This is the largest park in North Vernon and offers lots of shelters and camping opportunities. In…read morethe center, there are sports fields (basketball, volleyball, soccer) and playgrounds (note that many of the shelters have either a slide or swingset close by.) The park also has a lot of hills, so the hiking around can provide a nice challenge. There are also a number of places to view the river as it winds through the park. Specific to the baseball fields, they are nice enough and situated in a single area. Backstops behind home plate are very short and infields are turf. Probably can host tournaments up to 15u if I had to guess, beyond that hitters will be bombing over the fence. Specific to the camping, they have a lot of amenities and but the looks of the available parking spaces, they must pack them in. Again, not here for the camping.

No matter if you, your child, someone else's child misbehaves or is out riding their bikes (AFTER DARK 8pm) .... he just might come at you PHYSICALLY and verbally aggressive, without 100% certain of the details. Terrible to act this way as a Manager. They start at dark (around 8pm) with sending out security to make sure you are absolutely not out riding bike, scooters, golf carts... you name it. You are to be at your campsite, by 11p. If you have a big group, be aware, you will be babysat. Even if walking on foot to the restroom, you just might be stopped and asked what you are doing. Make sure you READ the rules. If you are someone who wants to go without a big group, enjoy the outdoors before dark (8PM), and in bed at your site by 11p. This is your place. By reading other reviews, if your place is big on advertising for families, especially sporting events. I would hope you would relax a little, especially when it comes to children and innocent entertainment. We will not be returning. Happy Camping!!

The campsites are very affordable with clean restrooms and secluded location. There is paddle boating, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. There are four playgrounds for the kids and also a nice beach area with picnic tables to spend a day in the sun and lake. We also love the horseback stables! It's a tad pricy - $25 a person for 1 hour or $60 a person for 3 hours ( def recommend the 3 hour trek, it offers way more of an option to gallop gently and see what the horse can offer beyond a slow walk. ) While I highly recommend Erica as a guide - she was friendly but didn't interfere with our personalized experience of riding - I would frown if Courtney was our guide again. She advised she was a volunteer but she rode behind us very closely and kept barking orders, whistling, talking, singing, and giving more orders rather than just letting us enjoy our ride. Overall a great place to visit for just a day or even a week of camping!

We had a good experience with the staff at the office, the bathroom/shower was nice, but as with any campground a mess towards the end of the day. I did see that they cleaned the shower area but with all the traffic in and out I realize it would be hard to keep clean and some kids/campers are inconsiderate. The weekend we was there was full but evenings were quiet. Being on the river we did have to contend with preteens walking through your campsite to get to the river, which I blame on no camping etiquette, lol

Lots people from Indy area come here. Having golf cart would be nice & they do rent them. We always bring our own drinking water & only use site water for showers flushing. (Some bad reviews complained about water) Kids 3rd grade and shouldn't have any trouble swimming in quarry, It's loaded with inflatable to climb. Water is very calm to tube. I can see Thursday night place started filling & people were beginning to let there hair down. If your seasoned camper you won't be let down.

No water this time of the year or creeks running which my pups would have loved. But it was a hike that broke a sweat so I am a happy hiker. MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD OFFLINE MAPS as you loose internet multiple times inside the park. Parts of the hike were in access to the network and I had back up. But it could be an issue for someone getting lost. There's a pretty lake for fishing and it's a very quiet, not so hyped park and has such a serene atmosphere. Lots of serious hikers on the trail but nothing to say it was overcrowded.

It's pristine, clean, decent and clean restrooms (when they get around to adding the TP), and although the roads are in bad shape in many places, it's a fine spot for forest bathing. Your cellphone might not work in some parts of it. Put it away. If you simply must, go to the top of most hills. There are no gas stations or stores within ten miles in any direction; bring the stuff you need for your visit. In the summer, the amount of oxygen you can get here is almost overwhelmingly delicious. There are playgrounds, picnic tables, and shelters, and hundreds of places for a picnic on a blanket/rug. There are insects; remember your bug spray and tick repellent. Enjoy. It's FREE.

It took my friends and I two trips to be successful. The first day was on a Sunday and we were turned around since the park had met capacity. This is why I am giving it 4 out of 5. There should really be an update on Facebook or the website when they meet capacity since the majority of us are hours away. Anyways, second time going was succesful. We went on a Thursday and got there early so we knew we were good. Prices were $15/person and the staff were great with directing cars on where to go and giving instructions on where to sign waivers/pay. You could also rent a lifejacket if needed. The park itself was great. There were several places to jump, ziplines, and a rope swing. As well as platforms to hang out on and watch others jump. The quarry is also deep! I HIGHLY recommend bringing something to float on or hang onto while you are hanging out in the water. Even strong swimmers will benefit from a floatie. The water is deep and you could easily wear yourself out treading water. Plus, everyone has a floatie and you don't look cool because you don't have one. It stressed me out (as a lifeguard of 10 years) to see many people not holding on to something. There are guards there, but truly - know your limits! Wear shoes! Rocks surround the quarry and it isn't easy to walk on. We all wore sandals with straps so we wouldn't lose them We brought in our snacks & drinks with a picnic blanket and it made a huge difference. Maps- I had read that this place was hard to find on a lot of reviews. However, google maps was dead on, minus the closed bridge. I found it twice going once from Indy and once from Brown County. Otherwise, we had a great day. No lines of any sort. I did not do the 30 ft jump, no way! But watched a lot of others hit all the spots. Would go back & would love to see a capacity update for next time!

I stopped to ask a nearby homeowner, who promised the trailhead was just beyond the outdated sign. It was, all official with signage and a parking area. It's a nice trail, clearly marked and with several benches along the way. It's a loop of about a mile and a half, which ends by the creek. There's no real vista while the leaves are still on the trees, perhaps in winter? Maybe I'll make it back to find out!

Nice Indiana State Park…read more HUGE lake. Nice and clean campgrounds; well-groomed grounds. Not big on hiking trails but not bad. It's more about the watersports, fishing, and perhaps hunting. There are two campgrounds, one primitive/tents and the other for mostly RVs and trailers, with a few spots for tents. Everything was clean, given it was a holiday weekend. There is no store or restaurant close by, so bring EVERYTHING YOU NEED, including fuel-- as their marina wasn't pumping when we stayed there (not that we needed it). When it's not a holiday weekend, it's reasonably quiet, but expect a lot of boat traffic noise and loud music on the holidays-- we tried both a holiday and a non-holiday adventure. The signage to the park gates from the county roads stinks, but inside the park, it's not too bad. Get the downloadable map from the IN DNR before you go. Cell service is spotty, and thank heavens!
