On a random Friday off, my husband and I decided to go to Deer Run for a lunch date. Highly recommend it. The wine was good, especially the Chardonnay as it was unoaked. This is one of my favorite wineries. I stopped here on a Sunday with my parents to grab some of their delicious dry rose and do a tasting, etc. I used to be part of the wine club, and inquired about joining again, but the woman who first helped us out was not really helpful. She told me I should email the owner to rejoin and provided no otjer information. The second woman who started pouring the tastings and talking to us was a delight, and I probably should have asked her. She was young, had long brunette hair and recommended some restaurants in the area and also had a great personality. I went with a glass of dry rose, my stepdad had a couple glasses that he enjoyed and my mom liked her tasting and glass of wine. It was a great, friendly experience. We walked out of there with another case of wine. They have a great outdoor space as well, and a pavilion for weddings and events. It is a beautiful location. read more

They have a great "Bistro" menu, with fun, shareable appetizers (the Brie is incredible), and also flatbreads, burgers, wraps, and big salads. I had a groupon for Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Tasting so we went this weekend. The weather was crappy but Deer Run Winery atmosphere was warm and friendly! We had the upstairs loft all to ourselves. Jeremy was awesome and attentive! He was funny and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. For the tasting they bring you a board of cheese and chocolate, then pair the wines with the chocolates. There were 6 wines to try going from dry white to semi sweet red. We've gone here several times for Thursday concerts. The winery produces some good wines leaning longer on the sweet side. We've have found the dry Riesling as our go to. The winery is cute and offers local snacks and crafts. They have established themselves as the go to place for quint concerts throughout the summer on Thursdays. Along with the music are different food trucks on those Thursdays. They have a large tent for less desirable weather. A few picnic tables are around. Not nearly enough for the crowd. Most folks bring their own chairs and many bring a small folding table. You can purchase a bottle, that they will open and supply small plastic glasses. Taking the bottle and food to our chairs, we sit back and listen to the concert. A great way to spend a Thursday night! read more

Marie was not only kind, but she was so knowledgeable about the wine and the area as a whole. She guided us through the wine tasting while sharing plenty of tips to get the most out of my trip to the Rochester area. First winery of 2018...since we bought the travel wine card we chose this place along with another winery nearby. The other place was closed so this was it for the day. But what I loved is that they not only had wine but also bourbon to taste...just what my hubby likes. Wine tastings are free, 6 can be chosen. There is a charge for the dessert wine and $5 chg for bourbon tastings. Really nice options for everyone. All the wines we tried were very good. There was not one we didn't like. But we bought the Vignoles and Pebble Beach. Great tastes. My husband tried 3 bourbon, maple, smoked and creamy. His favorite was the smoked. I liked the creamy bourbon it's like Kahlua. The people pouring our drinks were very friendly and personable but also showed an interest in everyone who came. That makes the visit much more enjoyable. They did mention that they have concerts in the summer. So this may be another opportunity to come back. And enjoy the outdoors with more wine! read more

Went to Deer Run Winery for our 22nd anniversary dinner last night. All i can say is "WOW"... for everything! The ladies at the tasting bar were wonderful and fun to chat with, and our waitress Beki (I know I'm getting the spelling wrong... it is pronounced Becky) was the best! Even the chef popped out of the kitchen to check in with the patrons when he had a free second. We also had a great discussion with the winemaker, Scott, about his new vodka and immature brandy selections. And then came dinner. What an incredible experience! The food is absolutely wonderful... from the soup and salad, to the warm, fresh made breads with honey butter, to the entrees, and the wine was perfect. My hubby got the Crab & Shrimp stufffed Haddock and I got their Braised Short Ribs. Absolute perfection! Everything tasted so good that we ate too much and couldn't fit in dessert. I guess we will have to go back again for wine and desserts! Oh!! and to try the 4 flavors of wine slushies! I can't wait! Deer Run is a winery that's mostly unknown to the masses, and that is unfortunate. Having went to college just down the road, I wasn't aware myself of Deer Run's existence until a few years after graduating. They are located in "Geneseo," on the west bank of Conesus lake, it's the furtherest West of the finger lakes wineries and a short drive from Rochester. First off, they have free tasting(yes)! The two times I've been there, they were pretty relaxed when it's come to quantity as well. The tasting sheet said 6-7 tastings. Excellent. They have a good range of wine not only between white to red but also dry to sweet. I'm sure you'll be able to find something here that you'll enjoy. Their Runway Red and Water Tower White are table wines that will be suitable for most palates. Being still a relatively young winery, having opened only in 2003, Deer Run will only get better with time. They have also had a lot of events recently at their wineries like concerts, an up coming cigar event and when we were there they were set up for a wedding. Enjoy some great wine and head down to the lake. read more
