Been wanting to stop here for years now, passed this place often when I was working out in NOLA, but never stopped. Went by the other day just to see what the hype was all about. Yea it was a 50/50 for me, honestly. Got 4 doughbites (basically a petti four sized piece of cake) and one slice of boozy cake and it was $26! Way way way overpriced in my opinion and for the flavor of it all, honestly Rouses has better tasting petti fours and Dorignac's has better tasting doberge cakes. The boozy $12 per slice cake just tasted like a churro w cinnamon and couldn't actually taste whatever alcohol was used to make it. If I make a rum cake at home for Xmas, you can definitely tell I have rum in there. This was the only and last time we will stop by for $30 cake. If you like trendy, overpriced cake, this could be your place to go. read more

Debbie Does Doberge is one of the best and most creative bakeries with respect to doberge cakes. They have an array of flavors for every palate i closing chocolate, lemon, meter, red velvet, etc. When ordering cakes staff has always been helpful and when I've been in a pinch they've been helpful with getting me whatever flavor they had prepared. DBD has been operating within Bakery Bar which is a super cute location in a small renovated building where you can have drinks, dessert, and even food options. read more

Celebrated a friend's birthday in town and opted for the classic local cake. Pros: - Seamless online ordering, responsive phone service for changing pickup times - Very friendly staff - The birthday girl and the group enjoyed the cake, though I found it a bit too sweet for my taste. - The 6" half lemon/half chocolate definitely serves more than 6-8 people Cons: Not my preferred type of cake, but still glad I gave it a try read more

Came to see what the hype was about at bakery bar and I must confess this visit and subsequent review is solely based on their cake bites. The employees there are attentive and pleasant mannered. Also the place was dimly lit which really set a good vibe at the bar. As for the cake bites, they are about 1" squared in size and $3 a piece... We got 6 pieces all different flavors and paid around $20 including taxes. So already I'm staring at what looks like a small piece of cake that I paid $20 for. I ate the Oreo one first and was overwhelmed by the sweetness of the frosting that coated the outside of the cake bite. The ratio is definitely off. You can't even discern the different flavors of the bites because of the overwhelming sweetness of the frosting. It's a hard pass for me on their cake bites. read more

We ordered 200 "dobites" and one 6-inch Doberge cake for our wedding on April 11. They were amazing! We knew they would be delicious (we've been big fans of Debbie for a while), but our guests loved how they could mix and match flavors. We had a lot of guests from out of town who thought the cakes were so unique and delicious, and are jealous that they don't live closer! Picking up the cakes was super easy. They were delivered to a drop off location near us two days before the wedding, and we took them to the reception venue from there. The cakes held perfectly in the fridge for two days - no issues with leaking or melting. The folks at Debbie Does Doberge also took the time to call us and discuss the decorations in detail, since we mentioned that the cakes were for a wedding. They were able to do some custom flowers for the 6-inch cake we were cutting, and it looked amazing! All in all, we cannot recommend Debbie Does Doberge enough for any events you might have, or even if you've just had a long day and want a slice of cake :) read more

Excellent place when you're craving doberge cakes and sweets. Full bar to wash down the sweetness you're about to devour. This out of towner will definitely be back. We traveled to New Orleans as a family to celebrate three birthdays, so I did some research to figure out where I could get a cake and came across Debbie Does Doberge. I was so excited about this New Orleans specialty and the variety of flavors to choose from. It was super easy to place my order online ahead of time and select Bakery Bar as my pickup location. The cake was ready for pickup on the date that I requested and the entire process was seamless. My biggest regret from the entire trip is that I forgot to take a photo of the cake - it was just gorgeous! We ordered the Spiked Samoa flavor and it was a huge hit with our group. I am not really a cake person, but I loved this unique and delicious treat. Highly recommend! read more

