3 March 2021 Jeff got to me a message, after 9 pm, informing me that when we submit an application. It is good for rentals up to 3 months. This reassured me my money had not been wasted when I applied for a house the same day it went to an earlier applier. Thank you Jeff! Kudos to you! Thomas Plumlee read more

Do not rent from this so called business! i am not sure how they stay in business but i will never rent from them again. The lady down stairs sleeps all day, parties all night.. I have reported noise to Deca for the last 4 months now and they haven't done anything about it. I have recordings of all the noise that goes in after 11 pm, loud music, kids jumping and screaming. All Deca does is replies to my email and says it will be handled, however nothing is ever handled! I can have any peace in my apartment i pay $1150 for every month! They can't enforce any rules, they are careless and just want your money! Stay far away from them! read more

We toured a home today with Tasha. She was very helpful with her responses and the visit was worthwhile. Seeing the interior of the home helped us be more informed than just what we had seen online. Tasha was very pleasant to speak with and working with her, if it came to doing the paperwork and renting from Deca, would be a pleasure. She and the house both made a great impression. read more

We had an injured deer on our common ground and reached out for assistance. After several attempts to contact them, we were told in a very callous way that it wasn't in their contract. One of the worst experiences and most incompetent companies that I have ever worked with, and I still didn't even get my apartment yet, after signing the lease they pushed my moving date 3 times since last month(6/1|6/26|6/28), I shouldn't have to ask my current landlord for a month of extension, "it's simple if your property is not ready DONT RENT IT" today they contacted me with a third date for city inspection and can't even assure that it will pass, and when I demanded a solution because I have a moving company scheduled Morgan told me "well I didn't tell you to book a moving company!" and put me on hold and never picked up the phone again. You should be ashamed of this unprofessional level your company is functioning at, someone's living situation and housing is not a game. read more

Deca Property Management - Email from deca property - Property Management Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

They don't even deserve the one star... Current tenet here: I cannot stress enough to NEVER rent from this company. Even before we moved in, they were already screwing us over but we were in a situation that we needed a place to live and these slumlords was our only option. I think would have rather have spent money on a hotel to gives us more time so we didn't have to rush to get into a place but hindsight is 20/20 and lesson is learned. The location, the rent amount, whatever is selling you on one of their properties it is just not worth it. I promise you that. Few examples on why to never rent from DECA: -All of your electrical outlets may or may not work(We were using extension cords for our first 3 weeks so you can only assume things we're not looked at before we moved in) -Mold in the dishwasher(saw this after we moved in) -Tub was painted over with regular wall paint(and is now peeling) -Your rental will be filthy when you move-in(they don't clean before you move in) -They don't allow you to pay any other way but on-line but then charger $35 for a service charge to pay rent(I know I signed off on that but still very much BS) -Things get fixed on their time regradless of the important. Period. (Our fridge was out for days and is broke again for the third time) No matter how many times they say "we don't operate this way" that Is the exact way they do business. They are high end slumlords. I was going to wait to post a review because I think they are shady enough to make the next ten months hell but I cannot let someone else get involved with DECA. I am a complete stranger to everyone reading this but please, please, please take my word, you'll 1000% regret renting from this company. I hope this review leads you to finding a better home with a better rental company. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. Look at the other bad reviews. They're all honest. I moved into my apartment 2 years ago for a very affordable rate. When I arrived, the apartment was so dirty, I couldn't move anything in until I scrubbed every single surface. It looked like a can of paint exploded all over the floors. But I said nothing because it was very affordable. However, I found more issues everywhere I looked. Windows were cracked and held together with dirty bandaids. The toilet "chain" was actually a nasty shoelace. There was trash all over my apartment. Empty cans of paint, used roller brushes, etc. After SEVERAL weeks they finally fixed those few issues. Alas, more was to come. I tried to turn off the water to the toilet and found out the supply shut off did not work. I checked the others in my house and found more didn't work than did. I then decided to check the water main shut off and found that it was leaking and also does not shut off. Of course this is obviously an issue because should a fixture become damaged, I have no way to shut off any water. It has been an issue for months. In addition, there is major water damage in all places in the apartment. The paint is peeling and bubbling off the wall. I made these issues known and they send person after person after person and all they do is take a picture and then I never hear from them again. Of course, this level of disregard and disrespect is common with Deca. I have never received an apology from them for their lack of communication, the attitude from employees, nor for their lack of professionalism. A maintenance man let himself into my apartment while I was covid positive with no notice. I call and call and they say they will be back in touch with answers to my questions yet I never hear from them. On top of all the issues, they decided to raise the rent. I was paying a very affordable 475 and with no explanation, my lease renewal comes with a 36% increase to 650. For all of the issues I have? Absolutely not. Do not rent from deca and do not rent their properties on Michigan Avenue. The home owner is a slumlord. Oh, and this issue is not related to just my apartment. I toured a few more properties with deca and found them to be nasty and damaged. You would think the apartments would at least be clean if you're going to be giving tours, right? If deca would like me to take down my honest review, they can cover the additional 175 per month that my piece of shit apartment is being increased by :) read more

