Updating my review to respond to the owner since I wasn't clear enough before. Number 1: I didn't get a prescription from TWO DIFFERENT PROVIDERS. I got prescription #1 for my anxiety and prescription #2 for ADHD. BOTH were always prescribed by the SAME doctor for years. It wasn't until Dr. Denise came to the practice that I started having problems getting refills on medication I've been getting prescribed for YEARS. SHE was the one who advised me to get my anxiety medication from another doctor because she would not refill it for me. It has been months since I've had a refill. She DID NOT disclose to me that if I get my ANXIETY medication (prescription #1) from another provider (because she refused to refill it) that she would also refuse to refill prescription #2 for my ADHD. These are TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT medications. I was not trying to get "extra" or cheat the system, I ran out of my anxiety meds and needed a refill. My last refill was back in MARCH and I was only prescribed 10 pills. Dr. Denise refused to refill my prescription for some reason but advised me to get it from another provider, which I did. I was simply following the advice that Dr. Denise gave me to get my regular meds that I've been taking for years. After following her advice to get prescription #1 (anxiety meds) elsewhere, she later on refused to refill prescription #2 (adhd meds). I have been going to this practice for a few years and have loved it here when Dr. Charlene Bell was still working here. Dr. Bell was attentive, caring and actually LISTENED to patients instead of coldly rushing them off calls after not listening or helping them at all like Dr. Denise Olutoyin Akinyanju. During an appointment with Dr. Denise, I was advised to seek my anxiety prescription refill from another provider. What was not disclosed to me (and should have been) was that doing so would result in my ADHD prescription being denied. I only learned this AFTER I needed a refill on my ADHD medication, at which point I was abruptly told to get all my prescriptions elsewhere. Had I been given that information UPFRONT, I would have just gotten both from that other doctor right then and there. Now I have to schedule ANOTHER appointment with that doctor and miss more time at work. This lack of communication disrupted my treatment yet again, since this happens often with Dr. Denise, and felt very unprofessional. The lack of clear communication, paired with what appears to be punitive action taken after I followed her guidance, has significantly impacted my care. I believe this conduct was unethical, possibly retaliatory, and clearly not in line with patient-centered practice. Additionally, this is not the first time I have experienced undue difficulty receiving long-standing, necessary prescriptions from Ms. Akinyanju, despite a stable history with these medications. I previously reached out to a higher-level manager at the practice about similar concerns and received no response. By the looks of other reviews of this practice, echoing the same treatment by the SAME provider, this is clearly not a one-off situation for this provider. I have been a patient for years with no issues but now I've since decided to file a formal complaint with the Virginia Board of Medicine and have discontinue my care at this practice. If you're considering care here, especially for long-term medication management, I would recommend giving that a second thought. read more

I have recently felt the need to sign up for counseling to help me deal with the many life-issues I find increasingly complicated and discouraging. I actually dreaded making the phone call for those very same reasons, as customer service and office experiences today seem to be at an all-time low. With that said, I cannot say enough good things about Ally M who walked me through the entire process with incredible patience, encouragement, and knowledge. Under her gentle guidance I felt I was able to make the right choice for me and very much look forward to getting started. As a side note: I had to call back to ask a quick question when Rachel answered the phone - only to experience another absolutely pleasant and helpful encounter. These young women are outstanding representatives on the front lines of the Genesis Counseling Center Norfolk/Virginia Beach office for which I heartily commend them! read more

I was evaluated to have autism, anxiety, depression and ADHD, just as my medical history and other evaluations confirmed. I saw a therapist twice, who asked very uncomfortable and triggering questions that I totally did not expect, and ended up sobbing and shaking. I dont usually cry in my own company or anyone elses, but the questions were so prodding for someone that I had just met and I felt so sidelined as I was trying to do a good job answering them. I wasn't even sure why this new therapist was digging so deep immediately before I was ready but by the time I realized we needed to turn the conversation around somehow- she abruptly said, "I'm sorry our time is up" and ended the call. I was left a total wreck trying to process everything. I called a few months later to get an ESA letter for my animal. The lady who answers the phone was what you call "nice nasty". Just totally negative and uncooperative until I became frustrated and told her that I thought it was ridiculous. It is. It's ridiculous that these people are working in such a capacity and are clearly unqualified. The waitlist for evaluation was years long. Why would anyone want to pay so much and wait so long for emotional damage?! Why would anyone be willing to deal with such poor and unprofessional service. Run. read more

Laura Hermiz destroyed my son's life. I just don't know what else to say about that. She made a snap judgment that set forth a course of events that stole his youth. If she had taken the the time to talk with us, we would have made much better choices. She had known him for years. She purposefully frightened us into believing our son was in danger, and she called his school AND the police. We learned later via the medical psychiatrists that my son had never threatened anyone. He had never taken any actions nor had any plans to take action against anyone. He had scary thoughts that frightened him, and that is why he confided in her. The doctors have told us that based on working with Noah, they would not have recommended the course of action that Laura Hermiz did. Even the police told her that she had zero reason to call them or the school. She made a choice to act based on fear, shock and her own job safety. At first, I trusted her professional recommendations, and I tried to understand why she insisted on a particular course of action. However, the psychiatrists who are now handling my son's mental health say that her reasons were rash and were made out of fear of what could happen. She didn't even recommend him help that was close to our own home. She had known him for years. He missed out on his entire senior year. He didn't get to go prom. He didn't have a graduation ceremony. He had to get his GED which ruined his college prospects. He was given meds that caused him to be hospitalized at CHKD, and have caused damage to his motor function. He was an accomplished martial artist and was on his way to becoming a Kung Fu instructor before this happened. He tried three times to go to TCC, but couldn't handle the stress. He's currently with a professional psychiatrist who is working with a neurologist to undo the damage that has been done. Our family is just so lost right now. She has no idea what her choice did to a very promising young man, and to our family. There is no accountability for her or for Genesis. read more

Since I have come in contact with Melonie who work at the Chesapeake location, she has gone above and beyond. She is very clear and communicates in an organized manner, documents our conversations on your office system- to eliminate any confusion if I am to speak with another staff members, she remembers when we have spoke, even if weeks ago- before referring to her notes, goes to her notes to check her memory of the conversation, always follows through, double checks that we are on the same page and recaps before the end of our phone call. If she does not know how to accomplish something asked of her, she finds out how, double checks if it was correct and what I was requesting. Her integrity is outstanding and she helps above and beyond, keeping the situation calm and relaxed, doing more than I believe is expected of her. Thank you for having Melonie work at your office!
