If you are considering having these folks build a pool for you, please consider this alternative…read more Locate a box of sharp tacks and a pair of shoes. Sprinkle tacks liberally in shoes, put them on carefully, then jump up and down! The pain will be about the same and it will be far cheaper. My contract specifies that the pool was to be completed by September, 2017; the contract specified "time is of the essence" since I had personal reasons, travel plans, etc. that were dependent on the pool being completed on time. The contract specified that any extra work was to be agreed in writing and signed off on by both parties. In February, 2018, almost 6 months behind schedule, the pool, still far from complete, these folks nevertheless presented me with a bill for about $15k in "extras" for which there was no agreement in writing or otherwise, and also demanded the final contract payment on the very much uncompleted pool. There were zero agreed upon extras and the pool was not functional on many levels including defective plumbing, defective, possibly illegal, electrical hookup [an unlicensed electrician was hired and all GFIs were removed post inspection]. The pop up self cleaning system was inoperable and had parts missing, the skimmers inoperable and apparently mis-plumbed to the water feature lines, the spa inoperable, spa jets uninstalled, the stone veneer work incomplete, the tile work incomplete and the paid for in advance extra of epoxy grout not used consistently, the water features not installed, and the pumps not wired into the pool control box, the control box not programed, certain specified equipment not installed etc. etc. among many other things. The only rational reason advanced by the builder for demanding inappropriate or premature payments was that he was losing money on the pool. Of course he was losing money! This was just about the most poorly organized fiasco I have ever seen, and I have been overseeing personal construction projects for 50 years, including the building of multiple in ground pools. This project takes the cake for incompetent management at every level. No formal construction plan/diagram was ever done on this over $100,000 pool project even though one was requested and one was promised. No plumbing or wiring diagrams exist. There is nothing on paper showing this pool beyond a rough idea sketch by my wife and a photo of a pool in a magazine that we wanted copied in most respects. It seems that no one including the owner knows what pipes are connected to what. It turned out that the skimmers didn't work because they were plumbed into the water features lines! Much of the plumbing had to be redone by someone else to get the pool to function even minimally. The owner, Dave Deaton, who I was promised would be on site every day, was barely ever there and his crews [the composition of which switched daily] often had little to no idea what they were supposed to do and, even when they did, they arrived on site without the right parts or right tools. Not only did the owner abandon the pool unfinished when I refused to make additional immediate payments until the pool was complete and operational, but, as best I can tell, he actively interfered with anyone else completing the job by removing certain critical parts from the job site including the chlorinator and the wiring harnesses for the 3 pumps, and by persuading the equipment manufacturers not to help me make their equipment function properly until he was "fully paid." I have had to secure and pay for materials and to hire and pay directly various other companies to finish the pool and install the water features that were all part of the contract with this company. Today is May 29, 2018 and the pool is still not finished or functioning properly and the spa will not hold water They were unable to start the pool pumps after the plaster work was completed, a crucial step to ensure the plaster cures properly, and I had to go out late on a winter night and purchase, then install 3 portable sump pumps to circulate the water in the pool on an emergency basis. The manager of the Florida company that supplied the plaster product warned me in no uncertain terms that if I didn't do this IMMEDIATELY the $25,000 in plaster would be ruined; this was after I specifically warned Dave Deaton that this was likely to happen and that he needed to be there to start-up at least one of the three pool pumps which he didn't do. In fact, it took many weeks to straighten out all the issues that prevented the pool from operating even minimally to circulate water. The work site was left a disaster zone and I have had to haul many loads of debris, chemicals, parts, leftover concrete and steel, various broken stuff etc. to the dump. The stone patio adjacent to the pool was ruined by their spilling chemicals/glues on it and tracking it around, and will have to be replaced.
