Charming, efficient and local. Pulled into this spot looking for a neighborhood bagel place that wouldn't take long before hopping back onto the NJ turnpike. At initial onset, the exterior seems very basic and barebones. But the interior offered way more- flavored coffee syrups, ample menu options, and delightful service. The owner clearly works hard and does his best to make you happy. A notice about family / community support is also posted on the wall which I really appreciate it. Stopped in for breakfast on an early Saturday morning for the first time. it's a cute little family owned shop with some fun decor on the walls, it had a homey vibe and the owner was very pleasant. We got everything bagels (one with scallion cream cheese and one with egg and cheese) and they had a good amount of flavor to them. The outside structure had a good crunch to it although the inside was a little cakier Vs the chewy texture I prefer. Still, good experience and a solid local stop for a quick breakfast! read more

Stoped in here for a quick bite. The place was well kept and the prices were dead on. We both got a bagel one butter and one cream cheese. They were good. The gentleman behind the counter was great. And there was older gent having a bite with coffee or tea. Had a nice chat. Def a spot to stop into and give it a try. I'm a bagel snob so they were decent. Friendly, attentive service. Bagels were pretty much sold out, however, the one I had was very good. Reasonable prices, less costly than the awful, IMO, Bazaar down the road. I should've walked out when I saw how dirty it looked behind the counter. Second clue to leave, was when the man walked out from the back with a filthy hoodie on. Only bagels that looked fresh were plain, so I asked for it toasted with cream cheese. He put the bagel in the toaster for 30 seconds before adding the cream cheese. Bagel was still cold. I told him this and he said but it was in the toaster. At this point, I just want to pay and leave. Thank God I opened it up before eating it. First time in this bagel shop. Small little quaint place. I was greeted by a sweet and vibrant woman. I glanced around and noticed a few tables and chairs spread out decently. A beverage station from one end to the other for all your drinking needs. Hot and cold. Extensive but simple menu. This place was very clean and organized. I went for a simple bagel with cream cheese and lox..had a hankering. Prices are reasonable and affordable. Had a wonderful conversation with the woman behind the counter while she was making my deliciousness. Small selection of flavored bagels but imo all the good flavors. A selection of flavored cream cheese and such. Breakfast sandwiches, burgers, wraps, etc. Definitely going to be on my list. Since I refuse to go to the other one in the other strip mall..yucky..bagel was delcious, onion bagel, scallion cream cheese and lox. There were enough people going in and out that I thought I would give this place a try. I ordered the special in the window (bacon cheeseburger and fries). I just ordered an egg on a roll and a cup of coffee. I really like Mom & Pop places rather then the cookie cutter places. I had a good vibe when I walked in because it was a small owner business. The egg on a roll was fine as well as the coffee. One thing kind of turned me off. When the other couple went for a coffee refill, the man at the counter yelled out "REFILLS"! On the way out I stopped by the coffee station to get a cover for my single cup. I was hoping he didn't think I was sneaking out on the 50 refill charge. Horrible experience as there was something wrong with everything I ordered: For starters my mom found a few hairs in the eggs of her sandwich. The hash browns were too greasy as was the pork roll and I was given a sesame seed roll which was stale when when I ordered a poppy seed roll. Bait & Switch advertising by this place. I got a roast beef & provolone on rye with a small bottle of water cost $9.10. No chips. When I questioned the total she said she had fixed it by taking off .50 cents which means she really wanted to bill $9.60 for a simple sandwich and bottle of water. Another thing is that they don't wear gloves or hair net so I was praying they washed their hands but now that I think of it Dee went from vacuuming the floor to making my sandwich and I don't think I can say that she did wash her hands. I have to agree with the other posts about the hygiene of the place. I had an egg and cheese on bagel. It had a bad taste. I ate like two bites and trashed it. BURNT BAGELS Let me began this review by stating that this customer acknowledges and takes responsibility for mistakenly pushing a button on the decaf coffee machine that resulted in an unfortunate coffee spill. In turn, as requested by the counter server, full restitution was made without question. In no way whatsoever is it the intention of this review to diminish the erroneous coffee spill or the clean up that ensued, however, the unprofessional public rant displayed by the counter server that followed the coffee spill was totally unwarranted and highly insensitive to a member in my party, my mother, an elderly 85 year old fragile woman suffering from dementia. To be called out in public for this honest mistake by the counter server stating that "you have been caught on camera" was categorically unnecessary. Needless to say, the counter server's highly discourteous behavior caused my mother's level of anxiety, stress and fear to greatly elevate.  Her behavior was especially alarming since Dee's Bagel Cafe is located in a community, Monroe Township, that a plethora senior, elderly residents call home. To employ such an extremely disdainful approach was simply appalling. Certainly, the counter server had other options to express her concerns in a more discreet, private manner. Sadly, while on the phone, the counter server chose to shout from behind the counter across the dining room to where my Mother and I were seated.   Having worked since my time in middle school, I clearly understand that all sorts of challenges are tackled each and every day while on the job. However, unequivocally, there is no place for these barbaric tactics in the workplace. This type of modus operandi must cease immediately by not tolerating the same. Moving forward, it is my sincerest hope that the counter server receives proper professional customer service training to help her amend her Neanderthal customer service skills. In this day and age where customers have many establishments to choose from to purchase a bagel and coffee, readers of this review are encouraged to choose wisely. Before closing, please allow me to comment on the quality of the bagels. In short, as we were attempting to eat our bagels in the dining room, the counter server proclaimed to other customers who had entered Dee's Bagel Cafe that all of the "bagels were burnt". not coming back here. food was fine, it was the transaction at the register that was unacceptable. i was told 8.83 for my total. i give the woman my credit card, she processes the sale and i see on the receipt i was charged 9.33. i ask her why it's different and she tells me "the machine automatically charges 50 cents on credit card transactions under $10." okay, first i really question her claim that the machine automatically tacked on an additional 50 cents, I'm pretty sure she is the one who punches the amount with the keypad. regardless, she failed to tell me additional fees before running the transaction. you just don't do that, it is the merchant's responsibility to inform the customer of any differences in price. At the end of the day I don't care about $0.50. All she had to do was tell me beforehand, or maybe have a sign posted that there's a fee for credit card transactions under $10. But the fact that she charged me something different than what she had told me is completely unacceptable. I'm pretty sure it's illegal too. In addition to this, I am offended that she would claim that the machine automatically charges $0.50 when I believe that is completely bogus. read more

