Deep far exceeded expectations. I'd be very surprised to find another meal as good in Howth. I can't stop thinking about the open fish pie! Atmosphere: We arrived around 1:30pm on a Saturday to a busy restaurant with one table left. Make a reservation if you can! Drinks: I had a local blond ale that was very hoppy but paired very well with my fish and chips. E also had a bottle of Prosecco for the table that were great with our oysters. Food: wow. These were the best fish and chips I've ever had and I've had them all. My friend got the open face fish pie which is really more like a fish chowder with mashed potatoes. It was to die for. The flavor was spot on. If you're looking for a place to eat I'm Howth, which let's be honest there's not much else to do, Deep is the only place to go. You can thank me later. read more

A cozy, little restaurant with a great Early Bird special. They have a fireplace and the mirrors make it feel more spacious than it actually is. The seating is comfortable with some large couch-style chairs available. I had the fish and chips with the seafood chowder. I like they have full change table service after every serving. Hiwever, I was quite surprised today when I ordered the oysters. 3 raw and 3 Rockefeller. I would have lessened their star rating except they corrected the problem. The rockefellers were nice delicious with a grilled Parmesan onion toppings. However, I was quite surprised that my raw oysters were served turned up in a bowl with all the brine spilled to the bottom of the bowl and not even on ice. I noticed the oysters were warm or room temp. I had to send them back. 2nd time was served on bed of ice. Really weird to get oysters served turned up in a bowl. Hmmm? The crab claws were lovely. In a nice butter sauce. The pan grilled black sole was huge and absolutely tender and delicious. You just have to work around the bones. €36. Served with pan Fried potatoes and pan grilled veggies. The chef special shel fish pot was spot on with tender clams, mussels, shrimp and crab claws served in a tomato based Provençal sauce. Delicious. Nice crusty grilled bread to sop up the broth on the bottom. Still lovely place to get good seafood. Just tell them if something doesn't look or taste right. I did! read more

I LOVE DEEP! Came across this gem while I was in Howth for the afternoon with my friend. The ambiance is very intimate and cozy, perfect for quality time with a friend. Deep has super fresh seafood right from Dublin Bay. I know it's not Irish at all but I ordered seafood paella (my favorite food) and for dessert I had cheesecake. The paella was good but the cheesecake tasted more like a block of whipped cream. It definitely wasn't cream cheese. I also had a nice hot pot of peppermint tea since it pretty cold and windy when we visited Howth. Very nice dining experience. I would definitely come back here if I'm ever in Howth again! read more

Oh I loved my meal here! I ordered the Asian style trout (sweet n sour and a little bit of spice, yum) and it was very fresh. Loved the roasted potatoes drenched in the sauce. Decent portion sizes (I was stuffed, and my friend's fish pie was nearly too big for two). I definitely recommend this place for some lovely seafood choices! Everything was delicious from the fish and chips and calamari (which my boyfriend said is the best he's had) to the trout, mussels, prawns, and salmon. Would highly recommend. What a lovely spot, tipped out on a fine day and sat outside! Missus went for a platter to share with the kids! Big chunks of battered cod, calamari and fish cakes, they said it was beautiful! I went for a burger (not a fan of fish) was ok but what do you expect from a fish restaurant. What annoyed me was the €8.20 for a glass of wine, I'd be expecting a serious Sancerre for that price, nope bog standard sauv blanc. What a great little place. It's a cozy spot, but it has a lot of charm in my opinion. Everyone was so very kind, and there was some soothing music playing overhead. They have a roast of the day, a pasta of the day, a fish of the day, and a risotto of the day. Any place that has a risotto of the day automatically gets a special place in my heart, so Deep is doing well. To start, I had the fish cakes, which came with a small salad of greens, peppers, and red onions. Really enjoyable and when you cut into that first fish cake, a strong smell of fresh fish leaks out--that's good. I decided to get the risotto of the day, which was served with chorizo and peas. It also had a red sauce base, which I'm not used to, but it was great. It also had fresh tomato and mushrooms. It was a nicely sized portion and had a very full flavor. We split onion rings at the table. Let it be known that I hate onion rings. My stomach doesn't get along too well with onions to begin with, so I try to avoid eating them (especially fried) at all costs. These were good, had a nice crispy batter that wasn't too bready, and were just large enough. We also split two pancakes for dessert with lemon and sugar, and it was a light, refreshing way to end the meal. They also have tiramisu, sticky pudding, and a variety of other desserts which I'm sad to say I might not get to try for a long time. Sometimes, being a visitor is a bad thing! I was going to close out this review by somehow tying in Adele's "Rolling in the Deep"...but I don't know how, so there you have it. read more

