    Medium Oxtail Platter w/Extra Gravy
    Nik K.

I had an intense craving for some Jamaican cuisine yesterday and many of my favorite places were closed (it was Monday). After a disappointing evening without satisfying my craving, I woke up this morning and began to search for a place that might be open today. I came across Deb's Jamaican Pot in Mount Holly, which isn't too far from me. So, I made a point to stop in for a visit. I called to make sure the establishment was open. I was greeted by a soothing voice. I placed a phone order for a medium oxtails platter (with extra gravy) with rice and peas, six jerk wings, and a beef patty. I drove to pick-up my order and found ample parking on the street. I walked into a nicely decorated restaurant that was warm and filled with island vibes. The woman at the register greeted me promptly. She confirmed my order and provided a price. I paid $23.00, which isn't bad for what I ordered. I left the establishment and proceeded to devour my beef patty (none of my beef patties ever make it home). The beef patty was warm, fresh, and tasted fantastic. It didn't last long bc I am greedy. I arrived home and cracked open my wings and oxtails. The jerk wings wasn't spicy at all. The jerk wings that I had tasted like regular oven baked chicken wings. I'm used to jerk chicken being really spicy or having a little kick. This jerk chicken did not. I proceeded to eat my oxtail, rice, peas and cabbage. I noticed the oxtails weren't in a brown gravy (sauce). Interesting because when I placed my phone order the woman asked if I wanted extra sauce. I have eaten oxtails without gravy (sauce) before and I wasn't a fan. Nevertheless, I decided to give the oxtails a try. They were ok. I didn't think the oxtails were seasoned nor did they have much flavor. I didn't taste any gravy at all. The rice and peas were decent and the cabbage tasted like cabbage. I could tell the cabbage was fresh, but it lacked any flavor too. I gave Deb's Jamaican Pot 3 stars for the beef patty and customer service. If I returned I would grab a plethora of beef patties and Jamaican kola. I could live on those two items forever.

Fried Plantain THAT ARE BURNT NOT CANDIED

Another Jamaican restaurant in town! I was ecstatic. Until I got my order, just two sides as a quick snack. Plantain and macaroni and cheese, very small order. I love plantains, but I have no idea what happened in the kitchen. My macaroni and cheese was everything with noodles except cheese, and the seasoning HAS LEFT THE KITCHEN. So I basically just wasted my money for a small order of noodles and burnt plantains. Here's a hint! Yuh nuh cook plantains eena aile an yuh definitely nuh need dat much aile tuh cook dem eeda Wul battam addi container did coated wid ah thin film ah aile. While at work, I realize I didn't eat lunch so I scrambled to my phone and jumped on Yelp to figure out something and I stumbled upon Deb's. I ordered 2 beef patties, stewed cabbage, rice & peas and plantains. Everything was good and I will definitely order again when I am at work!

    Curry chicken medium

This place has really delicious food. I got the medium curry chicken. Enough for 2 servings easily. It was delicious and not overly spicy. The rice and peas is also the best I've had in a long time. The cakes are prepackaged. The food is really good and I'll keep coming back for the entrees.

The Food is mediocre. Oxtails had no taste, the beef patties were flat. The workers have attitudes. It's depressing.

Ordered 4 deconstructed rotis: 2 chicken and potato, a goat and a jerk chicken. 3 with paratha root and 1 with buss up shut. All were super tasty-deep and (not too) spicy flavor, really good sized portions (it gave me 3 meals) and packed nicely. substitutes for the curried potatoes that typically go along with the meal are available. I would personally get the buss up shut variety of roti or opt for the wrapped version in the future the chickpea filling was quite messy due to my error of ripping it. A very satisfying meal nonetheless. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other offerings.

Just be mindful it's a fish and there are bones-- easy to see and pull out. My dish sides included rice and beans, cooked cabbage and fried plantains. Spectacular dinner.

I ordered beef ox tails which were always in a flavorful brown gravy over white rice with sweet plantains and sautéed cabbage with some mixed vegetables. Last night they were in a sauce that is best described as a sticky, gluey bbq sauce that I have never experienced there in the past. There was just a tiny amount of sautéed cabbage though I was grateful for it as a palate cleanser. One piece of sweet plantain, in all fairness, I did order the small versus a large order. The rice was unpleasant with that dark, sticky sauce already stirred into it so there was no escaping it. (Today I took an entire pint of leftover white rice from a previous oriental meal and stirred it into Norah's rice to make it at least edible though still not delicious like it used to be.) I am extremely disappointed Norah seems to have changed her beef oxtails brown gravy recipe. For me ... it completely changed my opinion about her beef oxtails. I miss how it used to taste.
