We came back again and I wanted to document some updates. First of all, make sure to get the nacho cheese sticks - basically deep fried nacho cheese breaded with crushed tortilla chips. These might be the most innovative thing since text messaging. Second, we tried the breakfast... as appetizers (this group loves to eat) and it was a success. We loved it. I still warn against the chopped mutton [paste], but most of the other BBQ is tasty. read more

I went there because the have cornbread hash. It was very good. Wife had a omelet which was mostly cheese. The only down fall cleanliness.. including the 1950 curtains that haven't been straighten since 1960. With the 5 people standing around and talking, you would think someone would take the initiative. This is our 2nd trip for the Best Breakfast in Owensboro! Sometimes you just want to eat a southern stick to your ribs kind of breakfast that fills your belly plum full. This IS that place. Pancakes, omelets and hash browns are extra large portions. Fresh, hot and quickly served that tastes great all with an economical price. Open Daily 5am - 2pm. I was ready for a big country breakfast. That is what I ordered. Omelet tasted like old grease. The country potatoes were soggy but plentiful. The bright spot was the biscuit. I realize that Sunday's are busy and the 35 min wait for the three people ahead seemed a bit long but after we placed our order I asked the waittress about the 1 hour and ten minute delay in getting our food and she said that our order was sent to the kitchen at such-and-such a time, which was 42 minutes after we gave it to her. I had an appointment after breakfast so I was time conscientious. Then, we did not get our food for another 39 minutes and the waitress was very nasty about it. All that was ordered was one omelet, not a gourmet meal! Not so sure this is the place for you unless you have three hours to kill for breakfast. read more

Do not mistake this as a bbq joint, I believe that must be an old name. It is a traditional diner with low prices and huge portions. Worst place in town Honestly if I could give this place 0 stars I would; went in with a couple of friends and the waitress got our order wrong. On top of that there was cigarette ashes on the plates like someone had got ashes in our food and just blew them off. Great southern fried cooking! Their potato salad and BLT's are amazing. They close at 2 so it's a perfect spot for breakfast and brunch. They have a bigger room in the back which is perfect for groups. So if your in Owensboro, definitely check them out. read more

Dee's was a hit and a miss for us. My traveling companion ordered the pork barbecue and it was...almost okay. I don't know what wood they're using to smoke with, but it definitely isn't my top choice. The meat was dry and chewy and sauce didn't help much. I'd avoid it. On the other hand, I had a long and (ultimately very) helpful chat with the waitress who recommended the meatloaf (I don't eat meatloaf; too many childhood flashbacks), and then the chicken fried steak. I went with the chicken fried steak, and it was fantastic. As was the squash casserole she insisted I try. The chicken fried steak had the requisite crispy outside, and the steak itself was tender and flavorful. The squash casserole was an unexpected treat. They make it with fresh summer squash, sour cream, ritz crackers, and some kind of secret cheesiness that I couldn't figure out. I think the moral to the story is this: If your waitress at a barbecue joint recommends everything except the barbecue, listen to her. read more

Wow, this was one of the worst meals I've ever had. This service was very good, but she was handicapped with serving lousy food. The BBQ mutton was dry and had minimal BBQ flavor, corn was not sweet and in fact, VERY bland, and the green beans mushy. Whomever makes the sweet tea gets a pat on the back: well done. We stopped in this morning with a group of 15 people at 8 a.m. The staff could have not been more helpful in seating us all in the same area at the food was outstanding. If you've not tried the large pancake, bring two or three people and order it. Omelettes biscuits French toast, everyone enjoyed their meal! Yum! This place is a bit of a dive, but we were there for the food and that was excellent. My husband had a sliced beef bbq sandwich plus a big bowl of burgoo with corn bread and said everything was delicious. I had my favorite diner meal, a grilled cheese with bacon and fries, and have been craving it ever since. All the servings were big, probably more than we should have eaten; but it was so good there was no stopping us. The service was a little hands-off but friendly. We both ate for about half of what it would have cost at the better known bbq place in town. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in O'boro. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on the way out of town. We were completely impressed. It is a wonder how this place stays in business, given the low prices and huge portions of their delicious food. For around $8, you can get a coffee, two enormous pancakes, sausage links, thick-cut bacon cooked to a perfect crisp, biscuits and gravy, grits and hashbrowns. And this place doesn't try to pass a pre-cut processed potato product as a hashbrown- they serve the real thing. I give four stars instead of five because, for me, the perfect breakfast includes real cream for the coffee and real butter for the pancakes. This place serves a butter spread and ultra-pasteurized half and half packets. Not at all a big deal or a surprise, however. I should also mention that the service was slow and not as friendly as what is custom in Owensboro. However, the value for the money is excellent and the breakfast is likely the best in town. We will definitely be back to Dee's. read more
