My family and I stopped here before our visit to the Vatican. It was delicious and perfect. The food came out quickly and right in the pan at that so it kept warm. What I really liked personally is that they immediately gave us all plates for bread / sharing and the olive oil/salt. I noticed many other places here give this upon request. The carbonara was so delicious and creamy and the portion was quite generous. The Marsala was also good, with a wine forward taste and side of potatoes. Felt like I walked into my Italian grandparent's house and I'm Asian. It's open, warm, inviting and spacious. The owners and their staffs were very attentive and friendly 10/10. Can't even explain the hospitality we got at Dei Musei. We were exhausted after our time at the Vatican, and wanted a beer and pasta. Stumbled upon Dei Musei, and ordered delicious pasta that came on pans!! Beer was delicious, espresso post meal was just what we needed. Afterwards, our waiter came with a "present", we got a full bowl of apricots and cherries and a whole bottle of limoncello. Then mama Maria came and gave us a piece of cake. They were so kind we stayed even longer, to be presented with a whole nother bottle of limoncello. We toured the Vatican for almost 3 hours. Walked our legs off and were dying to get to a restaurant to get some food and relax. Everything was busy, but we did get a table at Dei Musei after a 5 minute wait. Unfortunately, we got no service after a lengthy wait and left for a restaurant a few doors down. Mostly tourists but also some locals. The feel is so homey. Must be the owner was there talking to customers and working with the wait staff. For starters had the bruschetta. The best we've had anywhere. The tomatoes were super farm fresh. Bread had olive oil and garlic. Dishes are serve in frying pans. The Parmesan was so fresh. We also had caprese salad, pasta gricia, saltimbocca alla romana and scalloping al vino bianco. For dessert we had the napoleon. They gave us grappa on the house after the dessert and coffee. We were starving and was in the mood for some italian pasta after touring the museum. Found this restaurant through yelp and glad we visited it. We were greeted by the lovely and jolly Maria, and was served by Giovani . Our server recommended amatricianl and carbonara which were both delicious. We were even given free second entree. We had a blast there. The chef took our orders... perhaps he was the owner as well. We ordered pizza & salad... but he brought a big bowl of ragu with sausage & vegetables... it was very tasty. After that he poured us glasses of wine that we didn't even order. He also gave us a scrumptious napoleon cake & also lemon cello shots afterwards. They didn't even charge us for those... it seems like they wanted us to try them. Service was amazing. . Very generous of them... and they were so happy doing so. This is one of the best restaurants we have EVER eaten in, anywhere !. The people there are wonderful and the food is to die for. "Mama" as we call her is wonderful. Nice locally owned and operated streetside bistro. It was extremely busy when we showed up...without reservations. The host made every effort to get us seated within 15 min. After seating, we seemed to disappear from their radar. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, a waiter finally came and took our drink orders and left us menus. What started out badly, I'm happy to say, was redeemed by extraordinary service. They brought us lemoncello on the house. The food...yes the food...a varied authentic menu. We ordered a natural pizza with prosciutto and pasta pomodoro in a wonderful sauce. Our lunch was outstanding, better still, were the glasses of their house red wine to top it off. To complete the meal, they brought us pieces of lemon cake for dessert, on the house! All in all I recommend this restaurant for a street lunch when visiting Rome!! read more

Unfortunately one of the worst meals we had in Italy. We ordered the carbonara and lasagna. The carbonara sauce was more reminiscent of scrambled eggs as it was overcooked, it was not smooth at all. The lasagna sauce was very tomato forward and the lasagna noodles were overcooked to mush. It tasted like chef boyaradee. We also ordered the scallopine al limone was absolutely dreadful, think expired pork chops. Three small and thin pieces for 12 euros. I have no words. I would never ever come back. 0/5. read more

My family and I had such a wonderful experience here! The staff made for such a fun time. There was one server, in particular, he must be one of the owners or something. He was cracking jokes and just having a good time with every table. My sister was even fanning herself at one point because she was hot (it was 95 outside) and he came up to her, grabbed her fan, and started fanning her. It was so funny the people around us even had a good laugh. The food here was cheap considering the restaurant is right next to a major tourist spot. While it wasn't the most incredible food I had in Italy, it was still delicious and the portions were large. If I'm ever back in Rome I'll definitely be back! read more

Went there super hungry after spending the entire morning touring St. Peter's Basilica AND the Vatican Museum (Note: Don't do it in a row... break it up) so we just went to this place that had decent ratings. We still had to wait a bit but got to sit outside and vibe was good albeit a bit rowdy with random explosion of claps and cheers from a big group inside mostly of young Italian dudes just coming up with endless excuses to celebrate and chug. Interesting sight at 2pm weekday, hmm. I've been wanting to have cacio e peppe, the black pepper cream pasta, and they served it up in this cool beat up pan and honestly, we were not that impressed with the taste... it was just cream pasta with pepper. No false advertising there... I guess I was just expecting a bit more from what Italians eat day in, day out. However the waiter hooked us up with shots of limoncello which, was quite strong esp. for my wife who looked like she was gonna breathe fire. Me on the other hand was grinning at random people. It's an average restaurant that's probably slightly overpriced being next to Vatican City. You can plan better, but it was def. harder to find good quality eateries right around this ultimate tourist attraction. read more

