I spoke to Ms. Schiller about talking to me and a coparent in a high conflict custody battle. She…read moresaid she had handled many high conflict cases where a Gaurdian ad Litem was involved. The initial consultation went well but that was it. She is not able to give an unbiased or professional opinion about child custody . she is also unable to deescalate tension across parties during sessions. I would give her zero stars if I could. she is out of network but accepts Tricare and I had to get an exception for them to allow her to speak to us for our issues and I regret talking to her and jumping through hoops to get this referal approved. During the last session My coparent and I went to she kept asking me to step outside because some of the topics were making me emotional . when I asked if I could step outside she said ok and then she said "I will count this as your third Coparenting session so you do not have to come back". I said ok and left . Even though I had attended individual sessions with her previously that would have counted towards the three. She called the Gaurdian Ad Litem for my daughters court case, and told her that I walked out of the sessions, and that the sessions were incomplete. I'm not sure if I upset this person or if she just took sides and wanted to help out the other party in the court case but that was extremely unprofessional. For one, she asked me to step outside all the time during the session because she could not de-escalate the conversation between The coparent and I. Those of you who have gone through custody battles know that sometimes the other party can say things that need to be addressed, but do invoke a lot of emotion. I am extremely disappointed in Mariah Schiller's professionalism. My daughter went to see another psychologist who worked with active duty, military families for over 30 years and this Coparenting Therapist just threw out the letter like the person who wrote it had zero experience. She would not talk about things in this letter. Some of these things included important information about my daughters, emotional health And how the other coparent and I could help her. Overall a terrible experience and I hope Tricare takes her off of available providers completely. This was a three session, court ordered, Coparenting therapy plan that I requested because there were some issues that need to be addressed. The judge approved it. Now I have to tell this judge why I walked out and why this therapist lied to the Gaurdian Ad Litem about how many sessions she said i went to (Four including individual) Overall again horrible experience would not ever go back.

My experience with Maria Schiller was overall very positive. I had court ordered co-parenting…read moretherapy for me and the mother of my daughter. I was nervous about how it would go because I didn't choose her, (my daughter's mother did because it was going to be covered under her Tricare), and I was worried about there being a gender bias. All those concerns were relieved when she made it clear that her focus was on having the best outcome for our daughter and to help us work towards an outcome that got us closer to a better co-parenting situation. Our first meeting was done separately at the request of the other co-parent. For the remaining sessions that were ordered by the court we did in person. During the sessions Ms Schiller instantly picked up on the other co-parents issues with co-parenting such as constantly blaming me for things that I had nothing to do with, accusational remarks rather than asking questions and her general aggressiveness and Ms schiller tried to explain how those things don't foster a healthy co-parenting relationship over the course of our sessions. This made the other co-parent upset that Ms schiller was "siding with her" and she once again iterated that she was there to guide us on what is the best co-parenting for our daughter and not to take sides. She also emphasized that the sessions were for how to co-parent moving forward and not a couple's therapy about the past. Ms Schiller did get her sometime to vent any past feelings to allow us to move forward but the other co-parent was getting aggressive and yelling during this time and asked her to step out for a minute to cool down, this upset the other co-parent which led to her walking out and not coming back. Overall Ms Schiller did a good job of at first meeting with us separately, gathering information about each of us and how we parent our child when she is with each of us and then staying with point of view. She was focused on what was best for our child and trying to stay neutral and not be biased. In the end, she is just there as a guide and it takes two parents to co-parent and if one refuses then there is only so much that can be done.