Discrimination at 7201 Gravois Rd: the ALL white Maintenance and Contractors are fixated on new tenants (especially the very heavy maintenance man). I would NOT rent from these people. You would think during the pandemic someone loses their job, that's not on a lease, that they would be compassionate and let them leave at the end of the month they became unemployed. Instead because by law we are supposed to give 30 day notice , not calendar, they lie about that. I have notice April 14th. Instead of prorating the rent for my move out 30 days from that date they FORCED me to pay for the FULL month of May. When I called the lady spoke with was not understanding and showed no empathy. Just threw at me "well by law you are required". They say they are a family business but they only care about their business and not their tenants. And how you as a business behave during a pandemic impacts your reputation as a company! Also, dont rent from the apartment building 6340 Sutherland Ave, St. Louis Hills. The plumbing system in the entire building needs to be replaced. The prior owner had a professional look at it and sold the building before fixing it and this company has done nothing since buying in December. I had my bathroom flooded twice from the apartment above sewage that came up the toilet whenever they flushed or showered. That will happen again until they completely replace the plumbing. Avoid renting an apartment there!! And they charged me cleaning fees for items that was NOT listed on their checklist. A read more

There is such a lack of communication and respect from this company that I can't even even begin to explain. It's is unfortunate because I love my apartment beside the gas leaking, unattended requests of services before moving in,the bathroom ceiling falling, the warped drywall leaking under the kitchen floor and the fact that the basement main water line is leaking and has no way to be turned off. The lack of concern and communication from the entire staff outside of rent request, removing negative posts and being condescending has never been something I thought would take so much of a mental toll on me. read more

