I had the almond Doberge. I can say that this was one of the best cakes I've ever had. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and flavoring. Not to much and not to little. I plan on getting more every time I visit New Orleans in the future. I wish there was an actual storefront though. read more

We ate dinner at Toups Meatery tonight and instead of eating meat at the meatery, I opted to order one of each of the Debbie Does Doberge slabs of cake for dinner. They were all fabulous! Key Lime, Whoopie Pie, and Salted caramel with peanut butter and bacon. The Key Lime was my favorite. read more

I so wanted to love this business. The menu of cakes is such that I would have liked to order one a month just so that my family and I could sample all the flavors. But alas, it was not meant to be. It all started with a Facebook post advertising her King Cake Doberge cakes that could be purchased whole at the retail establishment "Bakery Bar". The Facebook posts indicated that the cakes were available "first come, first served" each morning at the bar. The website indicated that the only way to order a cake is to do so 4 days in advance. My son's birthday was two days away - so the very next day I drove to the Bar only to learn that they had sold out. The staff there said "come back at 5 o'clock - we'll have more cakes". So I went again at 5 o'clock only to learn I was too late - all of those cakes had sold too. The staff this time said "come back tomorrow, we open at 10 and we'll have more cakes". So the next morning I headed down to the bar at 9am. I wanted to be as close to the front of the line as possible. By 9:15ish there were six of us in line (I was second). One from as far away as Mississippi. At 9:30 a bar employee came out and very rudely reminded us "we don't open until 10". We know - but we all wanted a cake. At around 9:55 the owner came out and told us that this morning the King Cake Doberge would only be sold by the slice! If we wanted a whole cake we could try back at 5 in the afternoon. But they had so many orders and were so overwhelmed with demand that they wouldn't sell whole cakes that morning. Wait!!! What? So we asked can we get put on a list? Can we prepay for a whole cake and come back to pick it up at 5? No we were told. If you want to buy it now you have to buy by the slice. Or you can take a (fat) chance and come back at 5. So because I needed a cake that day I bought a "whole cake" - by the slice. The advertised price of $50 for the cake was now $84. Pretty shrewd business people don't you think? Advertise an item that you then can't keep up with demand for - so instead of honoring their prices and their advertisement they decided to bait and switch or con their customers into giving them an additional $34. Yes, I'm a fool. Yes I paid $84 for a $50 cake. Will I patronize this establishment again? NOT A CHANCE. To steal from your customers is an abomination. This is not a way to build a following. This is not the way to grow your business. I guarantee you that all of us that were standing out there on Sunday morning (when it was 32 degrees) would have been life long adoring customers had the business honored their advertisement. But no - greed won out. So be warned and beware this is a very unscrupulous business. read more

We were sitting eating a piece of Debbie Does Doberge cake....caramel, bacon and whiskey...at 12 Mile Limit the other night and my ex pat compadre from Texas said she couldn't wait for the next wedding or family reunion so she could order this cake...."It is the best cake in a four state radius...better than sex!", I said..."well close to it". So I didn't wait...the next day I called adorable baker Charles...who also moonlights as a "hot" damn good barkeeper at 12ML when he isn't baking awesome Doberge...."sure we can have an 18 inch round, 8 layer salted caramel with chocolate icing cake ready for you tomorrow at 2"....that's what the Big Easy is all about!!!!! I haven't stopped getting texts this morning from all my friends who ate this cake last nite....Go get in that numbah! read more

Decadent and delicious- it's seriously one of the best desserts in New Orleans! The Wedding Cake and I Used to be Thin Mint are to die for!

Ordered a cake online. Didn't receive a confirmation email so I called twice and left 2 voicemails asking to call me back with confirmation and emailed the email address listed on the website asking for confirmation. Did not get a reply from any of those. Showed up on the date I selected to pick up the cake (Sunday) and it wasn't made. They were able to find my order but was told that they wouldn't have it ready until at least Tuesday. I told them to cancel my order in that case and left. I decided to go back in a few minutes later and look at the dobite options as an alternative. They didn't have flavor a I was interested in so I left again. Come to find out they have pre made whole cakes you can buy. Neither of the 2 employees mentioned this to me after realizing that my order wasn't ready. What kind of customer service is that?! So now we are on our way there for the third time today. I just ordered another cake this morning for my son's birthday at the end of the month which. I hope that is a better experience. read more

