I have noticed that grocery stores are charging an exorbitant amount for wood ($9!). Look along roads for locals selling wood with self pay cash sites for 5 or 6 dollars.

Our trip was planned last-minute while my brother was home on a short military leave before he had to return to Guam. We wanted to go fishing and sprinkle our dad's ashes to mark the end of probate, and this crew turned what could've been a heavy, emotional trip into something profoundly meaningful and beautiful. Despite being closed for renovations, Captain Steve and his wife, LeAnn, reopened just for us because our dad had fished with them many times over the years. They even rearranged their own holiday plans to make sure we could come. That alone speaks volumes about the kind of people they are. From start to finish, they handled everything. They helped us secure a last-minute car rental, cleaned and processed all our fish for shipping home, and woke up early--on what should've been their day off--to make sure we were fed, warm, and taken care of. Leann cooked five-star meals for us every day--breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She truly is the "hostess with the mostest!" And the highlight we'll be talking about forever? They cooked fresh crab for us right on the boat. Pulled from the ocean and cooked and eaten by hand on the spot--it doesn't get any better than that. We were also incredibly blessed with wildlife sightings. Over the course of our trip, we saw two pods of orcas, playful sea otters, several seals, and even a bald eagle--which meant more to us than words can say. The eagle is a special spirit animal for my brother and I, a symbol we deeply associate with our dad, and seeing one felt like a sign that he was with us. Captain Steve chose the perfect place for us to spread our dad's ashes--one of the spots he used to take him fishing. Evan, the sweetest and most attentive deckhand, helped us every step of the way and even brushed the snow off our car before we left. Every detail was handled with genuine care and kindness. This wasn't just a fishing trip. It was a healing experience, a family moment, and a memory we'll carry for the rest of our lives. We felt cared for, supported, and welcomed like family. We can't wait to come back in the summer for halibut, but for now, the salmon--and the memories--are perfect. The office staff was so helpful and responsive to my questions. Due to the laws pertaining to the halibut fishing I took a Salmon and Rockfish trip on the Whistler with Captain Avery Ault. The boat was clean and well maintained. The young man who was our deckhand was attentive and extremely knowledgeable. The captain worked hard at getting us on fish which he was very successful. Clam Gulch Campground is a beautiful place to escape on the Kenai Peninsula. Its one of the few…read moreplaces you'll find with a remote beach that you can sun bathe, fish, clam dig and potentially swim if its warm enough all while in the shadows of snow capped volcanoes. This beach is one of my favorite places to escape to in the summer with my husband. The Campground is HUGE, with over a hundred sites that are nicely spaced. There's potable water and pit toilets as well. The wall to the beach is BRUTAL- 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND and you cannot make it in a RV. VERY MUCH Recommend this location if you want to escape, the view is phenomenal. Its about an hour from the nearest significant grocery store in Homer, so bring everything you need. Just be careful getting out of the car in your good clothes if it's been wet. Even if it hasn't been wet actually. Cusacks is very lively and regularly has complaints to the State Troopers for loud music after midnight. Everyone in the neighborhood is bothered by it. One never thought they'd be living outside the city limits by a honky tonk. But it's lively. That's for sure. There is also abundant wildlife including 8 large dogs who roam the neighborhood, poop on everyone's property and invade everyone's personal space including visits the front door. Imagine how that goes over by the resident dog. The Troopers have had many calls but so far the only suggestion is pepper spray. Outside the City Limits right. Imagine how awful that will smell at a wedding though. Anyway. I'm sure you can tell how well loved by the neighborhood these out of state entrepreneurs are. Yes. The web site spins some heart felt tale about sisters from Alaska, but the owner is one person from Out of state. But, they're making a buck so who cares right.