It took over seven (7) weeks for an issue to be fixed because I was told that my repair request as an owner was 'put in the back burner' because 'they were short-staffed'. I can completely empathize with the fact that you are busy but to put my issue in the back burner for 2 weeks without letting me know is a complete failure in all counts. Here are the details: 3/26, 2021 - email from Realtor who works for DECA introducing the PM team as property firs took over by DECA 4/18/21: I emailed the whole PM team about an issue that tenant had brought up prior to me taking ownership of the property which was warping in one of the wall due and loose siding issue along with pictures of the issues taken by inspector for the loose siding. 4/19/21: Response from PM Marty that the issue would be addressed, and a service order would be in place. 4/25/21: A WEEK LATER - I emailed to follow up on issue since there were no updates or follow ups 4/26/21: got a response from PM Angela stating she would reach out to field supervisor and update me ASAP 4/28/21: email from PM Angela Velazquez that siding issue was fixed and appointment was set with tenant to assess wall warping issue. No update was provided or communication that the siding issue was indeed fixed, and no pictures provided. 4/30/21: I emailed to follow up on the all warping issue and asked for pictures of loose siding fix 5/1/21: PM Angela responded with pictures of siding issues. Also let me know the wall warping issue was assessed. 5/8/21 - A WEEK LATER, email from PM Angela and I responded to confirm if the warping wall was indeed caused by moisture as diagnosed or something else. 5/11/21 email from PM Angela - One of our field supervisors is going to go by and check on this issue. We will be back in touch with a more complete update soon. BY NOW IT HAD BEEN THREE WEEKS SINCE THE FIRST TIME I NOTIFIED PM OF ISSUES AND REQUEST TO FIX. 5/13/21: I emailed to follow up as there was NO CALL as promised after 5/11 visit with tenant from Chris 5/14/21: Chris and I talked after my email request a call ONCE AGAIN 5/17/21: Chris emailed letting me know the options to fix the moisture issues which I responded within a few hours of his email to go with OPTION 1. I responded about 2 hours later same day 5/17/21, let's go with option 1 5/19/21: Chris responded "We will get that going ASAP." 5/26/21: ONE WEEK LATER. No follow up or updates from anyone from the PM or maintenance team. I emailed the whole PM team again to follow up 5/28/21: TWO DAYS LATER. STILL NO RESPONSE. I called Chris. Left a message. I emailed again escalating the issue to the entire PM team (Marty, Frank, Angela, Chris) 5/28/21: I responded that I'd like to ask for the repair, a 50% discount is given and I'd like to pass it on to the tenant as a reduced rent for June for the inconvenience that this has caused them. 6/1/21: PM Angela responded to follow up on the issue now that I have escalated it up to everyone; completely disregard my request to give tenant a discount. No empathy, no sorry for what happened 6/2/21: I responded via email once again asking for a rent discount for the tenant and how the team has not been followed up and through with their promises. 6/2/21: email response from Angela PM - 6/3/21: Chris emailed with pictures of the moisture issue progress on the bathroom. We are scheduled with the tenant to go back 06/04 to make the final touch ups on the wall. 6/4/21: 7 WEEKS AFTER MY INNTIAL REQUEST WITH COUNTLESS EMAIL FOLLOW UPS FROM ME , the wall warping issue is now fixed. 6/8/21: Angela PM responded with final cost of the project because it was finally now done - STILL NO ACKNOWELDGE MY REQUEST OR PLAN TO GIVE TENANT A RENT DISCOUNT FOR THE INCONVENIENCE 6/8, 2021: - I emailed to terminate the contract - NO RESPONSE 6/10/21: I had to email follow up again asking for a confirmation from 6/8/21 that I wanted to terminate the contract. The entire time, the PM Angela complete disregarded my concern - no sorry, no empathy, no verbal or written email communication or detail of what was discounted in the repair price as promised by Chris. Most importantly, no regards to tenant's overall satisfaction since the issue was dragged out for 7 weeks with the bathroom wall opened. This, to me, is a complete failure on the PM company when it comes to tenant and owner satisfaction. It is ok for a fix to take long if it must but it took long in my case because they were short-staff and MY issue was put in the back burner on top of zero communication if it wasn't for my follow up is ABSOLUTEY UNACCEPTABLE. read more

Renters beware. With Deca, the property owner is the priority, not the renter. I'm writing this review as a renter, not a property owner. As a renter, this property management company is pretty bad. I've had numerous maintenance problems that have taken anywhere between 1 month and 1 year before the problem was resolved. When I used the "recommended" online system, I got no response for days on end. When I called to report the issue, the Deca representative told me "this is what it's like to live in an apartment." During the summer of 2022, my air conditioning went out four separate times, with each time requiring nearly a week to fix. I received no discount on my rent and again, was told that this is what it's like to live in an apartment. I tried to work my way up the chain of command to report both poor response time and poor customer service and received the same response. I finally found a phone number for what I think was the president of the company. No response. I have a sneaky suspicion that the goal of Deca is to do as little as possible for as cheap as possible to make the property owners happy. Do not expect a management company that is in your corner. read more

I dont rent from DECA My dearest friend rents. they rented a family of 4 (1 adult, kids 2, 4 and 2 month) live in the downstairs unit. she can't sleep at night she sits in her car until the lights go out in the house . The kids run through the house non-stop all night, and the mother bangs on something it's when they are there EXTREMLY loud. The noise echoes so loud. One day I stopped by to visit, it was so loud I started recording. i let our other friends hear this and it's crazy. Here's my problem it would be easy for DECA to evict her for complaints then the family of 4 because of the noise and property outside is so nasty. She can't afford to move so she call me crying, it disappointing they renting to family of 4 in a one bedroom from our conversations DECA has talked with this girl, but it makes it worse. who rents a one bedroom to a family of four. my friend is going insane, they need to do something. it use be a nice house now it looks like trash read more