This place is yummy. I mean really yummy. A friend and I were out at Howth for the day and were originally going to head to El Paso for lunch/dinner but decided we were both in the mood for seafood. They have platters for two and holy moly it was good. The seafood cakes were unbelievably perfect and the calamari was perfect, which is hard to do. Don't even get me started on the muscles in a white wine and cream sauce. I mean it. Don't! The sauce was so good I want to bathe in it. REALLY!!!! The deserts are also a little slice of heaven. I went to Howth from Dublin looking for a good place to eat fresh sea food and definitely this is not the restaurant. I ordered a platter for 2 of sea food which included calamari, prawns, mussles, hake etc and absolutely everything was roll in batter and greasy. Nothing different to the classic fish and chips you can find in any pub around the city. I expected much more from an expensive restaurant in a fishing town to be honest. Sat near the door which meant a constant whistling breeze at my feet even on a warm dish day. Decor a bit faded/nothing special. Calamari was ok, fish and chips fine. Wine not especially well chilled. Staff were mainly a little hurried and brusque-seemingly annoyed when you had a request and somewhat jaded- with a few obvious cheerful exceptions. What a gem! Happened to stumble upon this restaurant thanks to yelp. Have to say this place is one of the best restaurants based on quality and value I have come across in recent months. The 19.95 early bird for 2 courses is perfect. I had the seafood chowder and there was a special rockbass fish for the main. Both were delicious. The place is really cute and relaxing. The food was great however we were let down by the desserts. To start we had dublin prawns and mussels both were Delicious. Full of flavor and tasted like MORE!!!! The main we had Fish pie, sea trout, fish and chips and rock fish all really yummy!!!! However the size of the pie was a lot bigger than the sea trout portion. Then it came to dessert...... The sticky toffee pudding was dry and the toffee was burnt. My friend had the rhubarb tart which was too sweet plus it had a piece of plastic in it. After complaining to the waitress without hesitation she apologized and told us we would not have to pay for the desserts. After which she came back and told me they would not charge us for any of the desserts or the coffee. The service was excellent however I would suggest having 1 more person working as I did need assistance a couple of times and it took awhile to find someone who could help. I enjoyed my late lunch at Deep the other day. We wanted to get some sea air at Howth. The original plan was to visit Aqua for lunch but they close at 3.30-5.00. We passed Deep on the way down and liked the look of it so we opted for it as a second choice. We were greeted and seated quickly. There room looks bigger than it really is as the end wall has been covered in a mirror. Its a great idea as it makes the room feel airy and bright. They were very busy with both locals and tourists. The service was very good too- the two main waiters were backed up by a lady who came out at times. They all covered the room well. We decided to share a seafood platter which was tasty. There were battered cod, battered prawns, mussels, smoked salmon on brown bread, crab cakes and calamari. It was all very tasty and the batter was very light. My only comment would be that I think there could have been a little less battered seafood- maybe something grilled or smoked. However its a minor point as we really enjoyed the food. We shared a blueberry tart which was very tasty, and finished with good americanos. I would certainly visit Deep again as I liked the service, the food and the ambiance. The bill was €45 plus tip which I thought was reasonable value for what we enjoyed. read more

They served some of the best seafood I have ever had in my life! My fiancé and I ordered oysters as an appetizer and one of the seafood tasting platters (Option 1). The oysters were AMAZING; the freshest I have ever had! The tasting platter was also great and didn't put a dent in our wallets. Food left a lot to be desired considering the quality of some of the other restaurants along the same walkway. €8 for a bowl of chowder that definitely needed seasoning, was rather watery and came with a tiny sliver of bread. I understand it was in the starter section of the menu but I think at lunchtime a soup is considered a meal in itself and I felt this was quite stingy. My father ordered the fish and chips and again the portions were small - less of a problem here as the fried carbs are more filling but certainly the plate looked a bit bare for what you were paying. Everything was very tasty, from the calamari to the grilled fish. I highly recommend the seafood chowder - one of the best I've ever tasted, and the sea trout, delicious! Was out in Howth pretty early for a walk and decided to have a bite to eat around lunchtime. Noticed that Deep were advertising platters for 2 and went for the one that included prawns and calamari, smoked salmon, mussels and so on - very very tasty!!! Went for dinner and had the seafood platter for 2 which cost 25 euro. The smoked salmon and crayfish were very good. The calamari was very soft and not crispy at all. Mussels just tasted like pure garlic. The fish cakes were pretty good. We also had the grilled haloumi salad which was great. We were visiting Howth for the afternoon, and decided to dine at Deep after doing some menu "window shopping". We were drawn in by the two course early bird deal for 23 euro. Our waitress was very pleasant and gave us some helpful menu suggestions. We ordered the brie starter, which was phenomenal paired with a cranberry dipping sauce. I had the fish pie, and my boyfriend has the rockbass filet, both of which were delicious.
