Vision is THE single most critical sensory component in the human body, I believe in hiring the best. A friend referred me to the Calgary Vision Centre knowing my high standards. I made an appointment with Dr. Burke whom I later learned graduated from one of the top Optometry schools in the US. This brought peace of mind given the programs down south are much more rigorous and competitive than those in Canada. The exam was the single most thorough I have ever had. There are a battery of tests conducted over a 20 minute period with digital equipment that map all the components for your eye. The equipment is infrared, ultrasound, etc. Dr. Burke then spends nearly 30 minutes walking through all the tests and makes recommendations. The level of technology was nothing like I had ever seen. I concur with my friends recommendation; Calgary Vision Centre is the most advanced eye clinic in the Calgary market and Dr. Burke is one of the leading Doctors of Optometry in Alberta. Calgary Vision Centre charges $129 for an exam. Given you only have to go once every other year; any person who considers themselves halfway intelligent should be willing to pay an extra $30 to see the best. I had a nice surprise after finishing the exam when I learned Blue Cross covered my entire cost of the exam. They also have the ability to direct bill your insurance for glasses and contacts, which is also a nice benefit. Despite these great benefits, I'd gladly pay to see Dr. Burke again even if it wasn't covered. If you value your eyesight, Calgary Vision Centre is without a doubt the best clinic in the Calgary market.

Every detail in this store is illuminated. Even the floor is glittery. Backwalls and displays are lit with blue and purple lights. Too rich for my blood, I thought. It wasn't until I was actually looking for an optical place, I walked into Optiko. Browsing around, I found a good selection of brand name eyewear. They carry Chrome Hearts (which is pretty ballin since there's less than a handful of places that do). They don't carry the usual selection of brands other optical places carry. An honorable mention, is the amount of unique designer peices they stock. I can't say many places carry the wood frame Ray Bans or the Cat eye Prada frames. Simply put, most stores won't carry them for fear of them not being able to sell. What does this mean for Calgary shoppers? Limited selection, limited choices and boring standard products. The eclectic, the unique and fashionable live here. Optiko breaks the mold for the safe and standard. Kudos for having the best selectiof of upscale designer products and ever friendly staff. The place had a very modern vibe to it - vibrant colors, plush seating, extensive eyewear collection, well placed counters and excellent associates. They even carry the very cool and forward thinking brands ECO and Modo. Now you may be thinking, why would I bother going to the optometrist, I don't need glasses! My first question to you would be, are you sure, when did you last get your eyes examined? You are supposed to go every two years at the least. Now I am not a frequent glasses wearer, I have a pair for night time driving, but just like going to the dentist or the doctor, I get my regular check ups. My family members are frequent glasses wearers, so I have been visiting optometrists regularly for almost 30 years, and Dr Ross is by far the most courteous, understanding, and knowledgeable one I have come across. He took the time to go over each test and why they were doing them as well as explained the results with me. He didn't talk down to me, and he answered all my questions patiently until I understood it completely. Dr. Michele was excellent, explaining the pictures she took with new equipment I had not seen before. I have since started going to the Cochrane location as it is closer to home. I can't say enough about the staff at both locations as they have been so good. I can honestly say that after such a short time and just a few visits the staff all know me by name and treat me like a friend more so than a customer - not the case after 30 some years of going to the same Dr. in Edmonton. I book an annual eye exam right after my last one ends and have done this for the 8+ years I was a patient of this clinic. Recently they have implemented text messaging to confirm my appointment, and I got a text a few weeks before my appointment asking me to press 1 to confirm. I liked this new structure and promptly replied "1" exactly as asked. A week later I get the same text and figured something may have glitches. No problem: replied "1" again. I show up 5 minutes before my appointment time today and am told I don't have an appointment. I show the receptionist my text messages and responses. She says they didn't get them and thus canceled my appointment. She then asks the doctor if they can fit me in and they say they can't. WTAF I am so pissed off as I took the morning off work for this.

I also really appreciated that she explained everything she was doing while examining me.I really felt comfortable and confident with her examining my eyes. There was also no pressure to buy contact lenses from her office. I bought the amount that I wanted and she gave me my glasses prescription to shop around with. They also direct bill your insurance!
