trailer. Look the beach is super awesome and I'm really appreciative of the privilege of staying here. My downgrade is for management not the facilities. The facilities are awesome however, you can tell this is the government and not a free market. Check-in is at 1300 I get it however, it's difficult to time perfectly when you are going to arrive particularly if you're coming from a long distance i.e. out of state. The park was half empty(since check-out is at 1100 and they WILL NOT check you in. It's insane. The first time I came later on a weekday and thought the long line for checking in was my fault....IT'S NOT. Do these geniuses not realize that there are "4" parking spaces for RVs while checking in? They are purposefully causing a back up. When I came to check in at 1215 I was second in line. When I left at 1310 an hour F'ing later(takes 5 min for the paperwork) there was a dozen people behind me and RVs stacked up in the street. They literally made us stand there while NOTHING was going on in the office and wait for 1300. Why would you not spreadload customers? Some RV parks will call you and let you know you can go ahead and check in early. They get it. Yeah hotels have check in times but if there is an open room and you get there early they usually "see what they can do". And they usually get you in a room. You know why because they operate in a free market. It's a parking spot. With open spaces. You don't have to prepare anything. It's rather pathetic. What's also pathetic is forcing me to pay $12 to pitch a tent on the lot that I just rented. WHAT? If you don't have an RV you don't have to pay if you have an RV and say your kids wanna sleep outside in the tent you have to pay even more? FOR WHAT? Lastly what is the dog fee for? You can't do shit with them? I work on Del Mar. I walk my dogs down there free all the time so what exactly are the RV renters paying for? They can't go on the beach. The only place you can take your dogs is pretty much where anyone who's not staying there can take their dogs and dog walkers don't pay a fee so what exactly are you charging us for? Nothing worse than MCCS bilking service members for money for nothing. read more

Good luck trying to book a cottage with them! First they tell you to call three months in advance for the dates you want. Then when you call, you get directed to an automation that tells you to call back cause they are supposedly having high volume calls. This goes on all day and I tried it for three days straight. I called at least five times every hour. No one ever picks up the phone. When I finally got through a que, I was on hold for over an hour. Finally someone picks up only to tell you everything for the month is booked up. I don't know what's going on with this place, but there is something shady going on with this place. I don't know what to think of their actions. Maybe they are hooking people up in there or what? Who knows, but definitely not worth your money for the time you invest trying to get a cottage. Hopefully management sees this and does something about it. read more