Visited this Hidden Gem after visiting the Vatican today. We have eaten at other restaurants around the area before visiting here. The atmosphere, food, and service was amazing. Our hostess/Chef Maria, made great suggestions for our meal. "FORGET the Bruschetta" she told me. Order the Sausage entree and Pomodoro pasta to share. The BEST Italian food you could ever enjoy in your life. The Tiramisu was not like any other that you have tasted before. The Lemoncello (free) was an added bonus. Bravo for an Awesome Meal. If I could give 6 stars, I would! This place was AMAZING! AMAZING food, AMAZING service, AMAZING vibes. After a long day at the Vatican, we stopped this place for a late lunch. We were starving and as a group of four, we shared two pastas. I would say we could've crushed another actually, but I would recommend ordering more and sharing them as they come in large pans to share! We ordered amatriciana and pomodoro pastas, they were both great! They gave us free watermelon slices and limoncello shots! It was a great experience with very friendly service! The best pizza that I've had in Rome! I loved the super thin crust and the generous amount of prosciutto and salami on top of the tasty sauce. It was large enough for the two of us to share. The owner/manager...tall guy with a grey beard...made us feel right at home. They offered large wedges of melon free of charge at the end of our meal. They also brought a bottle of lemoncello to top it all off. Those were nice touches. The restaurant is an easy walk from the Vatican. Fortunately it doesn't seem to draw too many tourists. read more

If you are allowed to rate 0/5, I would. I am really unsure what the ratings other people gave were based off of. It had bad service took a long time to get seated even if theres many tables open The lasagne tastes like canned chef boyardee and was the worst lasagne I had in 2 weeks in 4 italian cities. Same goes for the carbonara. It was clearly cooked too hot it tasted like spaghetti and scrambled eggs. There was little to none meat, bacon or panchetta. If you were lucky enough to taste the meat it was off putting and was a leathery overcured flavored that seemed expired. Hopefully the other raters reevalute their ratings because this was a huge disappointment, having come here for its 4.5/5 rating. I guess we all have bad days, so maybe the chef today is just bad read more

They were happy to bring olive oil (high quality!), great Parmesan, pepper & crushed pepper upon request. Pasta was brought out in the pan! Excellent. We highly recommend this place and will visit again when we are in Rome. 10/10 lasagna- lots of layers with the perfect amount of meat and cheese. The place prefers cash, but saw them taking a credit card for a family party; probably willing when check is higher. We love this restaurant. The food is delicious and there are so many comfort food options. The highlight for us is the customer service that Maria and Julio (siblings) provide. What a charming restaurant near the Vatican! My family of four stumbled upon this gem as a recommendation from our Bagbnb host. She shared that it was a restaurant owned by a brother and sister, and that the recipes were passed down by their grandmother. We were lucky in that we were seated right away upon arriving at 1pm, and given bread and water as a starter. We ordered a bottle of wine, and perused over the menu which was extremely reasonably priced for such attentive service! Our food orders included Lasagna and the Funghi Pizza. The Lasagna was absolutely divine, 14 layers of noodles and a meat sauce like you've never had before. The Funghi Pizza was a bit on the dry side, and wouldn't recommend it. For dessert, we were so surprised that they brought us tangerines, home made sweet bread, walnuts and limoncello to share - absolutely free! This was the most hospitable restaurant I've been to in Rome, with the most memorable food. A perfect place to eat before seeing the Vatican! read more

I miss this place already! Our group was outside Dei Musei trying to decide what place to dine at since there was a restaurant in every corner when Maria came out and greeted us. She quickly accommodated our group of 7. The waiters were very attentive and kind. They took our orders and brought out bread, drinks and our food fast. The pastas and Pizza were the best. We tried other places during the week everyday while we visited for 4 days and none compared to Dei Museis flavor. We came back everyday. Maria is a wonderful host and she even reopened the restaurant for us when we tried dining after 3 (most restaurants in Rome close from 3-6 and reopen). She whipped up pastas and pizzas quickly and really catered to us and brought out fruit and dessert and limoncello on the House. We have never experienced this kind of service and great food. I went here back in the Spring of 2017. I remember it so fondly that I never want to go back because I am afraid it will not live up to the amazing memory I have of it! I would recommend it to anybody visiting Rome. The hospitality of the owners and the staff was top tier. They were so friendly and welcoming, they made us feel like family. If I remember correctly they gave everybody free limoncello, dessert, and surprisingly everybody in the restaurant did a free champagne toast with a full glass of champagne. They ran out of lasagna while I was there and anytime somebody ordered lasagna, the whole restaurant would yell "LASAGNA" which sounds silly now but it was so fun at the time. The food was very good, not the best food I have ever had, but by far the best atmosphere and most fun I have ever had during a meal at a restaurant. That is what made this restaurant so great. I remember smiling and thoroughly enjoying the experience the whole time. Highly Recommended. Do yourself a favor and please have a meal here. read more

This place has great food, large portions and affordable prices. Our pastas arrived, made to order, in pans prepared just for us (see my review of the awful Cafe Vaticano for why this is significant). They also provided small snacks of olives, prosciutto, cheese and bread while we waited. The restaurant took credit cards and no cover charge. Our meal for lunch followed a tour of the Vatican Museum. During our visit, there were 9 newly ordained priests and their families celebrating the priests' first holy mass-- a really special occasion for them, their families and eventually us. The newly ordained priests, from around the world, blessed the restaurant staff and then offered blessings to each table. It was a very special moment. The staff was very friendly and made sure we understood what was going on for this occasions (which was later confirmed by the English speaking priests).
