My daughter has a severe mustard allergy and she told the staff 4 times how severe this allergy was! We had a large group last night of 18 made up of two tables in a private area. They brought her a salad with dressing that included mustard, and she had an immediate reaction which obviously ruined the rest of her evening. Luckily the allergy responded to two extra strength Benadryl instead of the use of her EpiPen. The manager apologized, but mentioned that they got the other two courses right and had no excuse for the salad. They didn't behave in the way of how severe this allergy is. Matt the Thresher is a seafood restaurant known for its fresh, locally sourced Irish cuisine and lively atmosphere. The restaurant is located in the city center, just a few block from our hotel near St. Stephens Green. The 4 of us previously made reservations. It was a great meal and among the best we enjoyed during our 2 week stay in various parts of Ireland. Our waitress was great, particularly when she explained the Shrimp Scampi in Ireland was breaded. We had a nice table, with a nice view of the bar and the room, and fun energy. Here's what we ordered: - Matt's Seafood Linguine (Eric) - Turbot (Gayle) - Halibut (Fern) - Porchetta (Don) We ordered a bottle of white wine for the table (Gavi Di Gavi), which Fern had heard good things about. We were not disappointed as it went well with everything (including the pork) and was enough wine for how we often drink at dinner. We finished off with 2 orders (for sharing) of Warm Chocolate Fondant. Full and happy, we ventured back into the night and to our nice hotel. read more

Solid choice in city centre with plenty of good, fresh seafood options. The menu is full of good choices, including daily specials. Since the items are fresh, several dishes may be sold out by dinner time. I was disappointed I couldn't try the soup of the day, poached pear and goat cheese salad or the louet feisser or grilled louet feisser. They were sold out, which is a good sign of their popularity and freshness. I started off side baby gem caesar dressing salad. It didn't taste much like caesar dressing. I could've done without it. For my main I had the seafood linguine. The seafood included pawns, mussels and clams. It was good, nice size portion of seafood. My friend had the trout special and he said it was very good and fresh. He also enjoyed the Carlingford and Connemara Oysters The cocktails unfortunately were a miss for us. My Manhattan tasted more like vermouth than whiskey. My friend exchanged the mojito for a cider because it was a bit too syrupy. My other friend did enjoy her whiskey sour. They have an extensive wine list. The service was great. We were seated immediately and one waitress was very friendly, had great energy and provided us with great recommendations. There were 6 of us and we were seated in a booth with a small table that felt like it would've better fit 3-4 people. Our waitress was kind and attentive. The food was good, but nothing too special. Nice place about a 20 minute walk from the river in Dublin. We went after a tour of Trinity College. The service was wonderful and the drink selection was great. Definitely a great place to go if you are looking for a cocktail or wine instead of a pint, although they still had a great draft selection. What a lovely restaurant for our last night in Dublin! The interior has great decor and a wonderful vibe, with an area of tables and bookshelves I wanted to sit in for an entire afternoon. Our server was fun and funny, and took good care of us. The food was very good; I had a burger, which was excellent. The fries/chips were fine. Someone else had the Salade Nicoise with tuna; the eggs were a gorgeous golden color. Save room for dessert! We shared a mixed berry crumble with ice cream and it was excellent. The food was good. We were tired of the Irish pub food so we decided to pop in here for a nice meal. Gave us a break from fried and stewed food. Food was fresh and came out pretty quick. We got the two special of the day and they were both very filling. The fish was fresh and not dry. Tried the dessert and it was decent. Nothing too special. Inside was classy and clean. Checked in this Sunday afternoon for the live jazz music from 2 to 5 pm every weekend. Bartender was very friendly, and I got to taste several Irish whiskey. Also tasted the house fish chowder. The chowder was well made, warm and creamy with delicate taste of potato flour cream and pleasantly spicy seasoning. Also came with a generous portion of fish fillets that tasted very well. The waitress advised to add a touch of lemon juice to the chowder, and it worked very well. The lemon zest balanced against the heavy and savory taste of chowder. Friday night, 830pm. We were placed downstairs at a table that by all accounts shouldn't exist. This table, placed directly at the bottom of a dark wooden stairwell, felt like a practical joke without a punchline. I kept expecting a 'You're on Candid Camera' type moment so the tension could ease and I might be let in on the joke. Entirely unlit by any semblance of lighting, I felt not unlike Quasimodo, cast away in a dark stone tower. Except, instead of being ceremoniously expected to nightly toll the hallowed bell of Notre-Dame, I was resigned to squint in the darkness at the dinner menu of Matt, who is apparently The Thresher. A man appeared, perhaps he will enlighten (pun intended) us to our plight. Is this Matt? Hmm. I mention how dark it is, trying to laugh it off; he mumbles a bit and moves a nearly extinguished candle from the bookshelf behind us down to the center of the table. Ah. That'll... do it? Every thirty seconds or so, someone comes bounding down the stairs with frightening speed. I think to myself, "Maybe this is it, this is the moment I'm impaled by someone's dinner fork", or at least scalded and permanently disfigured by a soup or perhaps some broiled oysters (which were delicious by the way). I can see it now. My future... in a traveling freak show, 3rd degree burns on my face so bad to be unrecognizable as a man, or beast. The children would cry, the women would look away. "It was... The Thresher...", they wouldn't hear me though as they hurried away to the concessions stand. "Get the churro" I croak in earnest. Amidst this fever dream a man reappears, beads of sweat upon his brow, he looks stressed. Threshed? He disappears, moments later carrying bounties of brown bread slices on plates, he apologizes as he hands them to every single table down in The Dungeon (I decided to brand our subterranean enclave). I came due to the recommendation of a Scottish friend, but I left disappointed Mussels- these were good Avocado salad with crab - I would skip. The avocado is not mature, therefore, it lacked oil content and more on the watery side Seafood platter for $60- oysters were good, crab meat was good. Crab claw was pretty bland. Most disappointing were the prawns - they did not taste fresh, just frozen. And very, very bland. They should have boiled it with salt at least. I'm Asian from CA, and we would usually buy fresh live crabs or shrimp from the market, boil them in salt (or various other herb, like lemongrass), and you can taste the delicious juice and freshness. When ordering the mussels no questions were asked as to size and when brought up we eaten like 3 and were told we ordered wrong. So sad, this was the final dinner after a 3 week vacation traditionally we have a "nice" dinner to finish out our trips. How disappointing. Started out ok our table was a small 2 top that they squeezed a third place setting onto. Not a walk up I made a reservation several days ago. Ordered drinks and they got one of the drinks wrong but my young guest did not want to make a fuss so did not get it changed. Oysters were good salty fresh and well shucked with clean shells. We then waited over an hour and a half from ordering to get our main dishes. The fish pie was smoked fish very traditional but nothing special mash on top was dry. linguine with prawns was the best dish had flavour and not too bad. My special was far from special. Two pieces of monk fish with a seafood broth and new potatoes. broth was ok not very flavourful, hard to screw up potatoes and the fish was dry, I was a little shocked to be paying 38 Euros for a dish with frozen peas and carrots mix in the broth. It took over an hour and a half from ordering to get our meal and they comp'd 2 beers and a glass of wine!!! The St Stephen Green area is filled with restaurants & this is a real hidden gem. It is reasonably priced and delicious.

We came here on a high recommendation from a friend, and our experience was not favorable. First, it would appear that unless you are local, they don't give your table much attention. My husband does not drink, and the server rolled her eyes when he indicated he wanted water. We ordered the seafood shell item, which was underwhelming with many empty shells and the broth was not flavorful. It took us 20 minutes to get our check after asking.
