I've stayed on spider, clear and rest lakes but this is the best so far, the cabins are clean and well maintained, somewhat rustic due to the lack of a/c and TV, but hey that's what we come here for. The family that owns the resort sends us a Christmas letter every year to keep us updated on the happenings around town and they are always available to help guests out when needed around the resort. Included in the price of your cabin you get a very nice aluminum row boat and in case you don't have an engine or boat you brought with, outboard engines are available to rent at a fair and reasonable price to get you going around the lake. Wild rice is the perfect lake for a vacationing family because it is never crowded and due to the fact the local indian reservation owns 75 percent of the frontage on the lake it is always quiet with little to no boat traffic, great for skiing and water fishing. I definitely recommend this resort for families wanting a relaxing escape but also priced reasonably enough for any group of friends seeking a get away. Book early! Reservations sometimes fill up a year in advance and they have been in business since the 40's!

We attended a family wedding at the Red Crown Lodge recently. It was a lovely affair in a beautiful…read moresetting. But there were a number of flaws that fall short of a five star rating. The biggest downside was the setting of the ceremony. The lake in the background was stunning, but the seating was all a tilt. Not a single seat was level and the seats in the rear were lower than the seats in front. It was also a difficult venue for the elderly and infirm. If the couple selected this location I would excuse the venue, but as I walked around the grounds I didn't see a better setting for the number of guests in attendance. At least the setting for the dinner was level. And it was a tasty dinner. I don't know if the Red Crown kitchen provides the food or if it is catered in. I'm assuming it was prepared by the Red Crown staff so I'll critique it in my review. The dinner was an up north "surf & turf." The steak was tender and well seasoned. The seasoned crumbs on the walleye filet worked taste wise but were not as crisp as they should be (however probably as crisp as they could be when serving over a hundred plates). The fish itself was not over cooked or under cooked and therefore it was moist and flaky. The sides (potato and veggies) were well cooked and properly seasoned. It was certainly one of the best wedding dinners I've had lately--but keep in mind that Wisconsin is the home of "broasted" chicken wedding reception meals (and as a retired preacher I've lost count of how many times I've eaten greasy fried chicken). The other Red Crown amenities were also very nice. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres were served an a stunning lodge constructed with north woods logs and timbers. The bartenders were capable and able to mix anything you asked for. The Red Crown offers several signature drinks including a unique "old fashioned" that my wife reports was "very good." I can be picky with my reviews and I'm stingy with my stars, but I have to conclude be saying that north of the 45° parallel in Wisconsin, the Red Crown is as good as it gets.

The grounds were well kept with a lot of activities to do just within the grounds itself. The cabin we stayed in had a great view of the lake and a screened in porch, which was great to relax on. Our cabin had a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room area and was very clean and comfortable. The owners were also very personable and helpful with resort information as well as area information. Would definitely return to this resort.

The cabin was very clean and nicely accented with Northwoods touches. There was a guide book in the cabin that explained everything you could imagine doing in the area - a great resource! Each cabin has their own dock and campfire pit complete with comfortable adirondack chairs and free firewood. There is plenty of yard space for activities, and each cabin has a picnic table and charcoal grill. We were able to spend time on the water using the kayaks, canoes, and rowboats that are available at the resort. The resort is located close to town - just a few miles from Manitowish Waters. The resort has a variety of bikes available to guests, so we grabbed some one morning and biked into town to enjoy coffee at the local coffee shop. Manitowish Waters also has a grocery store and lots of great restaurants. The area is also known for its bike trails - there is a scenic, winding (and paved!) bike trail that runs through Manitowish Waters that you can take to the nearby town of Boulder Junction and beyond. Our experience was superb! The cabin is a great value for the location and quality. Would highly recommend as an awesome place to bring your whole family to make great memories. So many activities and fun things to do! We are already planning our return visit. Make your reservations early because they do book up quickly.

We started coming here as a family in 2010, and our daughter was just married here, so it's been a part of our family for a long time. Originally we had 15 in our group, but with COVID it ended up only being 5 of us that went. Dillman's was accommodating and allowed us to remain in the annex by ourselves even with a small group. They also did a good job with establishing extra cleaning procedures and resort policies to alleviate concerns surrounding COVID/social distancing. The accommodations were nice and what you expect for a Northwoods cabin getaway. Not too many frills, but that's the charm we were after. The only two drawbacks were that the electric stove top was erratic so cooking meals took longer than we hoped and the Wi-Fi signal was spotty around the lodge which made it a little more challenging to check-in with the family back home (given the circumstances, lodge access was limited). The lake is absolutely beautiful and fairly easy to traverse with the small boats we rented from the resort. There was a plethora of different structure/depth around the lake for catching a variety of fish, and we saw both anglers and recreational boaters enjoying the water. We had a little trouble with one of the boat motors during our stay, but Dillman's was fair in not charging us for it. The three little nuances are the only reason this review isn't 5 stars. Lastly, I just want to say the resort staff (mostly family I believe) was very friendly and good, genuine people. I would definitely recommend Dillman's and will be making this our annual spot!
