They arrived on time, did a thorough job, and got stains that had been there for a long time.

As the years passed, Snowy experienced other issues with his heart, cognitive functioning, and balance As he was aging. I've always felt that the clinic staff and Dr Di Maio truly cared about Snowys well-being. Last Friday I had to make the extremely difficult decision to euthanize Snowy his quality of life rapidly declined. This was the most painful and hard decision I've had to make I couldn't see him suffering. Dr.Di Maio was kind, compassionate explained every step during the process. I have never had an issue with the medical care I've received, and I will absolutely continue bringing my dog here because of them. That being said, my experience with the receptionist has unfortunately been very different. There have been multiple occasions where I've called and felt that she was rude, had an attitude, or spoke to me in a condescending manner. I've let it go several times because I'm not someone who likes conflict, but today was the point where I felt I needed to say something. I called last minute to see if there was any possibility of getting an appointment, and I completely understand that scheduling can be difficult. However, when I asked how long I could expect to be there and to ensure I was getting an appointment with the actual doctor because I needed to coordinate work, my kids, my pets, and everything else that comes with managing a household, I was told, verbatim, "I don't have to explain my scheduling to you," in a very condescending tone. I wasn't asking her to explain or justify the clinic's scheduling. I was simply trying to get an idea of how long my visit might take, especially because there have been times when I've had an appointment and ended up being there for over an hour. As a client juggling a lot of responsibilities, having an estimate helps me plan. I am always polite and respectful when I speak with staff, even when I'm frustrated. And having worked in customer service and previously worked at the front desk of a veterinary hospital myself, I know that things can get busy and stressful. But there is still a basic level of professionalism and customer service that should be maintained. I truly love the doctors and techs here and have nothing but good things to say about the care they provide. I just hope the front-desk experience can improve, because the way clients are spoken to matters too. Great medical care deserves great customer service to match.

I took her to SMAH and was absolutely blown away by Dr. Ortiz! Not only was empathy shown and patience had, the way she spoke to my friend was with nothing short of genuine compassion and concern. Fast forward, I have been summoned to take my friend to SMAH a few more times since. Every time, I am impressed with the professionalism and patience. They have managed to "fit" her in when she is "concerned" and do not judge or overcharge. Dr. Ortiz has taken a knee multiple times to enable my friend to hear and understand her. That is excellent senior client service. My friend is amazing, feisty and a bit demanding at times (85 earns you that right), but they handle it with grace and a smile. So, thank you to the team at the SMAH and especially Dr. Ortiz! I am throughly impressed!

We had been bringing our dog to San Marin Veterinary Hospital for years and had always appreciated…read morethe care we received. Because of that long relationship, what happened during our dog's final days was incredibly disappointing. After learning that our dog had terminal lung cancer, we were devastated and desperately looking for guidance from a veterinarian who knew his history. We weren't seeking treatment--we simply needed help understanding our options and support as we faced one of the hardest decisions a pet owner can make. The following day, I called multiple times asking to speak with a veterinarian. Each time I was told someone would call me back, but no one did. Instead, I was eventually told the next available phone appointment was several days away, despite explaining that our dog was terminally ill and rapidly declining. To make matters worse, the receptionist I spoke with during my final call was dismissive and lacked compassion. During one of the most heartbreaking moments of our lives, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing the staff simply by asking to speak with one of the veterinarians who had cared for our dog over the years. Our dog passed away before we ever heard back. This experience was incredibly disappointing. After years of trusting this practice with our dog's care, we expected compassion and support when we needed it most, and unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. Because of what happened, we would encourage others to carefully consider their options when choosing veterinary care, especially if compassionate communication during difficult moments is important to them.

We feel so fortunate to have found West Marin Pet Hospital…read more The vet, Dr Redfield, the front desk staff, and the vet techs have all been so wonderful with our sweet golden girl, Twinkle. And, they've also been wonderful to us. Everyone that we have interacted with seems so good at what they do, and they are so gentle and sweet with Twinkle. I feel like at other veterinary practices that I've been to over the decades of pet ownership, it's the vet that's great but the staff is rude, or the techs are nice but the vet has no bedside manner, or some other unfortunate scenario. But, here, it really is just a breath of fresh air with the level of skill, the professionalism, and the pleasant ambiance. We completely trust them with Twinkle's care, and highly recommend them to any pet owner.

I've had two separate negative experiences at this practice, and I feel compelled to share them…read more The most recent involved a bill of over $400. I had specifically requested the most comprehensive urinalysis available, because I had explained detailed concerns about my dog's health. What I received was a basic analysis -- and my dog didn't even have a UTI. The bill also included two small bags of supplements. When I asked for the test to be repeated correctly, or for a partial refund of $237 for the analysis I didn't receive, my request was ignored. I'd strongly recommend checking the details of any test results you receive here -- and comparing prices online before accepting any service or product. My second concern is far more serious. For over a year, my dog was limping. During multiple visits, the vets here observed her walking in and still only prescribed pain pills and anti-inflammatory medication -- never investigating further. No one identified the damaged cruciate ligament she had been walking on, in pain, for all that time. When I finally met the owner to explain the situation, she kept her back to me the entire time, never once looked at my dog, and sent us home with more pills. After years of unnecessary suffering and thousands of dollars wasted, I took my dog to UC Davis Veterinary. When I described her symptoms over the phone, they immediately suspected the cause, scheduled the right diagnostics, and confirmed the problem. My dog underwent a delicate surgery that, thankfully, went well -- despite the condition having been ignored for so long. Products here are also priced two to three times above what you'd find online. You are paying top dollar for a very high level of care that, in my experience, you are not receiving.
