I took a 1988 Evinrude 15hp in for a new impeller installation on a Wednesday, and the owners called on Saturday saying it was ready for pickup. The nice lady at the business even sent a video to my phone showing the motor running and pumping water like new. The service was excellent and the charge very reasonable. It is hard in my area to find a business willing to work on older motors, but these folks do and it was a pleasure to work with them, I would definitely recommend them for any boating/motor need you may have. read more

To: Business Owner First, truth is a divine attribute, the first thing I was taught was to tell the truth. Why? Because no matter what the consequences you only must do it one time because there is nothing to cover up. So, to address your response to my post let's start with the truth: 1st time taking boat to Dekalb Marine for repair. 1. I brought my bought to you and your initial diagnostic test according to you was minor corrosion on some wires, you clean the wires, and the engine was running fine. a. You ran it for several hours and have video to show that the problem was fixed, and the engine was running fine. b. You call me and I immediately came the next day paid $217.00 paid the bill and took my boat home. c. You never mention to me on the initial repair of any other potential or existing problem with the motor firing or its ignition system needing any other repair. d. You never mention that the electrical wires were severely corroded. e. You did not start the boat up to show me it was running when I picked it up. 2nd visit because engine was still not starting. 2. I brought the boat home and approximately two weeks later I decided to go fishing and I attempted to start the boat as a safety precaution before I left. The boat engine was again turning over very strongly but it would not start. a. I brought the boat back immediately and explained to you that I had the same problem with the boat not starting. b. You kept the boat another two weeks and finally called and said, I that a stater or now trigger part in the ignition system under the fly wheel needed to be replaced. c. You stated the repair would be $600 plus dollars. d. I stated that because it seemed there was a misdiagnosis the first time if you would consider giving me credit some credit toward this repair and stressed, I would like for you to make the repair, but I thought it only fair to give me some credit because I had already paid $217.00. e. You stated you would but that you were just going to charge me another $200 diagnostic fee and it would still amount to over $800 plus in total repair cost. I then informed you that I was a disabled veteran and on a fixed income. 3. The only time I mentioned anything about being a disabled veteran and senior citizen was in my initial post. a. Since you did not have any knowledge of me being a disabled veteran or senior citizen until my initial post "you could not have offered me discount because of that because you had no knowledge of my military status or age". 4. The statement I felt the discount you offered because I was disabled veteran was not good enough and I wanted the work done for free. Now you want to clean it up "We support our veterans and thank you for your service" We hope you understand. 5. This is what I understood. a. You refused to give me any credit towards a misdiagnosis because when the bill was paid in full, and I was told the engine was running fine your response was "I will just add another $200 for this diagnosis and you are going to still be out of $800 plus dollars. b. I emphasized I would like to do business with you and have you to do the repair if you consider giving me a credit from the previous repair. c. You started rattling off about folk always want something for free and things are tight. d. I stated you know nothing about me or my financial situation. e. You walk off and left Thomas an employee to finish hooking the boat up. I am completely amazed at your final fabricated response. "We support our veterans and do offer a discount but there is no possible way we could stay in business if we offer our services for free to all veterans" Thank you for your service "we hope you understand". Believe me, I understand how you are fabricating your version of the incident to clean it up. So, we will let the court decide. We will see each other soon. PS. I will say this to their credit PJ and Thomas your employees were courteous and professional and the only thing I regret is having to drag them into this because of your unprofessional attitude and business practices. They ran my outboard too long without water and melted the whole God darn impeller/oil seal Then they slapped a shitload of liquid gasket on it and tried to make like it never happened. Do not bring your boat here. read more

I purchased a 1236 Jon with an older Mercury and purchased a carb rebuild kit & gas tank and was helped by PJ, Andrew & Robbie. They all were super friendly and gave me some good things to watch for with the motor. I followed suit and since have gone back for a propeller and most recently to have the water pump system cleaned and impeller replaced. After the water pump system was cleaned up, Hurricane Michael hit and the motor stand my motor was on broke and my motor took a hit but PJ has gone above and beyond to get the motor running well again and completely repaired! They also have assisted me in finding other motors and another boat recently as well! Overall, if you want superior knowledge and service on parts for your motor and boat, incredible ability to restore vintage motors, new equipment or even where a local deal on a motor or boat, look no further and go support Dekalb Marine!!! read more

This is an amazing old school repair shop. The owner, his son and the long term employees know thier boats and charge about 1/2 of what you'd pay at Allatoona and 1/3 of Lanier marina prices. Winterizing for$75, great deal, nice good old boys and fast. Love my annual visit just to remind me that there are honest, affordable folks left out there. Love these guys. read more

This place is great. These guys really know their boats and have great prices. Its a little odd to see a marine repair shop in a not so great neighborhood and nowhere near a lake. Robbie worked on my boat and did a great job. I had a twenty year old boat that had not been in water in more than two years and he got it running great. I say the prices are great, but keep in mind that it is a boat! These guys are also real nice and make me laugh every time i stop by. If your boat is on a trailer, don't waste your money on the lake! DeKalb Marine is an old school, established family business in Decatur, Georgia. If they have been in business as long as they appear to have been in business they are doing something right. They are close to where I live which made buying parts to do it myself rather easy. However, they offer full service repair. The people hear are real friendly and helpful. They took time to help me with advice on my own repair. As a novice, this was extremely helpful and something you can't get at the big marinas or chain stores. KNOWLEDGE! If they don't have the part you need, they can get it faster than the big box store. Many thanks to these guys for getting me back on the water! read more

Worst place to get you boat fix. I took my boat and took THREE WEEKS to get a diagnostic, ONE MONTH to get it "fix" . Spend $578.89 dls I took my boat to lake lanier with wife and kids guess what the boat still having the same problem. Took the boat back no refunds my boat spend 5 moths on this place and never got fix. read more
