The restaurant is so beautiful that we saved money by not needing to bring in flowers to make it look wedding-ready. Multiple guests told us that the food was some of the best they'd ever had at a wedding. Cecile, the events manager, was incredibly responsive and detail-oriented, and she was happy to work with us in accommodating our guests' dietary restrictions and navigating the neighborhood noise restrictions. At the wedding itself, the staff were all warm and helpful and made things run smoothly. When I forgot my bridal bouquet, the staff rescued it and had it ready for my mother to pick up the next day. Our wedding was 75 people, and we had plenty of room to have everyone seated for the ceremony and dinner, plus space for a dance floor. We met with Cecile a few days before to walk through our plan, which she had clearly read through carefully, and she and her team were able to execute everything with no issues. In many ways, she acted like a day-of coordinator for us, which meant another big expense saved. It's a gorgeous space for an event with a great history, the food is delicious, and the staff are fantastic. What more can you want?

As my girls arrived to celebrate with me, I loved the oooohs and aaahs from them. The live jazz was the cherry on top. I think the band was called Buddy Boy and there was no cover charge. AMAZING!! We sat in a deep, plush booth in the dining room. Definitely took some major wriggling to get in and out from the center where I sat but they're upholstered beautifully with candle lit marble tables. Service was pretty good, certainly attentive and she was able to corral one of my more picky guest. But the food for all of us, really hit the mark. We had two with the Fried Chicken Dinner which came with greens, Mac and cheese and a small piece of cornbread. One had the ribs that were fall off the bone tender and she raved about the sauce. And I had the grilled oyster appetizer (sorry I missed the pic) and the Frogmore Stew. It was delicious. Flavorful broth, mussels, shrimp, crab, fish, potatoes and corn. Oh and two slices of crispy bread. So good yall. A good time was had. I highly recommend.

The kind of welcome that reminds you hospitality is still an art. The ambiance is chic, upscale, and intentional without ever feeling stiff. It is not too loud, allowing laughter and conversations to breathe naturally. They thoughtfully left space for guests without reservations, which shows they value people, not just bookings. Everyone was dressed beautifully, and the staff matched that same elevated professionalism. Clean. Polished. Intentional. Our server, Ashley, was exceptional. Knowledgeable. Present. Confident. She didn't just take orders. She guided an experience. The space is wheelchair accessible, and the outdoor courtyard is stunning. Photo worthy. Elegant. It instantly transported me to New Orleans. The aesthetic, the warmth, the spirit. It felt like Mama nem's table on a Sunday after church. Cousins laughing. Plates heavy. Love flowing. Culture present in every detail. Even the private event space is breathtaking. Weddings. Baby showers. Political donor events. Receptions. Community celebrations. I saw vision the moment I looked inside. And now... let's talk about the food. I had the smoked jerk turkey wings, slow cooked to perfection and served with Creole beans and rice and collard greens with smoked turkey. Let me be clear. This was not just food. This was memory. The seasoning was deep, layered, and soulful. The meat was tender, falling off the bone with ease. I fought the urge to bite the bones themselves just to stay in that moment a little longer. The mac and cheese deserves its own standing ovation. Made with a blend of four cheeses and baked into a rich, creamy cheese joy with perfection, it was rich, indulgent, and comforting in every bite. This is not a side. This is an experience. The freshly baked skillet cornbread, served with Steen's cane syrup and honey butter, was warm, soft, and balanced between sweet and savory. It was the kind of cornbread you slow down for. The kind you remember. My Nina mocktail was refreshing, sweet, and layered. Every sip revealed something new. A drink meant to be savored, not rushed. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, drizzled with hot honey and served alongside collards with smoked turkey and sweet potato gratin. I stole a wing, of course. Moist. Flavorful. Perfectly crisp. The kind of bite that makes you close your eyes and say "mmmm" without realizing it. This is not just a restaurant. It is culture. It is comfort. It is community. Meeting the general manager felt like reconnecting with family you didn't know you missed. From the first hello at the door to the final goodbye, I felt seen, welcomed, and valued. Even the bathrooms and hallways are selfie worthy. Every detail is intentional. This is where you bring your spouse. Your girls. Your sorors. Your frat brothers. Your business partners. Your family. Your whole community. We drove six hours to experience South Jazz Kitchen, and I would do it again next week without hesitation. I am sending everyone I know. And when they say "Shaleah sent me"... just know that's me, y'all. That's me. Yelp Elites, RUN. Amazing food. Amazing culture. Amazing establishment.

