When it comes to health related items, I do not quibble on price. Too often I see people complain or give lower reviews saying "they have the latest equipment and technology", but it was too expensive". Vision is THE single most critical sensory component in the human body, I believe in hiring the best. A friend referred me to the Calgary Vision Centre knowing my high standards. I made an appointment with Dr. Burke whom I later learned graduated from one of the top Optometry schools in the US. This brought peace of mind given the programs down south are much more rigorous and competitive than those in Canada. The exam was the single most thorough I have ever had. There are a battery of tests conducted over a 20 minute period with digital equipment that map all the components for your eye. The equipment is infrared, ultrasound, etc. Dr. Burke then spends nearly 30 minutes walking through all the tests and makes recommendations. The level of technology was nothing like I had ever seen. I concur with my friends recommendation; Calgary Vision Centre is the most advanced eye clinic in the Calgary market and Dr. Burke is one of the leading Doctors of Optometry in Alberta. Calgary Vision Centre charges $129 for an exam. Given you only have to go once every other year; any person who considers themselves halfway intelligent should be willing to pay an extra $30 to see the best. I had a nice surprise after finishing the exam when I learned Blue Cross covered my entire cost of the exam. They also have the ability to direct bill your insurance for glasses and contacts, which is also a nice benefit. Despite these great benefits, I'd gladly pay to see Dr. Burke again even if it wasn't covered. If you value your eyesight, Calgary Vision Centre is without a doubt the best clinic in the Calgary market. read more

I used to live down south, so my main optometrist was close to home. But now that I'm living and working inner city, it was just too much of an effort to get there during opening hours. So, I was working at Gulf Canada Square at the time and this optometrist, no surprise, was the most convenient. I can just hop in on my lunch hour and get my eye exam once a year. Granted, the price is a little steep for an exam ($120, where I hear it's $80/90 other places) but they also have the newest technology, including a machine that "xrays" your eye and you can see slices of it on a screen... it's pretty cool. I have a terrible prescription and wear contacts 24/7 (ok, not when I sleep) so it's really important to me to ensure I have the healthiest eyes possible. My family is also very susceptible to cataracts. So, yay? I never have issues making an appointment, and they've taken me same-day when I needed to get in urgently once, so I'd recommend this optometrist (just make sure your insurance covers the whole exam!) This place is wonderful. Much unlike the Yelper below, I have had nothing but wonderful service here. The receptionists are welcoming and accommodating, and in fact go above and beyond in my opinion. The optometrist is respectful, professional, helpful, and friendly. They have a nice selection of frames, though they err more on the expensive side. Really glad that this place was recommended to me, as I have never had a better optometrist expensive (and I've been wearing glasses since I was 4 yrs old!)! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Justin Norris for about 10 years now. He was recommended by a friend who at the time mentioned she had gone to high school with him. I no longer see the friend, in the interests of full disclosure, but am happy to report I still see Dr. Norris on an annual basis. It is too easy to write a good review and sound insincere, particularly if you have literally nothing bad to say. The last couple of times I've shown up early for appointments and I've been accommodated by being seen early. The office staff is always pleasant, well-mannered and organized. They have a dizzying array of eye-testing equipment and the staff guides you comfortably through the tests. Dr. Norris is affable and friendly while at the same time giving a thorough explanation of all the tests he does each year. He explains everything about the health of each eye in detail, patiently answers questions, and involves the patient in decisions. It's hard to capture in words how effortless he makes it all look. Very pleased with the care I receive here and will continue to come back as I have the last ten years. read more

I went into the store in the Beddington co-op mall this afternoon at around 3 pm as I have this serious eye condition and I was having symptoms so I wanted my eyes checked. The secretary was very rude to me when i asked if i could get in she tried to book me in for next week but I told her it was an emergency and if i could speak with the Dr for a quick second but she said no, then I asked her if she knew where the nearest walk in eye clinic is but she said no again she could have told me that Rocky view hospital (That I later found out has an eye clinic), or even Deerfoot mall has a walk in clinic (and its not far from this one) but again she just shrugged her shoulders and showed me no compassion, seemed that texting was more important than helping me. People like this shouldnt even be in this kind of job, I felt aweful when I left. I wouldn't even give this 1 star, it be Zero stars and instead of VISION EYE CARE, they should call themselves VISION I DONT CARE CENTRE because they don't. read more

My experience with DR. Burke was good and found him to be quite thorough but dealing with his front staff and getting lenses right has soured my opinion of this office. I went in asking for a specific and trusted brand that I have used for years but I was recommended a new style of "digital" Essilor which was supposed to be better, and given the assurance that if they didn't work out it would not be an issue to swap them. When I found that the lenses were not suitable for my needs I was met with the defensiveness by the lady at the front and told that it must be my eyes not the lenses. They begrudgingly brought them back to have the lenses swapped. A few weeks later my new lenses were in and they are not the lens brand that I asked for, they insist that they are even though the invoice clearly states they are not. As it turned out the replacement lenses were also Essilor, after being refunded I have taken my business else ware. The issue with lenses would not have bothered me if it had been resolved promptly, but the attitude of the staff is quite disappointing. read more

Amazingly thorough and completely great experience from the time I made the phone call yesterday to when they fit me into a cancellation and saw me this morning! This team is so great you won't hardly believe it. The optometrist technician Suzanne (pardon me if I have her title incorrect) made 100% sure all eye scans were good reads, using the latest technology. When handed off to Dr.Burke he was extremely good at communicating my unique situation, showing clear pictures of my optical nerve ( using the scannned technique similar to ultrasound), and effectively bringing me to a clear and concise understanding of his diagnosis (which he carefully and efficiently deduced interactively) of my particular situation. He is also concerned with proper follow up and not at all interested in anything beyond what is practical, warranted and optimal. Upon getting my prescription from him, optician Morgan rounded out my perfect 10 experience helping me look at best options for me considering my vision needs, style and price point with only above board honest friendly and thoughtful attentive care! Pay attention Calgary Vision Care Professionals, this is the high standard for you to compare yourself to. If only all customer service experiences could get within an arms reach if this, we would approach Utopia. Not kidding at all, stellar top to bottom! read more

the service at this place is terrible, front desk women are so mean, they hang up your phone if you question their service. when you say you want to have a follow up check with the new glasses from their prescription, their response is very defensive, they would just make you wait on the phone. the optometrist is not very patient neither very professional, with relying on their machine too much, and ended up give you not accurate prescription. the front desk women then just want to sell you their frames, if you get frames somewhere else, and come back for corrected vision follow-up, they will treat you like mentioned above. read more

I chose Calgary Vision Centre as it was close to work and my appointment was with Dr Burke. He was lovely and thorough in his exam. Fast forward a couple of years later and I had a continual headache that started in August 2014. By November 2014 I had been to emergency twice in extreme pain, given pain meds and sent on my way. In December 2014 I lost the vision in my left eye and called up to see Dr Burke. He got me in with hours. Once again his exam was thorough and he found something. There was a lot of pressure behind my eyes and he thought there was something going on with the cerebral fluid. He told me to go to the Rockyview straight away. That night I had a CT Scan and brain lymphoma was found. Treatment started ASAP. This past year has been a world wind treatment, stem cell transplant and recovery. I am so thankful for how thorough he is, I owe him my life. I have been back since that day and the staff has been friendly and asked how I am doing, I thought they would not remember but they did. He has also seen my daughter who has double vision and he is great working with kids, even putting the drops in. Again the staff was amazing finding her the perfect glasses, a modern shape and bright purple! read more
