I tried a few different stylists at Path, and while they were all really good, Ashley is amazing. First time she did my cut and color she was able to get my color exactly where I wanted it to be, and the cut was so flattering and a great update to what I had. She's also really nice, which you want when you're sitting there for a few hours. The second I found out she was opening her own spot, I knew I'd be following. Finding someone as awesome as Ashley isn't easy, and it was worth an extra 5-10 minute drive (or half an hour if that's what it took). The selfish part of me wants to keep her a secret, but she deserves success so book an appointment!

ATTENTION ALL WHITE GIRLS THAT HATE THEIR HAIR! Damn right, I did it. I got a white girl weave…read more Why? Because my real hair is stupid and I was tired of spending tons of money on it every 2 months [religiously] just to only love it for a day or two after I'd leave the salon. Don't take this review the wrong way - I absolutely LOVED my regular hair stylist that I had been using almost 4 years. It's not her fault that my real hair is dumb - she tried everything. Honestly. But there comes a point in time where self esteem starts to get the better of you as you age (and get pregnant, lol) and it's whether or not you're happy with how you look. If you have the opportunity to make yourself look and feel better, then do it! This is how I found Ms. Pamela Ashley, and I'm SO glad that I did :) I get my nails done at Harvey Hair & Nails every two weeks, so I inquired as to whether or not they knew of a place where I could get hair extensions. They have 2 girls that do them there! No way! So I looked up reviews on Yelp! to see if there were any. Pam had only ONE review, but it was 5 stars, so I was willing to give her a chance just because I honestly was too lazy to go all the way to Austin. I avoid going downtown like the plague. So I meet with Pam on Thursday at the shop and she gives me a consultation, then goes with me to pick out hair at Sally's (which I TOTALLY appreciated since I hadn't a clue what to buy). Friday morning I arrived at the shop at 10am. We did a conditioning treatment first just to help my poor hair get some type of strength before adding the weave. She started braiding around 11 (my entire head) and then sewed in the hair that I had purchased. Once all of the braiding was finished, she cut and styled it to my liking. The before and after pictures speak for itself. I am just AMAZED at how natural it looks! Pam is very professional, caring, obviously loves what she does for a living, and truly has helped me to feel beautiful (5 12/ months pregnant and all). So if you're the poor white girl that has extremely fine hair that loves to do whatever it feels like (especially in the summer heat of TX), then give Pam a call. You won't be disappointed! Thanks, Pam for everything! See you soon for a touch up!

Sure enough, Portia, studio owner, greeted me with a warm smile, had time to fit me in and had me take a seat. Portia is very talented and always knows just what I want. I'll take in a photo of the haircut I want and she gets it to a "tee". If I don't have enough hair for a particular style, we work together to grow, style, cut and in time, we get there. I hear she's equally talented with color application, though I've not had color treatment (yet). I've recommended friends who are "afraid" of seeing someone new and Portia "WOWS" them every time. Her rates are reasonable, she's established in a cozy niche in the North Loop area and is involved with bettering our community. She's working on expanding her studio, though sadly the remodeling project is at a temporary standstill. So, go see her, and tell all your friends. As soon as her expansion is complete she'll be offering massage and an array of other sundries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE 082209: Whoever owns the building at 207 E 53rd Street is obviously an unfair, underhanded landlord. I went to Portia at Good To Go Studio for years. In the last year she was SO excited as she rented the opposite corner of the building and had TWO spaces leased. After a great deal of remodeling, expense, and sheer excitement at expanding her business, seems the landlord got a better offer from "new, other" tenants and greed overtook his morals. Portia was evicted from the shop with no notice, and lost all of her investments into the recent improvement and remodeling and the additional space she had leased. This totally sucks. I heard through the grapevine that Portia was renting a chair in some shop out at Lakeline Mall, which ended up being temporary. Latest news is that she and her teen son moved to Oklahoma. Portia you are greatly missed. I've made a personal desicion to ban whatever present/future businesses exist at 207 E 53rd Street. My apologies to those renters/businesses that rent from the building owner. Beware of this building owner, you never know...one day YOU might show up to run your business and told you must leave with no notice! My decision to BAN this building is the only way I know how to NOT patronize the owner of this building in any way whatsoever.