This cake is everything! My dad requested I get a cake from his favorite bakery in Baton Rouge which I found out was closed. He requested a half lemon half chocolate doberge cake. Now I don't remember these from my childhood but when I asked my mom she too was all excited. We had done Debbie's cakes one year at my job when were doing cake tasting, so I ordered a lemon one for Easter. I caught my dad licking the fork when he was finished, so I guess it's safe to say he really enjoyed it. I sent two pieces home with my son and my mom, his grandma ate both pieces. Winning read more

Debbie Does Doberge - a cake with congratulations written on it - Bakeries Near Me - Kenner, Louisiana

As much as I love actual king cake, the king cake doberge bites may be the best king cake I have ever put in my mouth. Because they are individually made, they tasted as fresh as the day I picked them up several days later. The cream cheese flavor is absolutely perfect- not too sweet, just sweet enough. Incredible. Not to mention so pretty and elegant! The peppermint bark bites were a wonderful treat on Christmas Day and again very balanced in flavor. The triple chocolate is the intense chocolate explosion you're looking for. There are so many more flavors I want to try in addition to doberge shakes, which look amazing (highly recommend following DDD on Instagram). read more

I am a true sweets lover, so I had high expectations of their doberge. I am sorry to say that they were so sweet that you could not taste the flavors underneath. A little better balance between sugar and labor would go a long way. read more

As the name suggests, this is all about (Doberge) cake. And it's really, really excellent cake, conveniently available, with good service, at a good value. What more could be asked for from a cake shop? I've tried about a half dozen flavors, all have been very good. I think the best (to my surprise) was the peppermint -- which, if I remember correctly, is actually a red velvet cake with peppermint. The lemon is also memorable, whether on its own or with a (at-home) topping of blueberries. The only flavor I felt at all disappointed with is chocolate, even though chocolate is my favorite kind of cake... it wasn't bad, but just tasted more like a normal chocolate cake... if you're in the mood for chocolate, I'd recommend the "black and gold" instead, basically the chocolate cake with salvaged caramel added. (Credit to the staff: both peppermint and black-and-gold were recommended by the server. They were right on both counts!) They do have some other items (cookies, cookie sandwiches, cakes with alcohol) that I'd like to try eventually, too. read more

This is NOT a doberge cake. I'm in my 50's and have been eating doberge since I was a kid. We ordered a cake from here based on reviews to be sorely disappointed. The chocolate filling isn't chocolaty. It was bland, light brown (more like tan) and had the texture of vinyl. The lemon side had similar texture and poor flavor, though better than the chocolate. The cake itself is just a plain cheap tasting sponge cake. Again, not a doberge style. And finally, the icing was more of just regular icing and not very close to a doberge type icing. Overall the cake seemed like it was made from cheap, poor quality ingredients, but it cost $80 bucks. Pretty lame. read more

Thanks to my Yelp buddies I learned about Debbie Does Doberge and where to obtain this delicacy! A college friend of mine who lives in Canada was in town and we decided to go to Toup's for dinner to catch up. Before we even ordered appetizers I informed my friend and the waitress that we were definitely getting a slice of Debbie Does Doberge cake! Now I'm not normally one to order desserts much less rave about them (with the white chocolate bread pudding at the Palace Cafe and the bread pudding with whiskey sauce from Desire as exceptions) but the salted caramel bacon Doberge cake was out of this world! OMFG, our sweet waitress told me about the other different flavored they've had like pistachio (yes please!), Red velvet (heck yeah even though I know it's just chocolate cake dyed red), etc. Would it be wrong to go to Toup's just for dessert! I mean Toup's is fantastic (review forthcoming) but I can see this being a decadent treat after a hard day! Happy Doberge eating!! read more

