I had lens replacement surgery to correct for distance that in my mind and according to a second opinion from an unbiased outside optometrist, was not as successful as should be expected. One eye is 100% near sighted, but the other eye is slightly far sighted. After 9 months, the surgeon was still evasive and did not agree with my concerns about the results and the Gimbel Operations Manager was rude and unresponsive to my emails.

They start off giving you a mild oral sedative that's supposed to calm any nerves. A nurse will come and get you, and take you to the surgery room. Introduction's are made, doctor and assistants. Then the procedure begins. The only discomfort I felt was the pressure on my eyeballs. They freeze your eyes, so you feel slight sensations from where the push around your eyes. The lasering only takes 1 min or so, and you smell what people have described as a burnt hair aroma. That's exactly what it smells like. More time is spent in preparation of the eyes then the surgery itself. Oh one more thing. They have a really comfy waiting area with recliners. They also let family members watch the procedure if you so desire. Still to early to say what the outcome will be. I just had the surgery yesterday. So far so good. Just a little blurry/ foggy from the post op eye drops.

Mitchell Eye Centre was a great choice for my eye surgery. They were referred to me by my family…read moredoctor, but ultimately I chose them because I felt comfortable at their office, did not feel pressured during the consultation. The free post op care for 12-months after surgery played a big role in my decision. I had terrible eyesight (-7.50 in both eyes and astigmatism) so I went with PRK. I got the procedure at the beginning of the year, followed their instructions to a T, and now have better than 20/15 vision. I had no ghosting, no halos, no tearing, no pain after the first couple of days, no complications in general. I got the procedure done on a Saturday morning and drove the next morning. Big mistake. After nearly running someone over I quickly gave up the car and didn't drive until that Wednesday. Right after the procedure I felt fine, but the next day I felt like clawing my eyes out for a couple of hours. The sensitivity to light stayed with me for that first week. Something to think about: the eye drops. I don't mind using them but I began to forget to apply them. Found it was easier to set mini-alarms on my phone to remind me. Dr. Mitchell was professional, patient, and friendly. Mitchell Eye Centre was clean and very comfortable. Open hours were convenient. Early, late, and weekend hours, and support before, during, and after the procedure. While I certainly hope that I don't need to get more eye surgery in the future, if I did - I would go back to the Mitchell Eye Centre.

I wish I had read these reviews before booking with Mitchell Eye-Centre…read more I had a "refractory lens exchange" 4 1/2 weeks ago, which cost me $10,000. What a nightmare -- one of the worst health-care experiences in my life. Dr Patrick Mitchell spent a total of 5 min with me during the initial consultation/exam and pre-surgery. He was rude and abrupt with me. The staff were rude, dismissive, and incompetent... horribly long waits; inaccurate and confusing written-information; patients are treated like cattle at a meat-processing plant. Only a few of the technicians were pleasant, helpful, and had decent manners. I was provided with a number for a so-called "24-hour emergency call-line". I phoned it around 5 times, and only once was it answered by a live person. The other 4 times I left messages and was called back HOURS later by a rude staff-member who gave me inaccurate and dismissive answers to my questions. That's when I finally gave up on that clinic. I agree with the sentiment of another ex-patient who stated that she felt like sending the Mitchell Eye Centre a card saying... "Sorry to have bothered you". I would add "... and I'm never coming back..." To top it off, 4 1/2 weeks after surgery (and spending $10,000), my eye-sight is 20% blurry and I'm still light-sensitive.
