This place could be so good, but the owner is getting in the way of the progress. Get a real bar tender and let the wait staff do their job. Get out of their way. You hire experts but it obvious that something is getting in their way and confusing things. I would love to enjoy the place, but it is clear what tbe issue is and it is someone trying to do too much and doesnt know when to step aside and trust a staff expert to do their jobs. Also, dont Iecture your patrons on who to bring and what to buy to keep your business afloat... we would be there if the tables were clean, the drinks are good and the food is consistent and the staff didnt look confused and put through a ringer. I will cut to the chase the Oxtail is fantastic fall of the bone good, the candied yams is excellent. The Mac & Cheese is only so so. The BBQ ribs is very disappointing w/ food regrets hardly any meat probably cheap cuts. The fried okra is decent not great. The fried fish is dry the beans are bland. The standard of soul food wasn't good. Service was accommodating, good. The atmosphere was dark not inviting. The host probably the owner seems slightly intoxicated but friendly. After supporting one of my Pastor friends, we decided to come to a restaurant we've never been before. We searched up places near us, and this place had 4 stars. I will just say this was a very disappointing experience. When we arrived, no one was there. When the greeter did come, she hesitantly approached us and handed us a paper printed menu in a dark, empty restaurant, which immediately felt off to us. When our food was served, several items were served cold and lacked flavor. The catfish was barely seasoned and watery, while the chicken had this "special" barbecue sauce but no taste, the Mac and cheese was straight from a box, and was gummy like, and the greens tasted super watered down. The cornbread was extremely hard, and there were white particles floating in the water. Even basic items like the salt container were unusable, sticking to the container. The owner spoke with our group and hyped the restaurant up, but the food and overall experience did not match what was coming out of his mouth. I also noticed everyone else received cornbread with their meal while I did not. Assuming it came with the meal (since me and my brother ordered the exact same thing) I was later charged an extra $6 for it without being informed. Based on the food quality and overall experience, I won't be returning. If zero stars were an option, that's what I'd give. read more

We wanted the inside lounge to celebrate a retirement party. We were told that that was reserved for another group at the same time. It was not! The whole place was empty while we had our party except for a couple of people at the bar. When the organizers got there, the owner had forgotten about us, even though, he charged 700 dollars beforehand. The tables were dirty and the organizing party had to ask him for rags and clean the tables themselves. There was no chef, we did not have the music we had asked for, and the appetizers were mediocre at best! I had been there before and liked the place hence I told my friends to use it. We came in to try their new weekend all you can eat breakfast/brunch. They weren't quite ready when we got there at 9, still setting out a few things so we grabbed some juice and waited a couple of minutes. We tried everything and the 2 things that stood out for us was their grits, which were excellent! Cheesy and creamy. Also they have great sausage gravy for their biscuits and gravy. Everyone there was friendly and welcoming, especially the owner Darryl! He was telling us about his plans with his new brunch, he made the grits. I am a disabled veteran. I have a service dog. I went there over the weekend with my wife and we were going to meet up with some friends there to watch a show but as soon as I walked in, one of the shot-callers of the establishment told me we had to sit in the patio because of my dog. I said that it was a service dog but the guy said that I still had to go to the patio. He claimed "it's the county rules, not mine" which I KNOW to be incorrect but i did not want a confrontation. I asked if we would still be able to see the show, to which he replied that we would only be able to HEAR the show. I know that my wife really wanted to see the show so I gave the patio a chance but it was filthy and the tables needed cleaning. i decided that we had to leave. Our friends met us somewhere else because one of them also had a service dog and I did not want them to feel the same discrimination. It is apparent that the establishment is NOT familiar with ADA, and the guy that sent us to the patio did not seem to appear to want to accommodate me at all. I will never go there again. read more

Deja Blue was a complete disaster. The food took 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive, came out cold, and no one at my table was served at the same time. My "smothered" pork chops were nothing but oily meat with no gravy, no mac & cheese, and no care. When I asked, the owner was rude, dismissive, and unapologetic -- he literally told me "this is how we make them." The gravy they brought was a greasy mess with chunks of beef floating in oil. Here's the current music schedule: Wednesdays 5-8pm is Jazz, Fridays R&B 12pm and on, Saturdays 3-6pm Blues, and Sundays 3-6pm Reggae with dinner. Took the lady out to Monterey from the sf Bay Area for her b day. We had a nice time. On her actual birthday I looked around for spots and saw Deja blue. A Soul food jazz club. I told her about it and she was excited. I thought maybe that night would be live music. We were there on a Wednesday night. Walked in the establishment, music was playing but no live band though. We were told to sit where ever we wanted too. The owner Daryl not sure if I'm spelling his name correctly took our order. He was really chill. We got drinks I got a pineapple mule and the ms got the club special the Deja blue. We ordered our food and had our drinks. I must admit that Deja blue drink is really really good. That was his signature drink. It was something special. Our food came out I got the ribs,potato salad and red beans. She got the ox tails, greens and yams it came with corn bread. I like to be honest I Wasn't a huge fan of the corn bread, not saying it was bad just different. But the rest of our food was really good. It disappeared.that morning for breakfast. This is a real chill spot. We unfortunately missed jazz fest out there. I can tell on the weekends if I stayed out that way this would be my go to spot for music and food. I was visiting from out of town and saw them advertised salsa dancing at 930pm. It was both advertised on eventbrite AND their instagram. I got there on time and the bouncer told me there was a private event and that the time was pushed until 10pm. I decided to go back to my hotel to freshen up. I came back at 10pm and still saw the private event going. The bouncer told me it was the last song and to go in and pay the $15. I ended up sitting for almost an HOUR while the party continued. I finally went up to the front and asked what was happening. I asked if they were still having salsa night or the class but the guy up front (I'm assuming the owner) basically laughed in my face and said "I don't know who told you there would be a salsa class"....I said I spoke with someone directly from their instragram confirming the salsa class and the bouncer out front confirmed it. This establishment needs to be more communicative with their staff and especially their customers. I graciously gave it 2 stars because I asked for my money back and was given it back but with an attitude. Sorry but I'm not spending my money to sit and watch an event of a family party go on.
