When looking for schools I really kept in mind the culture because even though I fell in love with BJJ at 10th, I was really turned off by the atmosphere, relationships, and just overall attitudes. I'm sure the negative, sexist, homophobic undertones negatively impacted by training. It wasn't a kind place to be so I wanted to find somewhere that was welcoming, warm. I found that at Aesthetic Temple. They were brand new when I moved back and have grown so much. Being there is like stepping into your house - it's home! I'm learning to train gi and continuing with my no-gi training. Classes are challenging but fun. You'll laugh as much as you learn and work up a sweat with some awesome teammates. Professor Mike is understanding, patient, knowledgable and SO passionate about what he does. I love his holistic philosophy and constant guidance. His wife, Mindy, is supportive and encouraging. It's really a family effort and I love coming in to train everyday! So glad I found AT and can't wait to continue my education and grow as a jj student.
