I was very fortunate to be able to get a colonscopy appointment with Dr. Hussein Al-Hamid so quickly. Was I thrilled I was still discriminated against for being single and being told that I HAD to have a driver pick me up and it could not be Uber/Lyft, or a taxi? No, no I was not. It was suggested possibly a medical transport could be a possibility but that was a suggestion, not a confirmation. While staff investigated that for me, I made multiple phone calls to get quotes for medical transport. As an ambulatory person, round trip of approx. 30 miles, quotes ranged from $150 - $192, whereas Uber/Lyft with the ability to also track the person in the vehicle and additional safety measures in place would be $50-$60 round trip. But, circumstances such as they are, I found a friend to ask to come pick me up. My kvetching and feelings of discrimination aside, check in was a breeze. Staff was very nice and friendly.
This is run extremely efficiently. It's pretty much assembly line how they get it done but the care is there. There are signs everywhere "foam in, foam out," and something else that I can't recall. The procedure itself doesn't take long, the recovery is 20-ish mins and then out the door. They have called me no less than twice to check on me and sent messages via "my chart" to make sure everything is OK.
While still extremely salty about having to impose on someone else to pick me up, I am glad I had the procedure done here. I am more happy about the fact that everything was upfront and there was no duplicity or encouragement to falsify documents.
Dr. Al-Hamid came by after the procedure and gave me a quick run down of what he observed and had a recommendation for me for another Dr. I took him up on that recommendation and already have an appointment scheduled for next week with that Dr.
Overall, my feelings aside, I am happy to have had it done. I genuinely appreciated the time and care the nurses took to try to get to know me to make the process as smooth and as painless as possible. If you have to have a colonoscopy done, and honestly, we all should, I would recommend Dr. Hussein Al-Hamid. read more