Items Tasted: Sweet Potato Pie Doberge Slice Turtle Doberge Slice Rainbow Wedding Cake Doberge Slice Velvet Elvis Doberge Bite, Bloody S'mores Doberge Bite, Fig and White Chocolate Doberge Bite One of those "why didn't someone think of this sooner?" situations, where a simple conversation hatched a business plan that somehow found an audience, Debbie Does Doberge is owned by the team of Charlotte McGehee and Charles Mary, their take on New Orleans' classic layer cake previously sold only by pre-order now offered by the slice at the couple's "Bakery Bar." Surely an interesting idea, the former dive at 1179 Annunciation Street just beneath the Pontchartrain Expressway reinvented as a place for "Sweets and Drinks" from before noon until midnight daily, Bakery Bar initially opened as the official point-of-sales for Debbie Does Doberge in April 2016 and now joined by a limited selection of savories the small corner-store has officially caught fire, the space nearly 2/3 full at the time of our Thursday 4:00pm arrival. Far more appealing in appearance than the pudding cake from Joe Gambino's, the texture also better with smooth Buttercream dividing soft layers as stiffer, boiled Icing helps each wedge hold its form, Ms. McGehee follows a modified version of the Hungarian Dobos Torta recipe 'invented' by Beulah Ledner during the Great Depression in building her creations, a half-dozen or more flavors offered daily by slice or as small pyramidal 'bites' for the indecisive. Making difficult decisions to maximize variety, three slices and a trio of bites shared amongst the group, even the most ardent descendent of Hungary would be hard-pressed to claim "Debbie's" cakes anything short of excellent, the Rainbow-themed Wedding Cake as sweet as it was colorful while the "Sweet Potato Pie" was completely opposite the heavy Southern Classic in terms of texture, though the flavor was precisely like it. Having just passed Halloween, "Bloody S'mores" both Cocoa-rich and nicely accented with Cinnamon at the same time, equally complex pairings were found amidst the Peanut Butter and Banana bite as well as the White Chocolate coated Figgy Pudding, the best of the best nonetheless agreed upon by all as the Pecan-studded Milk-Chocolate slice with lightly salted Caramel. read more

I couldn't have been more excited when Charles of Debbie Does Doberge told me, despite 12 Mile being closed for renovations this past weekend, that Triple Ds was still rollin' out their delicious Doberge cakes. My sister who resides in Portland and is getting married in September had a crawfish boil for friends and family down here that couldn't make the trip, and this traditional New Orleans layered cake was exactly what I wanted for them to enjoy. I looked on their website (which looks great in mobile view) to prep my order to call it in on Thursday to be ready for Saturday. Charles was super pleasant, and let me know what information he needed to make it happen. We ordered 2 8" cakes for $40/each, one Red Velvet and one Chocolate, which they estimate to be between 12 -24 slices depending on how you're...well...slicing. Since 12 Mile wasn't open at the time, they offered free delivery. I asked them to deliver between 10 and 1pm, and they arrived somewhere in between, but had also shot me a phone call to let me know they were on their way. The cakes...Y'all... A thing of beauty as you can see by the pictures. I was slicing and dicing like a ninja till the Red Velvet was but crumbs and the Chocolate was on its way. I've never seen so many adults look at me with the same eyes a kid gives an ice cream truck man. I did get a slice, and the cakes were moist, flavorful, and perfect for the occasion. My only regret is not ordering bigger cakes...and milk. Definitely have some ice cold milk on hand! Just a word of advice, make sure to have a really good cake server utensil. Mine wasn't the best and the layers suffered on occasion into a mass pile of layers (though ya know that's still delicious!) I can't wait to have another occasion to order from DDD, and try some of their other flavors! read more

Oh, yum! I love doberge cake and I've even made one...ONCE. (It was chocolate in case you're wondering and tasted delicious but wasn't so pretty.) And, man, this is a genius business. Seriously, go stalk some cake immediately! As others have said, you have to stalk her cakes. I've seen slices for sale at WINO, 12 Mile Limit and over the weekend at Toups Meatery. So so tasty. Friday night we had a slice of pistachio (the favorite) and thin mint (freakishly cookie-like); both were gobbled up and rated highly by our entire table. Right now, the business only has a FB page, but is launching a real live webpage "soon." Evidently they had a hacking incident a year ago...so soon is relative. read more

