I had lens replacement surgery to correct for distance that in my mind and according to a second opinion from an unbiased outside optometrist, was not as successful as should be expected. One eye is 100% near sighted, but the other eye is slightly far sighted. After 9 months, the surgeon was still evasive and did not agree with my concerns about the results and the Gimbel Operations Manager was rude and unresponsive to my emails.

They start off giving you a mild oral sedative that's supposed to calm any nerves. A nurse will come and get you, and take you to the surgery room. Introduction's are made, doctor and assistants. Then the procedure begins. The only discomfort I felt was the pressure on my eyeballs. They freeze your eyes, so you feel slight sensations from where the push around your eyes. The lasering only takes 1 min or so, and you smell what people have described as a burnt hair aroma. That's exactly what it smells like. More time is spent in preparation of the eyes then the surgery itself. Oh one more thing. They have a really comfy waiting area with recliners. They also let family members watch the procedure if you so desire. Still to early to say what the outcome will be. I just had the surgery yesterday. So far so good. Just a little blurry/ foggy from the post op eye drops.

I have been under the care of Dr. Mark Swain for almost twenty years for a chronic condition that…read morehas given me very little grie.f. However, it needs to be monitored, and Dr. Swain is the specialist that I work with. I have always known that he is a very good doctor. However, I did a presentation in November, 2010 when Dr. Swain was appointed the Cal Wenzel Family Foundation Chair in Hepatology, and I really learned how incredible this man`s credentials are. My experience of him as a doctor, is someone who listens, asks questions, is compassionate, knowledgable and is always honest. Over the years, as alternative health options have been cropping up, I have asked him all kinds of questions regarding my treatment, and he has handled my requests with patience and honesty. Further, in the rare occassion where I have had trouble, he has been accessible. He truly does care about the work that he does, and his patients. He always makes time. In addition to taking on patients, Dr. Swain also holds other responsibilities in his field. I have done my best to paraphrase some of his credentials for this review, and I have also included a link to his full credentials as well. - Acting Head for the Division of Gastroenterology, University of Calgary (U of C) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) - Professor of Medicine, Hepatologist and Clinician-Scientist at the U of C. - He has won many awards for teaching and research, including the U of C Watanabe Distinguished Achievement Award for Overall Excellence. - He is currently the Cal Wenzel Family Foundation Chair in Hepatology, and the Head of the Translational Research Core for the Snyder Institute, at the U of C Source: http://www.departmentofmedicine.com/documents/announcements/swain_head_announcement.pdf When I learned in November, 2010 that he is also holds so many other titles and roles within the medical community, I am just further astounded and impressed that he actually has the time to provide the level of care that he does. I feel extremely fortunate. For any patients who are researching Dr. Swain, be advised that if you have been placed under his care, you are a dealing with the cream of the crop. Not only for his credentials, but for his bedside manner as well.