I've gone to the bar on multiple occasions to get just cornbread and an entree to go as well as when I have had reservations to dine in, I've seen people come in, just go to the bar and order take out. I'm really disappointed at this experience and it seems like every time I go to South, It's a different experience and a different enforcement of rules.

The drinks were potent and delicious. We had the chicken picnic box, turkey wings, crab cakes, salmon, Mac and cheese, greens, Brussels sprouts and the baked apple dessert. Everything was SO GOOD! The waitress (Shay) was friendly and honest and every suggestion was on point. The ambiance and decor is so beautiful and inspiring, which added to the overall experience. I can see myself driving from NY for the day just to eat here. But wait...I also found out that this owner has 4 other restaurants to experience and I will try them all over the next few months.

The place itself is pretty clean, the darker decor a guess provides a more grown/upscale like vibe and atmosphere, and seems to be kept pretty clean. The bartender who was our server (boyfriend prefers to sit at the bar) was friendly and attentive in this service to us. Now to the most important part - the eats.... So we really enjoyed all the food we had. The Peri Peri wings were cooked pretty perfectly with a crisp outside but tender and juicy inside. We liked the concept of the Cheese steak Beignets as they did marry those two dishes well. The Mac and Cheese was doing what it's supposed to - cheesy, gooey and tasty. He wasn't the biggest fan of the tacos - think just wasn't his thing - but I liked it and that it was a different take wit the tortilla being a fried tomato. Drinks were good - the first one I ordered was ok, but my second one was exactly what I wanted! We plan to come back again for brunch and to try other dinner menu options.

Simply put, the food was OK,…read morebut the presentation and state of the take out grocery bag (is this a restaurant or fast food joint?) was horrendous. It took almost an hour for them to make my food (and I'm assuming other orders as my Dasher made 2 other stops and provided updates on the wait time). By the time I received my food it was in a grocery bag that was soaked inside due to condensation. I ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich and the cheesesteak eggrolls. The eggrolls came in a proper takeout container and tasted OK, though I should've removed the bed of lettuce before saving them for later. After sitting for a while, the eggrolls absorbed the flavors of the lettuce and became bitter. It was not pleasant. The chicken sandwich came wrapped similar to what's expected from Burger King and was messy to eat, but it was better than I thought it would be. The hot honey didn't provide any heat, but the chicken was so crunchy around the edges. Last, the fries weren't great as they were placed in a paper envelope (also similar to what Burger King provides in a to-go bag) that was completely soaked. They were soft, but cooled for too long to hold any flavor. As mentioned it was an OK meal, but I wouldn't recommend it. Dining in the restaurant would likely provide a better experience.

We had a nice meal, but it was not a great meal. The server was neutral and not overly friendly or informative. The room (lower level) was pretty noisy and we had trouble talking to each other. I ordered the gumbo. The server said it was not too hot but had a little kick. Heat is objective. I can handle a few splashes of hot sauce as reference. The gumbo was way too hot for me to eat. I only finished half. It was really good, but did not need that much heat. At no time did anyone ask if we were enjoying our meals (our server never checked in, except for dessert). The person clearing our dishes just smiled when I told him the dish was way too hot to eat. We ordered a peach cobbler for dessert. It was absolutely not a cobbler; it was more like a bread pudding. Since we only took a bite, we did not refuse when the server offered us a refund.