I'm actually really impressed with the cakes from DDD. We came in a few days early to try their cake bites and really appreciated their flavors. Their s'more petit fours taste basically like chocolate cake, but the others we tried (lemon, cinnamon, etc) were all rather delicious. You can't order a cake in store (you have to do it online) but that's fine. The cakes are well decorated and really moist. I'd say they're worth the price for a birthday celebration or holiday occasion. Try their cinnamon cake it's to die for. read more

Wow, what great cake. I've tried many of the different do-bites and salty balls at Twelve Mile Limit - all are fantastic but the doberge cake is truly beyond description. We served the Peanut Butterscotch, Lemon, and Chocolate Raspberry doberge cakes at our wedding reception and received comments of "Wow", "OMG", and "That's the best wedding cake I've ever eaten... except mine, of course." ;) Honestly, a bunch of people told us they had 3 and 4 slices of cake at the wedding - one person loved the lemon so much she apparently had 4 slices of lemon and never even made it to try the other flavors. Most wedding cakes are crazy expensive yet how many really taste great? Not many, unless of course you've ordered from Debbie Does Doberge. If you're looking for the best, you've found it - either special order by calling your personal cake concierge Charles (who doesn't make the cakes but will ensure you get what you need) or get some while hanging out at Twelve Mile Limit. Just be aware that moderation is required lest you invariably slip into a sugar coma afterward. Pricing is extremely reasonable, especially given the amazing quality and flavors, and you can get cake(s) delivered for an extra $25 or even rent stands for display. Just be aware that you'll probably never go back to "regular" cake... read more

Strike 3.. you're out! This is the third disappointment from DDD. I recently purchased a chocolate, caramel pecan cake and it was a disaster. I will certainly find another baker for my holiday deserts... read more

Last week I ordered a carrot cake for a birthday dinner while we were visiting NOLA. We took care of the ordering and payment over the phone and email, and it wall was seamless and easy. On the day of pickup, there was a massive thunderstorm that flooded the streets by our hotel. So, after that I had a mad scramble to get to their place and pick up the cake before they closed. Everyone I spoke with was very gracious and kind, and they even kept the doors open a few extra minutes so I could get the cake. Excellent and courteous service. Finally - the cake was delish!! It was 7 layers of delicious carrot cake goodness. The cake was really moist, and the cream cheese icing was perfect and so yummy. I highly recommend their cakes. read more

Debbie does what? Wait, Dallas? No, Doberge, Rose, Doberge. It's a cake thing.... Is it? Wait, they had to know about Dallas... This is a joke, or is it a bakery? Uh, well, their website looks legit... So, this was the conversation I was having the entire time i caroused their website looking for a cake to order for my friends birthday, while in New Orleans. Just order cupcakes was my initial thought, then I saw Debbie Does Doberge (D3) and their list of cake flavors and options. Sign me up! A Bloody S'more! That's right up our alley. Red Velvet cake with everything that makes a smore a smore! Yes, Please! I ordered the cake about 2 months before our arrival date. Online system was easy enough. I ordered a small cake, hoping it would be enough for 3 guys and the 2 girls. It was PLENTY! The cake was light and airy. Everything else was a perfect combination of chocolate, marshmallow and graham crackers. I couldn't have asked for anything better. They delivered the cake to the B&B we were staying at. Called me to confirm delivery and who they dropped it off with and what the directions were. Never had a bakery do this. Now that's some food love for you. I've said plenty of times on my reviews, if you are passionate about your work, whether it's food, tangible services or intangible service, if you love it, people will know. Well, D3, I can tell your website story is true. No fluff (unless it's marshmallow fluff) no exaggerations. Just love and cakes. The cake was just sweet enough to tolerate one slice, but that's it. It's one you know if you over indulge, then your diabetes will act up and you will be in a sugar coma for a week. The 3 (large) guys only had one piece. it took the entire weekend for us to (partially) finish it. I was sad. This cake that brought joy into so many of our lives was gone. Gone, like the weekend. We love D3 so much we're going to order another cake for our birthday celebration in Nola in January. I'm not one to be a repeat visitor/customer when there are many options around, BUT, if you find a jewel like D3, there's no way I'm passing up an option to have another piece. Different flavor, yes! Thank you D3 for your awesome cake. It made our friend almost cry because it was so cute (and good)! read more