Went in for a few sandwiches --when the guy went in the back to make them -- with no gloves on-- I noticed the pretzels and some tastycakes were expired-- not by a day or two-- expired by months! I then asked the deli clerk if the turkey he was cutting had a use by date. He remarked, "I cut if off". Great experience with this place. My family and I came in from out of town and had to put together a last minute spread for a funeral. Not only was John able to pull together a beautiful spread but all of our friends and family from out of town and local raved about how delicious everything was. When we revealed who catered, the locals were pleasantly surprise that the food was from Dee's! My father interacted with John directly and was greatly impressed with the care he put into everything from the way he slices the bagels to sit just right on the platter to suggesting a few items that weren't even listed on the menu. He even delivered and set everything up for us, making a difficult day for our family a little bit easier. Overall, I give this place 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone. read more

I went to Dee's because the sandwich shop next door was closed on Sundays. One of the items I ordered was an Italian sub - my go-to order for any sub place. I don't even know how to describe how bad it was. The meat just didn't taste the way it was supposed too. Almost like it was sitting out or it was old...not sure. Aside from that, it took quite a long time for my order and there was also some confusion over prices at the register. While I was there, a lot of people came in ordering various types of egg/cheese/bagel combos. Those were made pretty quickly. I would not go back here ever again. read more