Really terrible at responding to maintenance requests. My water main has been leaking for months and all they did was send 3 different guys out to take pictures. Not to fix anything, just to take pictures. They confused my maintenance requests with my downstairs neighbors as well, calling her in reference to my issues, which is a huge invasion of privacy in my opinion. They haven't fixed hardly anything else I have requested (like repairing holes in the walls and leaks that were there when I moved in) yet have the audacity to raise rent in the middle of a global pandemic. Now my bedroom light isn't working and I haven't heard anything from them. They are really unorganized, unprofessional, and clearly just money hungry. I would not recommend them whatsoever. read more

When I moved out of my apartment after four months I was told an appraiser would be going through the apartment, which I had no problem with as I left with very little wear and tear. The damage was minimal, and after moving out I expected to get at least half of my deposit returned. Apparently my entire deposit was non-refundable, also because they received my mailed keys a week after I moved out (counted as pro-rated rent when I already gave them two copies?). I also was charged $200 to paint the apartment after I left, which was very messily done before I'd moved in and looked the same when I left. I'd heard DECA will find any excuse to keep the deposit but I could not believe the arbitrary prices they used in order to avoid a refund. Also, the entire building was infested with roaches. I only got a notice for pest control once in the four months I was there. And the electrical box in the basement definitely poses a fire hazard. read more

Worse place EVER!! Stay away!! I lived there 2 years, always paid rent on time, never gave them any problems, when I did complain about maintenance issues they never got resolved; they would say oh they came and no one was home, when I was working FROM HOME and no one showed up, but get this then they tried to charge me for "missing" the visit from the contractors that NEVER CAME to my door, apparently they were knocking on neighbors door, which is a lie, I would have heard that too. Then they did like two inspections within like a week of each other, looked even inside my closets, pure harrassment to a middle aged, clean as a wistle lady. I don't know what they were looking for but I told them in no uncertain terms, they weren't going to find it at my apt. I recently purchased a house ( thank God I moved out of this rat infested hell hole) and I attended the walk through inspection, which the guy was impressed with how clean I left apt and appliances, I quote him "this is so clean, much more so than all other's I've seen today" and said I would have no problem to receive my deposit back in two weeks. It's been almost a month since I moved, I called the office and spoke to Angie who was quite rude and said the paper work hasn't been done yet, and that it takes a month to get deposit back, which is fine with me. Today I got an email from her with the closing statement, charging me for trash in front porch and surrounding areas, first off it's a 2 family apt building so front porch is common area and so are surrounding areas, I left no trash there or anywhere, IT"S A COMMON AREA!! find out who is throwing trash there IT WAS NOT ME! They also claim I left trash in cabinets, that is a lie, as I paid someone to help clean all areas of apt, I was there as it was done. In fact, as I pointed out to inspector, I left apt upgraded, when I moved in bathroom did not have shower rod, nor hand towel rod, I installed them and left them when I moved out. I left apt sparkling clean, and in good condition, better than what I found it but they still want to keep $160 of my deposit. It's not a lot of money but I will fight them on it, I stand on principle. I did everything by the book, I gave adequate notice, I had all areas of apt cleaned including all appliances, I left apt in better condition than was given to me, in fact they claim I left trash in cabinets, that is a LIE!! when I moved in there was old dishes/ pots and pans from old tenants that I THOW OUT MYSELF! Never once did I complain to them about the trash left there from former tenant, and now they want to say they have pics of trash I left?? oh hell no they better get ready for a fight in court, I don't care if it cost me more than what they want to keep from my deposit, its just disgusting what they are doing with me, as disgusting as their properties. See you in court Deca, I will win, I have my proof too! read more