Communicating with them and doing the tasting was flawless and they exceeded my expectations. The cake was delicious, unique, and gorgeous. I got so many compliments following my wedding! We chose alternating Velvet Elvis and Praline. My cake was a beautiful white and gold mixture and they even put in a topper I requested. It fed around 160 people and I had plenty left over. I had high hopes for the triple chocolate Doberge cake I ordered for my dad's birthday. However, when I picked it up, there was no writing or roses on the cake even though we had requested such decorations. The cake was completely bare. Not too exciting for a birthday celebration! A member of the staff was kind enough to offer a paper decoration to place on the cake. Unfortunately, that wasn't the only issue. As we began eating the cake, my dad mentioned that the filling was icing and NOT pudding as it should have been. The birthday boy's favorite cake is Doberge so it was quite disappointing when what we ordered was not as advertised or how a Doberge is made. So we paid over $45 for a bare cake without the requisite pudding layers. :( read more

Holy cake heaven Batman. I had my first Doberge experience the other day and I don't think I will ever be able to eat regular cake again. 8 layers of cake and pudding will immediately bring out your inner fat kid. They have a bunch of dank ass flavors to choose from, and I doubt there is a flavor combo that would disappoint. These guys are super professional, and they seem to be really down to earth genuine people, who really care about what they are doing. I dare say you can taste the love in every bite! What do you do when you're in the other "LA," thousands of miles away, and want to send a little somethin' special to someone that's in New Orleans for his birthday? May I add, the birthday that's hours away from when you start this search.. ha. Well, I personally try to google bakeries in the area, and then call each one to see if I can get a delivery of something yummy.. to NO results. They don't deliver in New Orleans, not on such a short notice, not unless it's a huge cake, they're just not open.....?? WHAT?!? I start panicking... As I dial Debbie Does Doberge's number, I am half way expecting them to say, "no we can't deliver our delicious mini-doberge cakes and/or unique-flavored cupcake sets to your poor yummi-treat-less recipient" AND THEEEEN.... Charles, the owner's sweetheart and the co-owner, picks up the phone. Not only does he take my order, makes it fresh and original at 6:30PST.. 8:30CST?, delivers it personally later that night, and even draws little crayon drawings on the box per my request (!!!) but he does so with a laugh and a huge smile that I can feel through the phone, as I scramble in my head for a funny message to put on the handwritten card inside the box because I wasn't expecting ALL that after the unfriendly treatment I got from the other bakeries! :)) ::happy, happy me:: The recipient LOVED it and said it was one of the most delicious confections he has had, and this is coming from a foodie that eats out every day and night that he is not stuck filming on set in the middle of nowhere (waaaay outside of New Orleans..) If I ever had to order anything in New Orleans that involves delishesness again, DDD would def have my first vote for both their exceptional customer service and the works of culinary art that they bake with such love! GO!!! EAT!!! ;) read more

I am currently sliding into a hyperglycemic coma from eating Debbie's cake so I will make this brief... Although I have not specifically ordered cake from this business, a sampling of the cakes was served to me at Toup's Meatery this afternoon for lunch. Toup's special cake was salted caramel peanut butter bacon doberge and we also ordered the plain chocolate. The glossy sheen coming off the special's icing mingled with the tiny specs of crispy pork induced feverish fork lunging abandon. The cake was so moist it stuck between the tines of the fork. If you pressed it with your palm is would almost drip off the plate. Three of my favorite flavors being peanut butter, pork, and chocolate I layered bites of chocolate on top of the special to enhancing the surfeit of sugary goodness. ...starting to tremble....losing consciousness...face covered in icing....mmmmmm read more