First of all let me say I am New Orleanian born and raised. So when you say the word Doberge to me I see Gambino's in my head. At least that was the case until a few nights ago when my "Bestie" came into town for my belated birthday visit. I was told there would be a surprise but didn't know what it was. After checking into our hotel and having a late afternoon lunch we made the short trek over to S. Telemachus and stopped at this little corner place to pick up my surprise. When my friend got back into the car she handed me the box and wished me a Happy Birthday. When I opened the box for a little peek, my mouth immediately began to water. The smell was starting a party in my mouth and I hadn't even had a bite yet. There were six of those beautiful little chocolate pyramids in there and each one was singing a little tune to the chocolate fiend that was suddenly doing the cajun two step in my stomach. I'll get to the good stuff now...remember that party that started when I first open that box? From the first highly anticipated bite to the final licking of the gold paper cupcake doille was sort of like a religious experience. I was in doberge heaven! My "Bestie" is a foodie and from Philly. How did she find out about this before I did? It doesn't matter, the point is I know now and won't soon forget. I also understand that their customer service is great! So from now on my doberge fix will come from Debbie's and I will be happy to pass the word along to friends far and wide. My only problem now is after writing this I'm having a serious craving for one of those delicious little chocolate doberge pyramids and I'm all out. read more

I'll go along with pretty much every other review and do nothing but rave about these cakes. We are pretty much obsessed with them at work and have ordered quite a few between all of the girls there. I had asked my husband what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and he said a doberge with caramel and chocolate puddings. I thought I'd have to make my own (probably a frustrating process for a non-baker!), but decided to maybe call around and see about what could be done. Looked at prices for the local well-known establishments and was floored. Searched for doberge in New Orleans and found Debbie Does Doberge. I loved the site and the concept and really appreciated being able to help a local business with great reviews. Called up Debbie Does Doberge and spoke with Charles. He was very helpful and accommodating and I was impressed with the quality/price value. My husband, our friends and I were thrilled with how delicious this cake was! SO GOOD! At our wedding, we had "dobites" and "salty cake balls" instead of one large cake. Chris at Debbie Does Doberge was friendly, helpful, and organized. The prices were reasonable. The desserts were fantastic! They even had the pedestal and base we needed to put the desserts out on. Awesome local company I would not hesitate to use every time. read more

I am sad to be so disappointed. I had ordered a cake for a birthday and my order was overlooked even tho I had offered to pay upfront to ensure production. I was really shocked at how unbelievably rude the guy was on the phone to me about his mistake! I was essentially lectured about how "this happens all the time" and he was talking over me and interrupting me, it was an awful conversation to be having when you are on your way to what is supposed to be a celebratory occasion. So he needs to learn to be more congenial when breaking bad news, customers will forgive mistakes if you act apologetic and not like an ass. So in a bossy demeanor, he offered "free delivery" to the restaurant and was going to whip a cake up within an hour. Sadly, the only thing I ended up being pleased with was that we had a cake to serve. Kind of like that scene in MadMen when Betty had to embarrassingly serve up that sad icebox cake for Sally's birthday. The cake that was delivered was a gloppy mushy mess and was missing the alternating flavor layering we had requested. It was a tossed together cake and it showed. I dont even think the cake part was even fully cooked and the pudding layers were still runny, so you can imagine he whole thing was just a pile of mush on plates. I was so embarrassed! We have actually heard such great reviews and the unique flavors sounded so delicious . We had attempted once to try a slice from Toups Meatery, but we were so stuffed from dinner we had to pass. So we were very excited to order one for a birthday, only to then be let down in such a hard way. read more

Our son, recently graduated from college in CT, has moved this summer to NOLA to teach in a wonderful inner-city school where the dedicated staff works virtually year-round. Since it was his birthday, From here in Jackson, MS, I decided to surprise him with a cake delivered to his school for all to enjoy. Sounds simple enough, but no! After phoning several well-known New Orleans bakeries, they all inexplicably turned down the order altho I was more than anxious to pay their cake price plus a $25-35 delivery charge. One surly man informed me, altho I was calling early for a mid-week order, that he was accepting no orders of any kind for the rest of the week! I had almost given up on any NOLA bakery wanting/needing my business when I ran across a glowing Yelp review of Debbie Does Doberge which gave me some renewed hope. I left a voice mail and emailed. Minutes later, I received a cell phone call from Charles, happily announcing, as did his email, that he and his baker were going to make my wish for my son come true! Could this possibly be happening?! Not only did they skillfully make & design the most beautiful & luscious DOBERGE (not just ANY cake, mind you!), but they customized it with his name, school name & classroom mascot -- a purple pelican! -- as requested. This masterpiece was delivered on the appointed day/hour, much to the delight of our son & his new colleagues. He texted me a pic of the cake, later adding, "Everyone says it's the BEST cake they've ever eaten!!" And coming from a bunch of New Orleanians, that says quite a lot. All I can add is THANK YOU again, DDD, for going far beyond what was required -- and all for under $50 -- including delivery! Oh! And Charles even told me he was including a "Love, Mom" card on the box & he also, astoundingly, tried to talk me out of ordering the large-size cake! You, DDD, were the "icing on the cake" -- so to speak -- for our son's first, very memorable b'day in his new home. I am singing your praises to all of our MS friends as is our son to his new NOLA friends. You are a rare "business with a heart" -- not to mention "the best cake in New Orleans!" What a combination!