My previous landlord decided to sell the property and the new owners decided to use Deca as a property management company. she was not a slumlord but whomever is the owner of this building now I don't care for and frankly just don't like them and I don't even know them. There was a situation where the main electric panel was melted and the owner of this property had taken a week and a half to decide whether they wanted to replace it or not even though it was a fire hazard and plugs were sparking and sizzling and lights were flickering, it didn't matter. The thing that bothered me the most is I am disabled and I have a small child, nine years old. why would you feel that it was OK to take a week and a half to make a decision about something that could cause a fire no matter who the tenant is it should've been replaced but seeing as how the tenant is disabled with a small child and may not be able to vacate the premises if there's a fire was my problem, that's a big problem. I am disabled, permanently, but at the time I had a broken leg so there was no moving quickly. It just made me extremely sad to know that there was someone out there who did not give a flying fuck about me or my child and whether we lived or died. read more

I can not speak on any property they manage other than the one at 4729 Morganford, but if I could give this apartment building and DECA zero stars I would. In the nine months my girlfriend lived there, there was roaches that were still there at the end of March, black mold that when we complained about, they just plastered over it, until we complained again. In that instance, the maintenance person literally left the supplies on the floor there when he or she was done. The neighbor in apartment 5 suffers from issues and has many people in and out of his apartment. Mostly drug addicts and/or homeless people but there was a prostitute or two at times as well. Because none of those people have a key, the lock on the "secure door" was always broken and rarely fixed. One guy in apartment 5 was dying, so the tenant knocked on my door panicking for help because hewere mentally incapable of handling the situation. The man ended up passing away, which I have to live with. You can't get WiFi in Apartment 6 either. On top of all this, they took my girlfriend's $425 deposit because she painted the walls. She did this because the formerly white walls were off white when she moved in. The only things they are good at are making excuses and being petty. If you had a child with asthma, Apartment 6 would literally put their life in danger read more

As a tenant, working with Deca has been challenging. Over a year after them taking over management of my building, I am still waiting for issues to be addressed. Multiple Deca employees (maintenance, property manager) have been in my home to do walkthroughs and noted the issues, but they seem to just fall off the radar. Unless I keep pressing them, nothing seems to get done. For example, I have correspondence with them dating back to Oct. 2016 letting them know that the wooden balcony and entryway were unsafe (wood rotting to the point of separating from the supports), as well as one burner on my range not working. Deck repair is finally scheduled for next week. This week, they set up a delivery of a new stove for Tuesday and no one showed up. I had to call to find out what was going on. Then they came Thursday with the wrong size stove - apparently no one thought to measure the space. They ordered a new one to be delivered today (Fri.) between 9-12, but once again, the delivery didn't happen as scheduled. And again, I had to call to find out what was going on. I'm not sure if it is laziness or incompetence. Renters be aware that maintenance, especially anything fairly 'major', seems to be slow and you may need to be your own advocate to get things done. I've never had a problem with their rent pay systems though, so unsurprisingly they are on top of that. read more

They recently purchased my building. I had an issue. It took multiple phone calls and emails to get a response. It has now been roughly 2 weeks since issue. They still do not have an answer to my issue or ability to direct me to someone who does. Any business professional would have been able to respond in a timely manner. I don't normally do reviews but I'm this case I had to. I rented from Deca for a year and it ended in May. I was moved in to a dusty apartment that was infested with rodents. I had already signed the lease therefore I cleaned the apartment myself as well and cleaned the kitchen and closets in other rooms that had rodent droppings. The stove, kitchen counters and the dish washer had rodent droppings I was never able to fully use the kitchen because I was discusted by it. I sent an e-mail asking for the stove covers and burners to be replaced because that is unsanitary and unsafe due to the rodent problem. I was not warned about it before moving in but I cleaned it up as much as I could and had to live with the rodents coming in the kitchen counters and stove. It took 2 times them coming out to find out we're the rodents were coming from. I have since moved and was not given back my full deposit due to leaving the stove burners detached after I asked for a replacement and that never happened. I cleaned the place before I left and left napkins and sponges and spray that I used for cleaning the place. I left the apartment better than what it was when I moved in I hope they warn the next person about the rodent problem. The company does not care about my experience when I rented and is not taking into consideration the issues that I had when I lived there. I was not going to write a review but I did not get my entire deposit back and that's just unfair. I was a great tenant there were no complaints from my downstairs neighbor that were elderly I actually used to check up on them to make sure they were ok.
